5 of 5 stars  Excellent product
By Jonathan in Nashville TN on 01/10/2016

I have a tree overhanging my driveway which makes wonderful shade but harbours aphids. All summer long they produce a sticky 'dew' which makes a mess on the cars. I applied this product around the trunk in the winter and the next summer there were no 'dew' issues. The following seasons I used maybe only half the recommended amount because it stays in a large tree more than 12 months. Also have been told to try to mow the fall leaves to mulch where they fall as that will return some of the pesticide to the soil to be used again.

By Bill in Fredericksburg, Texas on 09/09/2016

We found the bottle had wonderful directions and the product was very easy to apply and water in. We are now waiting to see if it does everything it is supposed to accomplish with our trees and shrubs. Can't help but think it will kill the insect infestations and keep the trees and shrubs fed. Bayer has a good reputation.

QWe have leafminers in our boxwoods - is Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree & Shrub the best product?
i have about 30 boxwoods in my yard and was just told that they have leafminers?? is this the best product to get rid of them?? I use a similar product from Bayer for my roses and it usually does the trick immediately. my other concern is that I live in MA and it can rain snow and be 80 all on the same day!! when is the best application time especially since there is already signs of discoloration thank you!!

AYes the 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed would work well for control of leafminers in boxwoods. You should check with your local cooerpative extension office for timing as the application timing will vary from region to region.

QHow do i use Bayer Advance 12 Month Tree & Shrub with my Gilmore sprayer for use with concentrates?
The gilmore can be changed from teaspoons per gal. or tablespoons per gallon. As a general rule, what should I set the gilmore to? Is your product effective against grasshoppers? and lastly, Is the product effectively balanced ratio wise for flower baring plants?

A

The setting you use is going to vary for where you are treating. According to the label:

How much to use:

Trees:
1 oz for every inch of distance
around trunk; treats 4 trees that
measure 8 inches around trunk
Shrubs:
3 oz for every foot of height;
treats 5 shrubs that are 2 foot tall
Containerized Plants:
1 2/3 tablespoons for each five gallon
container; treats up to 42 - five gallon
containers
Please see the Bayer Advance Product Label for complete instructions for your needs. As long as you have your setting adjusted for the right insect on the right plant, the balance of the ingredients even on flower bareing plants will be correct.
This product is not effective against grasshoppers according to the label, however we do carry Talstar which is a great safe yet powerful insecticide to control grasshoppers as well as a large variety of other insects.

QIs Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Feed safe and effective to prevent spider mites on Junipers?

ABayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II is not labeled to control spider mites. We recommend you contact your master gardener at your local cooperative extension office to see what he/she would recommend for you to use as we are not familiar with junipers and we do not want to recommend a product that would cause harm.

QDo I mix one ounce of the concentrate for every inch of tree diameter in how much water?

A

Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II - Concentrate is mixed at 1 oz per inch of trunk diameter.

The amount of water that is used will vary depending on soil conditions and volumes that are easy for applicators to use. The minimum amount of water that should be used is 1 pint per foot of shrub height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) but you may use 1 quart -1 gallon of water per foot of height (or inch of trunk diameter for trees) as well. Denser soils such as clay do not accept water as readily, so the lower volume of water is suggested.  Since sandy soils can accept more water, using the higher volume of water is preferred. After the soil drench has been applied you should water it in with at east 1/2 inch of water.
Note: Water simply acts as a carrier and it is important that even distribution of the product is achieved. Thus, more water may be used if the applicator feels runoff will not occur and proper penetration of the root zone is achieved. Insecticides applied to the soil are taken up by the roots and translocated throughout the tree or shrub. Root/soil drenches offer the advantage of requiring no special equipment to apply (other than a bucket or watering can). However, surface layers of organic matter, such as mulch or leaf litter, can bind the insecticide and reduce uptake. Before applying drenches, it is important to remove or pull back any mulch or dead leaves so the insecticide solution is poured directly on the mineral soil. It is also important to keep the soil around the tree or shrub moist for the next 7-10 days after applications to encourage uptake

QI am trying to prevent the emerald ash borer it has been raining a lot should I wait to use this product

AWhen using Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect and Feed II - Concentrate You want to wait until it is not raining. Rain after woods would be a positive because it will promote the product to penetrate better to the root system.

QWill Bayer Advanced 12 Month TRee & Shrub protect Sago Palms from a white scale infestation?
This problem is prevelant in Fl..

AImidacloprid (the active ingredient in this product) may have some effect on the scales but the Cycad scales the generally infest Sago Palms are known to be quite resistant to the active ingredient. Cycad scales really require a suffocant and a different systemic insecticide to be successfully controlled. We recommend that you treat the foliage with a quick working horticultural oil and then use a product containing dinotefuran such as Safari as a soil drench that will be translocated through the plant.

QI have a 13 year old espaliered pyracantha whose leaves are turning ashy, gray and appear to be dying.
I live in Birmingham, AL, Zone 7. Would this product be appropriate and is now the correct time to apply it?

AWe do apologize but without knowing what is causing the issue, insect or disease, we are not able to say if the Bayer Advanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub would work for you.  We highly recommend contacting your local Master Gardner or Cooperative Extension for help identifying the issue, we would then be more than happy to help with a product recommendation.
