Advance Carpenter Ant Bait

It is highly recommended to also use Maxforce Carpenter Ant Gel which is a sugar bait.  You should always give ants a choice as they may be in the mood for either a protein (granule) or a sugar (gel) bait.

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is specially formulated to kill carpenter ants. Carpenter Ant Bait can be used indoors and outdoors to control the ant population. This carpenter ant bait formulation provides for the carpenter ant's dietary needs while using the delayed-action insecticide Abamectin. This product works well when used with a gel bait such as Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel.

How Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Works

ADVANCE Carpenter Ant Bait is a ready-to-use product for use in controlling numerous ants both indoors and outdoors. This bait formulation combines a mixture of foods and the delayed action insecticide, Abamectin. This insecticide acts to reduce the population of worker ants and can cause an immediate halt in egg production resulting in colony elimination. Avoid use of other insecticides or sprays on or near Advance.

Abamectin B1 is a GABA inhibitor that interferes with the normal functioning of an insect's nervous system and begins affecting ant populations within 24 hours. This type of insecticide allows the ants time to take the bait back to the nest where it is distributed throughout the colony. Reproduction of the colony halts once the queens have been eliminated and the workers, who carried the bait, perish.

Target Pests

Carpenter Ants

PESTS CONTROLLED WITH ADVANCE CARPENTER ANT BAIT: Carpenter Ants and many common varieties of household ants such as Acrobat, Argentine, Bigheaded, Crazy, Field, Fire, Harvester, Lasius, Little Black, Pavement, Pharaoh, Odorous House, and Thief Ants

Target Uses

Use Advance Carpenter Ant Bait for many common household ants seeking protein. Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is specially formulated to kill carpenter ants. Advance can be used indoors and outdoors to control the ant population. This carpenter ant bait formulation provides for the carpenter ant's protein dietary needs while using the delayed-action insecticide Abamectin. This product works well when used in combination with a bait gel such as Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel. (These two baits may be purchased together in our Carpenter Ant Kit #1.) The two baits also can be used side-by-side in convenient and clear bait plate stations.

Baits are also a great tool in sensitive situations where spraying is not acceptable. Baits have extremely low toxicity to people and pets, and they can be applied discreetly.

ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Abamectin 0.011%

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Application Instructions

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait can be used outdoors as a broadcast application around and close to the perimeter of the structure (8oz. per 1/2 acre), or on the interior inside wall voids or in areas where ants forage. Indoors, use up to 1.5 oz. of product in heavily traveled sites. Do not use in areas that have been treated with insecticides or sprays. This will cause the bait to be unattractive to the ants. Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is best applied in small piles where ant activity is found.

Carpenter Ants are most active at night and tend to start trailing about 30 minutes before sunset. If activity is difficult to find, try looking around the structure about 1 hour before sunrise. Monitor bait placements closely and reapply as needed until no more ant activity is seen. How much product is needed will depend on colony size. Always read the product label.

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait can also be used in stations such as bait plate stations to protect from rain or dust and for easy placement and clean-up. Bait plate stations also protect bait from pets or children.

Yield will vary greatly with user and application needs. An 8 oz. container covers ½ acre for broadcast applications, treats around approximately 4 mounds, or treats 5-15 sites indoors. A 2 lb. container covers 2 acres for broadcast application, treats around approximately 16 mounds, or treats 20-60 site indoors.

Standard Application rates for Advance Carpenter Ant Bait:

*8 oz. per ½ acre – Broadcast application (1 lb./ acre)

*1 oz. per visible trail outdoors

*1.5-3.0 oz. per colony outdoors

*Up to 1.5 oz. per indoor crack, crevice, or void

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is for use in the following areas:

In and around Homes, Residential Areas, Commercial and Other Structures, Non Food/Feed Areas of Commercial Buildings, Warehouses, Hotels, Food Storage Areas, Inedible Product Areas of Meat Packing Plants, Motels, Schools, Supermarkets, and Non-Occupied Patient Areas of Hospitals and Nursing Homes. Golf Courses, Parks, Lawns, and Turf

Indoors-

Locate ant activity. Follow ants back to voids. Apply product to cracks and crevices or voids where ants are active. In heavily traveled sites, use up to 1.5 ounces of product. Use a B&G Bulb Duster or other appropriate application device to place the product into crevices or voids. Repeat application as necessary. Do not use in the food/feed areas of food/feed handling establishments, restaurants or other areas where food is commercially prepared or processed. Do not use in serving areas while food is exposed or facility is in operation. Serving areas are defined as those areas where prepared foods are served such as dining rooms but excluding areas where foods may be prepared or held. Non-food areas are defined as areas such as garbage rooms, lavatories, floor drains (to sewers), entries and vestibules, offices, locker rooms, machine rooms, boiler rooms, garages, mop closets and storage (after canning or bottling). When applying this product in the home, all food processing surfaces and utensils should be covered during treatment or thoroughly washed before use. Exposed food should be covered or removed.

