Are there any preventative sub-terranian termite treatments that are safe for edible plants?

We would like to treat the soil around the perimeter of our house in the hope of preventing termites, however we have many fruit trees that are within the treatment zone. Are there any effective chemicals that are safe - we'd hate to sacrifice all that fruit!

Answer:

There are not any liquid concentrates that are safe to use in the vicinity of the fruit trees. What most folks do is apply the liquid treatment in a trench everywhere except the places where the root zone of the fruit trees would interrupt the area and in those areas they apply Advance Termite Bait Stations. You should note that the treatment area is within 6 inches of your home and as long as the fruit trees (and their roots) are at least a few feet away they would not be in the treatment zone.
