Bellow Hand Duster
  • Alternate Image 1

The Bellow Hand Duster features new design enhancements that make it the “Professional’s Choice” when it comes to crack and crevice treatments of fine dust products into small areas. This bellow hand duster features a new bellows and spring that is much easier to compress and use than other similar dusters on the market.  In addition, the clean-out rod comes with an o-ring for a tighter seal to prevent dust from escaping out the back of the duster.  A 6.5 inch extension makes it easy to treat hard to reach places. The metal extension also features an insulated black tip to prevent a shock hazard when dusting near electrical outlets. To use the duster, fill the rubber container (bellows) half-way full with an insecticide dust product such as Delta Dust or Pyganic Dust. It is also recommended to place a small rock in the duster to help break up the dust and prevent it from clumping. Compressing the bellows will cause dust to escape the metal tip of the duster. Using a duster allows you to inject dust more easily into cracks and crevices or inside wall voids where insects like to hide. We highly recommend purchasing a duster when applying any dust products. Note: This hand duster does not come with an insecticide dust. You will have to purchase the dust separately.

How to Properly Use the Bellow Hand Duster (Video)

Remove black rubber cap from top of the bellows. The duster should be filled only halfway with dust - no more than two-thirds full. This allows for adequate air space to create the desired air/dust mixture prior to application. If there is too much dust in the duster, clumps of dust on treated surfaces may result, leading to over application of the product and messy spills.

Between each squeeze, the duster should be shaken slightly to get dust floating inside the duster.

When applying dust into cracks and crevices and on surfaces, gently squeeze the duster to ensure the application of very thin layers of dust. When dusting correctly, you should barely be able to see the dust emerging from the tip of the duster.

Before relaxing your grip on the duster, pull it away from the surface or crack you are treating to prevent sucking up lint, moisture or debris. Small amounts of these items will eventually cause lumping and/or clogging of the duster. In the event that the nozzle becomes clogged, you may unscrew the rod from the rear of the nozzle and insert it into the nozzle to break up any clogs.

  • The easiest way (and correct way) to use the duster is upside down (with the bellows facing downward). Place several pebbles or small ball bearings in your duster to keep the dust agitated and ensure than any clumps are broken up prior to application.
  • Carry a small brush and a damp cloth. These can be used in the event that dust accidentally drifts out of cracks and crevices and onto non-target areas. Use the brush to push excess dust into cracks, and use the cloth to wipe up.

5 of 5 stars  Works Well
By Sarah in Palo Alto, CA on 06/07/2009
    Verified Purchase

Well, I have a spider issue in my house, as many others do as well. I have a small studio apartment in California, very old and in an area with a lot of trees. I bought Delta Dust to spray around my house as a preventative. So I've only used this hand duster with that product. I've found it very easy to use, and great for getting into all of those cracks and whatnot around my apartment. It has semi-clogged once, but I just shook it hard and that resolved the issue. I read somewhere to put a couple of rocks in the blower to keep clumps from forming, but I did not have that issue. It may be that since California has such a low humidity level that clumps are not as likely. The blower was very easy to fill, cap, and begin to use immediately. I have seen that as the dust gets low, I have to shake it a bit to settle the contents at the bottom, but it's not a huge problem. So I've had a very positive experience, and I've very glad I got this to distribute the Delta Dust with.

I got this to use with Delta Dust in our crawl spaces and have now started using it to blow the dust into cracks between the wood siding too. It works well, just be careful when filling it since the stopper hole is about the same size as the Delta Dust 1lb bottle top.

I was looking for something to apply BT to my cole crops. The Hudson Adjutant tin duster was terrible and cost me almost twice as much! It required constant shaking and lots of muscle power. The bellow hand duster is much easier to use and more accurate. Love it. Thanks!

I have used this duster for only 6 months and the bellows cracked which then leaked the dust. Poor quality.