If a residual spray is being use, keep sprays low and baits up high. Do not spray liquid or aerosol insecticides on top of bait applications.

Outdoors-

BROADCAST APPLICATION: Use this product at a rate of 1 lb. per acre. Apply the product as uniformly as possible. Repeat application as necessary.

AROUND STRUCTURES: Lightly sprinkle the product evenly in a band approximately 1 - 2 feet wide around the foundation of the building. Treat visible trails with approximately 1 ounce of product. Repeat application as necessary.

INDIVIDUAL COLONY TREATMENT: Use 1.5 to 3 ounces of product per colony. Repeat application as necessary.

If using residual sprays, do not spray on top of bait applications or use bait in areas where sprays have been applied.

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Features

*Size and bait matrix are specifically formulated for Carpenter Ants.

*Attractive to a wide variety of protein feeding ants.

*Extremely low toxicity to people and pets.

*Can be used indoors and outdoors.

Extra Tips

*Do not use in areas that have been treated with sprays or residual insecticides.

*Use in conjunction with a sweet bait for best results.

*Store and apply out of wet areas. Bait may spoil more quickly or be washed away in rain.

*Use within one year of purchase for best results.

*Can be used in convenient and clear bait plate stations for easy monitoring and clean-up. This is especially helpful near food-handling areas, such as in kitchens.

*Do not disturb the natural behavior of trailing ants or foraging ants. Placements should be made near the ants, but not on them or in the middle of the trail. By disrupting their normal behavior, bait avoidance may occur.

*Monitor bait placements closely and reapply as needed until ant activity ceases. Colony size will vary, so many repeat treatments may be needed to eradicate a colony.

*Not sure if you have carpenter ants or termites? Read our article Difference Between Termites and Carpenter Ants or watch our video, Termites vs. Ants.

By Jonathan in Bellevue, WA on 07/13/2009

This is a follow-up to my last review, and an updated rating for Advance Carpenter Ant Bait. The running tally is: • 1,500+ dead or dying ants sucked up in the dirt devil • 6 queens (I can't believe I found 6). Scary. Glad I'm only renting. The activity is down to a minimum, and clearly their days are numbered since the live ones are moving very slow. (The toxins are taking effect) *evil laugh*. Each morning I find tiny ant graveyards in corners of the house that I had vacuumed clean the night before, and their numbers are decreasing. Good bye, carpenter ants. You will not be missed. If there's an ant afterlife, I hope it is an eternity closely resembling the final moments of your lives, twitching and convulsing uncontrollably, writhing in perceived pain. Advance: When you absolutely, positively have to kill every ant in the room. Accept no substitutes.

5 of 5 stars  Advance Carpenter Ant Bait
By Confidential in Marlton, NJ on 05/08/2010

I have been doing pest control for over 25 years now, even owned a few exterminating companies myself. If there is one bait that I am 100% confident in using for Carp. Ants, it is the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait. I have used this product for a number of years now and the insects acceptance of this formula is amazing. Almost as soon as I distribute it, I see the Carp. ants picking it up and carrying it right back to their nest! The kill effect is also great, I tell my customers give it 4-7 days and no more ants.................and I've never had to go back to retreat any yet! I am also a first time buyer of products at DoMyOwnPestControl and was very very happy with the price and the fast no cost delivery. And NO! They didn't pay me to say that! Now I found a place that I can rely on for the best products, good pricing and fast delivery!

3 of 5 stars  Carpenter Ant Bait
By Pete in Arlington, TX on 08/25/2010

Howdy, This was my second container of the Advance Ant Bait. The product arrive on time and in good order. My colony of carpenter ants took the Advance Bait for about two weeks and then totally ignored the bait. They would walk over or around and not pick up any bait. I did notice a reduction in ant activity of about 50% over the months of June and July while I kept the bait available for the ants. Thinking I had a "stale" batch of bait I decided to try a new container. No luck with the new container of bait I got in August. I gave up on the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait and tried the Max Force Gel Bait for carpenter ants. Once I got the colony to take the Gel Bait I had a 100% kill in two days.

