Bob from Seattle, Wa writes

are there any termite chemicals that can be applied effectively by spraying - or do all require trenching

I have several portions of my house where trenching would be difficult, and also a flagstone area.

Answer:

If subterranean termites are what you are trying to protect your home from, trenching is the only method. This is because this type of termite will never cross the surface of the soil so they would not be affected by a simple spray on the surface of the dirt and the foundation of your home. In areas where you have concrete or thick rock, you would need to drill a hole every 12 inches apart across this barrier and treat each hole with roughly 1 gallon of solution. Each hole should be at least 18 inches deep.
