    How to take care of termites in the attic?
    After installing some of these stations in ground, it was observed that there is termite activity in attic in other end of house. Ground area under that part of attic is all concrete (driveway and sidewalk). If I place some of these stations in attic will it work, or it works when installed in ground only?
    A
    The advance termite bait station will not work above ground.  It is meant for and will only work when installed into the ground as the instructions recommend.  For treating termites in an attic space, Bora-Care is the go to product.  Bora-Care is a wood treatment product that you can apply directly on the wood in the attic.  Bora-Care can be applied to any wood that is not painted, stained, or sealed.  Bora-Care will penetrate directly into the wood and kill the termites in the wood and also protect it long term.  Your only option in an attic space is to treat the termites directly.

    Can I replace the wood in the station if termites are present?
    I have seen some activity in one of my stations and can see mud tubes and termites in the station. The wood is black and molded looking. Can I/should I change this or just install the bait and leave the wood be?

    If there are termites in the station and you have replaced the monitoring cartridge with the bait cartridge, you should not replace the wood yet.  The termites are not interested in the wood right now, they are most likely trying to get to the cellulose in the bait cartridge.  If you replace the wood you could alarm the termite colony and cause them to leave the station.  Wait until activity has ceased from them eating the bait cartridge, and then replace the wood.

    Each individual Adavance Station does come loaded with the Wood TMB and the Termite Inspect Cartridge TIC.

    You should clean out all of the Advance Termite Bait Stations completely and replace the wood base at least every 12 months, or once a year.  Depending on where you live and the climate and amount of rain, you may need to replace the wood base more often.  If the wood bases become very soggy and moldy then you should replace them.

    The bait in my Advance Termite system from 3 months ago seems to have not been touched - Do I leave it there?
    Found activity in view cartridge three months ago. Looked in bait cartridge the other day and it looked like it had not been touched in the 3 months since. No termites to be found. Do I just leave the bait as it is or should I alter the bait or wood or move the monitor? What could have spooked off the termites? P.S. I like ordering from your company. The orders are fast and you have a great selection of products.

    Thank you for your comments about our company and our fast shipping.  There are many reasons why termites may have left the station.  A natural predator, like an ant colony, could have chased them off.  A drastic weather change could have an affect on the colony, or any number of other reasons.  This is common.  Of course, it could be that the colony was small and they ate enough bait to kill the colony or kill enough of them that they ceased feeding.  Unfortunately we don't know for sure the reason.  Either way, your plan of action now is the same no matter what happened.  Anytime you had termites in a station and placed the bait cartridge in the station, you should remove the bait once the termite activity is gone and go back to the monitoring cartridge.  It is usually best to replace the wood and start over in that station with a new monitoring cartridge.

    How do I monitor the Advance Termite Bait Stations for termite activity?
    We have a pest control company that installed, I believe, the Advance Termite Bait Station system. It has a grey cylinder with a black top. We are thinking of not renewing our yearly contract of them checking the systems quarterly. First, how do I open the black top to access the unit. Second, how do I analyze what I see to know whether or not there is activity? Does the bait have to be replaced at various intervals? Also, if there is activity what do we do then?

    The lid on the Advance Termite Bait Station is removed with a Spider Access Tool. Please look at pictures 12 and 13 on page 4 of the Advance Termite Bait Station Guide. These pictures illustrate what it looks like when termites have started invading the bait station. Once an infestation has been identified, the plastic inspection cartridge would need to be changed to an Advance Termite Bait Cartridge. Both the wood monitoring base and the plastic inspection cartridge should be changed every 12 months and the wood should be changed more often if it becomes very soggy or moldy. Please watch our Advance Termite Bait Station video for some great tips for using the Advance Termite Bait Station System.

    What does it mean if some old Advance Termite Bait Stations are empty?
    A

    If the Inspection Cartridge in the Advance Termite Bait Station is empty upon inspection that means that termites have eaten the entire contents of the cartridge and it was not monitored frequently enough to catch the activity and replace with a bait cartridge to kill them off.  The stations should be checked quarterly for any activity.

    I would like to know in your opinion, which of these bait systems is better? I would like to get one, but am not sure which would be the better purchase.

    Can I use a shovel to dig holes and install bait stations?
    I am using a professional service with bait stations. they may have priced themselves out. digging out the area for new stations with a shovel may not be the best technical style

    You would not want to use a shovel when applying an Advance Termite Bait Station. To dig holes for the stations, use a 2 ¾ in. hand or electric auger or post hole digger.

    Do I need to backfill the hole for an Advance bait station with dirt?
    The hole I made is at most 4.5" in diameter, so it is a little larger than the bait station. Do I need to fill in dirt around the bait station?