    By Becky on 07/02/2008

All I have to say after my first application of Advance Carpenter Ant Bait is wow! The ants immediately scurried off with the bait down their little ant holes. The next day, about 18 hours later, they were up on the surface staggering around and dead! I hope all of their nasty babies enjoyed the feast too. Thanks!

5 of 5 stars  Saw a reduction in 4-5 days
    By Carrie on 06/17/2008

We had carpenter ants in the house and in our old fencing. I put some Advance Carpenter Ant Bait out and they went crazy carrying it back to the nest. Saw a reduction in ants in about 4-5 days. I also recommend the Talstar professional insecticide spray to use on your yard. It does not seem to deter the ants from the bait, like some other sprays.

It Works ! Finally, after two years of fighting ants, they are GONE. I live in Irvine, CA. Our Woodbridge community is considered to be a giant anthill. Professionals retained by the association could not win. I WON. Use this with the associated product to fight with protein and sugar components and you will win too...

  • 5 of 5 stars  Worked GREAT!
By Al in California, Md on 08/01/2016

I had a large colony of carpenter ants living in a very large and old Yoshino Cherry tree. The tree had holes and piles of saw dust at the base and always had ants crawling on it. I put a few small piles of Advance Carpenter Ant Bait at the most active spots around the tree. At first a few ants just walked over the bait but a few others took the bait up into the hole. Early morning and late night I saw normal activity. Then a few days passed and one morning my tree was crawling with ants, more then I ever saw on and around it. They were running in circles and falling off the tree obviously affected by the bait. By that evening the colony was decimated. For the next few days I'd see 4 or 5 ants on the tree. Now 2 weeks later and no sign of activity. I'd say this stuff worked for me. After a few years of spraying this tree trying to control the ants I wish I had found this stuff sooner.

A lot of carpenter ants around our exterior garage door. Looked at night to be sure and locate the nest. Sprinkled the bait around the nest in about 6 foot perimeter as well as any trails. each night we went out and looked and saw less and less ants and a lot of dead ants. Followed up with another application after rain and a week or so. Last check have not seen any ants. Hopefully this continues as it seems to be working!

QWhen is the best time to begin a program to eliminate carpenter ants using MaxForce Carpenter Gel Bait and Advance Carpenter Granular Bait?

AAnytime you see carpenter ants around the home, even one, is a good time to apply the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait around your home to discourage entry inside your house.  Early spring is when carpenter ants start to become active and are looking for food since they have been overwintering for a while.  So now (March) is actually a perfect time for applying the bait. We offer the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules and the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel in our Carpenter Ant Kit #1 and Carpenter Ant Kit #2.

QWhen placed outdoors, will the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait attract or harm pets?

A

The Advance Carpenter Ant Bait, when applied correctly will not harm children or pets. Pets can be attracted to the granules but if they are applied correctly the pets should not be able to eat enough of them for it to be harmful.  You are supposed to broadcast this product outside meaning you will be placing very small amounts in grass, mulch, etc.  A pet would have to consume a large quantity of this product, meaning they would have to get into the container and consume a large amount to get sick.  As with any cleaning product or otherwise, you should always keep the container out of reach of children and pets.

QHow do I know if the Advance Ant Granules are working?
We applied Advance granule three days ago and the first day ants just pick them up and carry back to the nest like crazy. But since yesterday they seem to have totally lost interest in it. They crawl right past the granules without picking them up. We did see some dead ants but there seem to be more ants coming out. Is it not working? Why does it lose its appeal?

ASeeing the dead ants means that the Advance Carpenter Ant granules are doing their job. Ants however  change their nutritional needs frequently This means that one day they may only forage for proteins, like the granules you put out and another day they may forage for carbohydrates like bait gels or liquids. We recommend leaving the granules in place and allow the ants to continue their natural foraging. You may also consider using an ant bait gel like the Maxforce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel in combination with the Advance Granules.

QAre Advance Carpenter ant granules safe to use near a water supply ?

