Advion Fire Ant Bait

Why settle for partial control when you can control the entire colony? Advion Fire Ant Bait controls the entire colony of fire ants, pavement ants, or big-headed ants in just 24 to 74 hours. In addition, Advion is the ideal choice for broadcast applications or for treating fire ant mounds directly.

Up to 4 applications of Advion Fire Ant Bait may be applied per year. These are generally applied at 12 to 16 week intervals. However, rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of Advion Fire Ant Bait and a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of control.

4 of 5 stars  Advion Fire Ant Bait
By Bridget in Bidwell, OH on 08/02/2010

We used this for the first time on our home in Florida. When we arrived there were several new areas of infestation. We checked the weather forecast to avoid rain and using a hand spreader treated the entire yard. It was immediate that the ants starting taking the small pieces into their home. Ants were gone overnight. Three days later we had a heavy rain (usually we would have several new hills after a rain) and we only noticed one new hill on the periphery of our treatment area. No new areas have occurred yet and it has been almost a month.

5 of 5 stars  Advion Fire Ant Bait
By Daniel in North Port Florida on 07/07/2011

I recently moved into a new house in southwest Florida. I immediately noticed numerous fire ant hills all around my yard and house. I had fire ant hills near one side of the house and the colony was so large that even my grass was not growing in that are because all of the mounds. Tired of being bit and my yard looking horrible I invested in Advion Fire Ant Bait through DoMyOWnPestControl.com. I received the product and followed its directions. Sounds too good to be true but I noticed results within one day. After about a week I noticed one active mound and I applied a little more Advion in that area. I am now in my opinion fire ant free in my yard. I recently mowed my yard with my push mower and anybody that push mows their grass pretty much sees their whole lawn! I am very pleased to have my yard back.

Very fast shipping. Applied the product according to directions and within 3-4 days ants were gone. I have 2.5 acre yard and had a very heavy infestation of fire ants, other products seemed only to make the mounds move a few feet. Great product

I was very skeptical at first after reading the claims for this product, but my ant problem was growing bigger and I had to do something.  To make a long story short, this is one fire ant bait that actually works. I'm very pleased.

5 of 5 stars  This stuff is great
By Derek in Dallas, TX on 08/17/2014

I read the reviews and thought I would give this product a try. I used to use the white powdery crap in the brown container with the yellow lid that you can buy at the big home center stores. You'd find lots of dead ants about half an hour after you sprinkled it on the mound, but there would always be another mound pop back up in the same general area a few weeks later. It seemed to just make them move to a new spot and build another mound. Since we moved into our house about 5 years ago, there has always been a fire ant mound by the lid to the septic tank, and another one around the edge of the concrete on our back patio. I'd sprinkle the white powdery crap on them and they would go away for a bit, then there would be a new mound a few feet away. I purchased some Advion bait this past spring and sprinkled it around these mounds without disturbing them like the directions say, and plenty of others that I found around our 1 acre lot. The mounds are all gone now and have not popped back up in the same general area. This stuff works great and I recommend it to others.

We've ordered this product for 3 years from this seller, and always receive it super fast. We hate that we have to buy this large bag now (we preferred a a smaller amount to maintain freshness) but the Advion is the BEST to control fire ants! We broadcast it 3 times per year and have basically eradicated ants from our large lawn.

This product is the best I've found that actually controls fire ants. I've tried many other products but all they seem to do is move them to another location.

This is the best bait i have ever used and is very effective. In my opinion the product goes a long way and is not as expensive to use as other baits in the long run. Ants quickly take the bait and seem mound seems to disappear.

This product works very well if applied as recommended. I've found a second application is necessary on well-established mounds, but persistence succeeds!

Since applying the bait I have noticed that the ants move from one area to an other. I have also noticed that the mounds have been smaller. I would say that I am pleased for now and hope to get rid of them totally soon.

4 of 5 stars  Great Product
By Emerson in Lehigh Acres Florida on 05/21/2012

I have been using advion fire-ant killer for three years now with no regrets. Before being told about it I would end up every month buying different products that just did not work. The first time I used advion two days later I saw results, NO more fire-ants and only after six months one small mound appeared. That first jar lasted me about 18 months and that's with neighbors on either side that does not use anything.

Bought and used the Advion Fire Ant Bait on individual hills. 2 days later had not seen any results and was wondering what the heck? 2 days after that did not see any ants and after the next rain the hill caved in which is a good sign. They did not just move either and it only took a little bit scattered around the hill itself. I would definitly recommend this product even though it is a bit on the spendy side.