    Yes, you will back fill dirt around the sides of the stations but leave a little bit of a gap at the bottom of the station so that the bottom of it is not sitting flush on the dirt.

    Do the monitoring stations contain pesticides?
    I would like to monitor my house for termite activity but only treat with pesticides if there is actually a problem. I have two concerns: 1. We want to attract beneficial fauna like bees and frogs to the yard and these are very sensitive to chemicals. 2. We have edible plants around the house and I don't want these chemicals to get in our food. Of course if we had termites, the chemicals are better than termites, but as treatment for a potentially non-existent problem it seems a little harsh.

    The monitoring stations only contact wood and a cellulose cartridge. The pesticides are only put into the stations if you find activity.

    What would I need for yearly replacement of the termite bait stations?
    I have bait traps already around my property. What do I need to do for the year? This is the first time I'm replacing bait traps, had a pro do it for years.

    You would need the wooden Advance Termite Base and the Advance Termite Inspection Cartridge. It is important to make sure you have the Advance Termite Bait Station System before ordering these refills as there are many different brands of systems and parts from one brand will not fit stations of another brand.

    How do I clean the Advance Termite Bait Station from dirt?
    In checking the baits and wood it looks like that dirt and roots got into the bait. It is narrow and deep to clean it all up. What is the easy way to clean it. I saw a picture of an auger of 2.5" that can be good, but I do not see it in your products. Any advice??

    You should clean out all of the Advance Termite Bait Stations completely and replace the wood base at least every 12 months, or once a year.  Depending on where you live and the climate and amount of rain, you may need to replace the wood base more often.  If the wood bases become very soggy and moldy then you should replace them. It sounds like the bait may need to be replaced all together and the station wiped out. We are not aware of a specific product used for this.

    We would recommend Termite Bait Stations for subterranean termite prevention. Please watch our Advance Termite Bait Station video for some great tips for using the Advance Termite Bait Station System. Keep in mind that you need to use stations all the way around the structure to protect it.

    How do I replace termite bait cartridges in the Advance termite Bait Station?
    A
    We recommend you use the Advance Spider tool and twist the black cap off of the station. If you do not have one, you can use a large flat head screw driver placed behind the small black tab on the cap and twist the cap until both tabs are released and the cap can be removed. Once the cap is off, you can use either a small screw driver or a pair of needle nose pliers to lift the old cartridge out. Then you simply set the new cartridge in the station and put the cap back on.

    I want to do my own termite control but only if I will save money.
    I now pay $30 a month for 6 Advance monitors, checked quarterly, and free service if termites are found. I see on your website the monitors for $17.95, a "spider" for $25, gloves for $12.95, 5 (not 6) inspection cartridges for $19.50, and 6 bait cartridges for $96.94. Would I need anything else? If the bait cartridges last just 6 months, I would LOSE MONEY by doing the work myself. Is this correct? Please comment.

    The Advance Termite bait stations should be replaced every year. If you already have the grey station, the only things you will need to buy would be the Advance Termite Monitoring Bases, which come in a pack of 5 and Advance Termite Inspection Cartridges (packs of 5 as well). The Advance Bait Cartridges last for 90 days and are only used if there is termite activity present. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Slugs in bait stations
    installed new stations in april of last year. at 3 month inspection slugs had invaded all of the bait stations(not the cartidges. since these were new stations i don't understand the not properly maintained explanation from the same question answered on 5.6.13. I just checked station 1/21/15. Most now are free of slugs (winter). Do slugs mess up the monitoring. Should i do something the next time I check them? or surround the stations with diatomaceous earth or some other method of control

    We do not recommend to apply an insecticide around the bait stations. Slugs can normally enter under the soil cover. If the bait stations are not maintained an over abundance of slugs can enter. We recommend to clean out the station and rectify the gap under the soil cover.

    Only the Advance Termite Professional kits come with a spider tool included. Individual stations and boxes of 10 stations do not come with the tool. Sorry for any inconvenience!

    I wonder if the 10 Temite Baiting Station sufficient enough to kill all termites at my house?
    I discovered termites eating the wood floor. I saw Orkin and Terminix using hammer drill to make holes on concrete porch and pour termite poison inside.

    The Advance Termite Baiting System woud not be the appropriate product to apply soley for the termites if they are inside the structure. They are great for monitoring activity but if you have activity inside, you will want to treat outside up against the foundation with a liquid termiticide such as Termidor SC. You can spot treat the interior voids with the Termidor Foam. Bora-Care can be applied to the floor (raw, natural wood only).
