  • 5 of 5 stars  Rosebush has REVIVED
By Nancy in Naples on 10/16/2016

I bought a brand new rose bush and it seemed to be struggling at home. I decided it had black spot, so I purchased this control. I've applied twice so far (two more to go per instructions) and it has completely revived the bush. I also tried it on my palm trees, we shall see.

QNew growth struggling
We live in New York City suburbs. Last year we sprayed several shrubs with Bayer Disease Control for Roses & Flowers and shrubs. We used the "concentrate form" which we mixed into a solution and sprayed the shrubs for black spot on the ten Red Twig Dogwood, Oak Leaf Hydrangea, and climbing roses located in various locations around our landscape ( we have used this products, successfully and with no side effects, for several growing seasons including 2013. After spraying, the leaves on all of the shrubs began to wilt and die off. The shrubs all survived winter and began to sprout new growth this spring however the new leaf growth has a strange stunted and twisted growth habit in their new leaves and continue for weeks in struggling to squeeze out from the follicles on the branches. The new growth is approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length and appears tentative in any further development. It seems as though the pores along the shrub branches have been coated and clogged. Have you seen this condition and do you know of some remedy that can correct this situation? Perhaps there is a solution which can completely cleanse the branches of any existing residues? We are grateful for any ideas you may have in this situation. The photo below represents the growth to our climbing roses this year. it has been virtually unchanged for the past 3 weeks. Thank you, Hopeful In New Jersey

ASince you have had success in the past with the Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses, Flowers & Shrubs Concentrate and there seems to be new and additional issues occuring, we recommend calling the manufacturer directly as well as your local extension office to help identify the type of disease that is affecting your plants. You may contact Bayer Advanced at 1-877-229-3724.

QWill Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses, Flowers & Shrubs Concentrate help treat Leaf Gall on Camelias?

A

No, Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses, Flowers and Shrubs Concentrate is not labeled for leaf gall.

Sanitation is the best control. Pull off and destroy all infected flowers. Rake up and remove all leaves, flowers and plant debris that have fallen to the ground. Replace the mulch under the plant. This fungus survives in the soil. Spores of the fungus can be wind-borne for up to a mile. Therefore, control is best achieved when controls are applied to other camellia plants in the community.

Fungicide sprays recommended for the flowers include mancozeb. Application of soil drenches, such as mancozeb or captan, around the plant every 2 weeks from late December through January may be helpful in reducing the intensity of disease. See Table 1 for examples of products. Apply all chemicals according to directions on the label.