By Rmacler in Canyon Lake, TX on 04/13/2011

Did not work at all for me. Live in south central TX. Spread it near where the ant trails were as well as around mounds, and the ants completely ignored it. It has been three weeks and I have used up most of the jar and the fire ants are still happily infesting my yard. Very disappointed with the price and lack of results.

QHow long before it is safe to let my dogs back in the yard after Advion application?
A friend in the profession told me that Advion is the only product that works. Just moved to Texas, and am unfamiliar with fire ants. Brand new build, 5000sqft, infestation was in my son's room on the first floor. I had a professional service do the perimeter and the inside of my home. I would like to treat my entire yard, but after reading the label and MSDS sheet, I have concern for my son and my two small dogs. Thank you for any assistance on my question, and I'm open to any hints on how best to apply!

AWhen you apply the product properly in a broadcast application you only have to keep the pets and children out of the area during the application. Once the product is broadcast, only a very minute amount will be available (and a child or dog would be very hard pressed to even find that amount in a broadcast application) which would not be enough to harm your dogs or child. The MSDS also says that the product is not likely to be hazardous if inhaled, swallowed or if comes into contact with skin.
"IF INHALED: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous by inhalation.
Consult a physician if necessary.
IF ON SKIN OR CLOTHING: No specific intervention is
indicated as the compound is not likely to be hazardous to
the skin. Consult a physician if necessary.
IF IN EYES: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous to the eyes. Consult
a physician if necessary.
IF SWALLOWED: No specific intervention is indicated as the
compound is not likely to be hazardous by ingestion.
Consult a physician if necessary"

QDo you need a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait?
Do we need to use a broadcast spreader to apply the Advion Fire Ant Bait, or can we just sprinkle it on/around the mounds? Affordability of a spreader is our main issue with purchasing one. We do have a fertilizer/weedandfeed spreader, can we use that to apply the Advion Fire Ant Bait?

AYou do not have to have a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait though it can make the application a bit easier for you. You can simply just sprinkle the bait around (not on) the mounds as directed on the product label. As long as the spreader you have can be calibrated to spread the small amount needed per acre you could use it.

QAs the recommended quantity is 1.5 pounds per acre, what should I mix it with for bulk?
I am considering Advion as a solution for my horse pasture. As the recommended quantity is 1.5 pounds per acre, what should I mix it with for bulk?

A

Advion fire ant bait cannot be used in a horse pasture that has grazing horses. We recommend Extinguish Fire Ant Bait for horse pastures. According to the product label:Apply EXTINGUISH to infested areas at the rate of 1 to 1.5 pounds of product per acre (3.5 tablespoons/1000 ft²) using suitable application equipment. Backpack, hand, or  motorized mechanical equipment may be used. No withdrawal or grazing restrictions are necessary on treated areas. Extinguish is not mixed with any other product, it is simply spread over the property with a spreader.

QIs there an effective product for annual application to stop fire ants? I read about Advion Fire Ant Bait but it seems that repeated applications are needed.

ALike many fire ant baits, Advion Fire Ant Bait should be applied more than once.

The product needs to be applied when they are actively foraging, usually when the soil surface temperature is above 60 degrees. You can make up to 4 applications of ADVION® fire ant bait per year. These are generally applied at 12 to 16 week intervals. However, rainfall or irrigation within 2 to 3 hours after application may reduce the effectiveness of ADVION® fire ant bait and a repeat application within 7 days may be necessary to achieve the desired level of control. Do not apply if the area to be treated is wet with dew, irrigation or rainfall.

QCan I mix the advion with my fall fertilizer and broadcast?
I have 2 acres of lawn and want to know if I can mix the advion with fertilizer and broadcast the entire lawn.

ADepending on what fertilizer you are using, you most likely need to water it in. Advion Fire Ant Bait will not be as effective if gets wet after application. Please refer to the product label for proper application instructions.

QWhat spreader would you recommend using with Advion Fire Ant Bait?
A pound and a half per acre is a very small amount and I believe that even the lowest setting my Scots Pro Spreader is going to broadcast way too much product.

AYou do not have to have a broadcast spreader to apply Advion Fire Ant Bait and most spreaders will not dispense such a small amount as 1.5 lbs per acre. You can simply just sprinkle the bait around (not on) the mounds as directed on the product label.