AAdvance Carpenter Ant Bait granules are safe to use as long as the bait granules cannot actually roll into the water source. The bait will not leach through the soil to contaminate water. If you do have a situation where the bait could roll into a water source you should place the bait into an ant bait station such as the Ant No More Ant Bait Stations.

QIs it too cold to use Advance Carpenter Ant Bait around the perimeter of my home?
I live in Houston, TX. Outside temperatures are now mid 50's at night and 60-70F in the day time. Is it too cold to use Advance around the perimeter of my home?

A

Not at all.  Any temperature is good to use the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait.  As long as there are ants around the bait will work, despite the temperature.  The only time you would not want to apply it is if it is raining or going to rain within 24 hours.  This product is best applied when you are going to have a few days of dry weather.

QHow do I treat for carpenter ants in the root of an oak tree?
They appear to come out of the ground in one area.

A

For treating carpenter ants around/in trees, you can use a bait such as the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait around the base of the tree as well as where the roots/branches meet in small piles. †The Carpenter Ants will eat the bait and take it back to their nest. †They will then feed the bait to the queen and the other colony members, and in turn the product will kill all of the ants in the colony. †This is important because once the colony is eliminated, you will not have to battle them again. †Another option is a spray product called Dominion 2L which will work similar to a bait, but they just have to walk across the treated area and they pick it up and transfer to others in the colony. †It can be sprayed up to breast height on the tree or by injecting into the part of the tree that is infested following the instructions on the product label.

QWould it be better to broadcast or use bait stations with the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait?

A

You can get effective control either way you use the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait;†however using it in a bait station will allow the product to hold up longer outdoors and reduce wasted product from the moisture and weather that would affect it over time during a broadcast application.†

QDoes Advance Carpenter Ant Bait product lose effectiveness over time?
This worked well a few years ago but now the carpenter ants just ignore it. I'm using the same bottle I purchased 3 years ago. Do I need a new, unopened bottle of the stuff or have the ants just wised up?

A

Advance Carpenter Ant Bait has a shelf life of approx. 2 years after opening. You may need fresh bait.

QIf I can smell this bait, should I be worried too much has been applied and I'm breathing in poison?
We hired a pest control company when we saw ants in our home. The "professional" brought this container, held it out to me and told me to smell it before he applied it in our attic. That was 10 days ago. Everyday, the part of the house directly under the attic smells worse and worse. It is the same fishy smell from the container of Advance bait he put into our attic. Why could the smell be getting worse? Did he use too much if we can smell it days later? Are the granules now settling into the insulation instead of laying on top allowing us to smell it better? Most importantly, is this dangerous to us or to our 5 month old baby? I'm just not sure whether the fact that we can smell this means we are breathing in poison.

ASince we do not make the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules, we would recommend contacting the manufacturer Whitmire Micro-Gen directly for your situation. They can be reached at 1-800-777-8570.

QHow soon can a person work in an area where Advance Carpenter Ant Bait has been used?
Have carpenter ant problem. Sprinkled Advance ant bait along a portion of my house that has rotted wood. Will replace wood board in a week or two. Will any protective measures be needed? Will it be OK to work unprotected in the area where the bait was used or should the area be covered or raked before anyone ventures in to replace the rotted wood board?

AAdvance Carpenter Ant Bait is safe to be used in areas where adults work and live. However, you want to be sure to keep it out of reach of children and pets. There is no re-entry waiting period after using Advance Carpenter Ant Bait.

QAdvance Ant Bait placed in shed on paper, next morning bait gone, repeated 3 times same thing.
I have a carpenter ant problem as well as other nuisance ants and insects . I put Advance Ant bait near a carpenter ant colony at a rotten window sill. The bait appears to have worked well at this location. However, for the shed issue listed above, did ants eat the bait or am I feeding other insects? Will the Advance Ant bait kill roaches and other insects? Interestingly, the paper was partially eaten also.

AIt may be that you have a rodent that was attracted to Advance Carpenter Ant bait food scent. We know that this bait is only formulated for ant treatment and may not pose harm to other pest.

QDo you offer a larger size of Advance Carpenter Ant Bait?
I purchased the 8oz. bottle and it seems to be working, but I'm going to need a lot more than 2lbs. to get rid of these things, they are literally coming out of the wood work. Our property adjoins some abandoned property and the ants are coming from there and moving onto ours. I also have the liquid honeydew stations set-up in the shaded locations and they are bone dry every few days. Do you offer a larger size of this product?