3 of 5 stars  Works, but could use flexible tip
By Dorr in Cheraw, SC on 06/06/2011
    Verified Purchase

This is a good, reasonably priced product which does what it says it will do; that is, applying insecticidal dusts. However, I'm using it exclusively for carpenter bee control, and the dust must be applied up into their carefully drilled holes. Up, not sideways. The rigid tip on the applicator makes this impossible. This caused an issue for me, but I was able to work out a solution. I bought a length of flexible tubing and duct- taped it to the end of the applicator tip. This allows me to bend the tubing and shove it into the bee holes. It would be nice if a piece of tubing could be included as a free "accessory." Mine cost 54 cents at Lowe's.

Was much smaller than I expected but the quality seems very good. This would be much more useful if there was a longer tube available.

This duster is a great little tool; just make sure that when you fill the duster, you are outside as the dust is flying everywhere. I made the mistake of trying to fill inside and I had a mess.

There are more expensive dusters on the market and I believe the old saying "you get what you pay for".  In this case as a home owner and not a professional, I took a chance on the least expensive and am happy with my choice. Follow directions and it will work four stars good.

By Esther in Michigan on 08/16/2010

This is a must have item if you have wasps under your siding. One application using the bellow hand duster and the Delta Dust took care of my problem. Also they were building inside the door of a parked van, this also allowed the dust to get where it was needed. Great product. I had one last year and misplaced it, had to purchase a second one.

3 of 5 stars  Duster Clogs with Drione Dust
By Jlw in KS on 08/09/2010

I used this duster with Drione dust and it worked ok at first, but then started clogging. The Drione dust was about 90% fine powder with about 10% larger particles. The larger particles kept clogging the nozzle, which is frustrating when you're on your hands and knees or bent over trying to use the duster. A piece of wire (coat hanger) would unclog it, but was a pain. I'm not sure if I had a bad batch of [Drione] dust or not.

QI am getting too much dust when I squeeze the bellow hand duster. Am I doing something wrong?
Firstly thanks for your great level of service and pricing. My last order included Delta dust and a duster. I am trying to dust my electrical outlets, however I notice no matter how gently I squeeze the duster I seem to get dust all over the place. The Delta dust seems to spill out into a cloud out of the electrical outlets. I am concerned that I could inhale the dust. Any advice would be appreciated.

AYou are most likely holding the bellow hand duster incorrectly. After you fill the bellow hand duster about 1/4-1/3 of the way with dust you should replace the black cap and then flip the duster over so the red or blue band is now at the top and the black rubber cap is facing the ground. This will help you dispense smaller amounts of dust into the outlets.

QCan the hand duster be used multiple times?
I was going to use it with Tri Dust. How often do I have to replace it?

AThe bellow hand duster can be used over and over again with no problem. Be sure to store the duster in a cool dry environment so that the rubber on the duster will not breakdown. Most people have their bellow hand dusters for years before they need to be replaced.

QHow can I solve the problem of a lot of dust shooting out with the Bellow duster?
When I use this with Drione Dust, a lot of dust just shoots out of the duster and it is really frustrating, so I want to know how to resolve this problem? Or do you have an electric duster for indoor purposes?

AThe bellow hand duster is made to hold in different positions to control the amount of dust that comes out.  To let out the least amount of dust, you should actually hold the duster upside down, with the black plunger facing down.  If you hold it to the side it will let out a little more, and then if you hold it upright, black plunger up which is probably how you are applying it now, it lets out the most amount of dust.  The least amount of dust is actually the best method, so you should hold it upside down.

QGoing to kill bumble bee nest under a whiskey barrel. Is the inexpensive duster OK or do I need B&G?
The bees are definitely Bumble, not carpenter. They are in my back yard close to back door under a whiskey barrel planter. No body wants to move them, so I have to kill them. Too dangerous to allow them to stay with child & a dog that hunts bugs. I'm concerned about the nozzle length of the different dusters & being able to effectively get under the planter.

AThe bellow hand duster is usually sufficient for most small jobs. The bellow hand duster does have a 5 inch extension nozzle and you only have to get into the entrance of the nest. As the bees go in and out they will spread the dust through the nest themselves.

QCan the same bellow hand duster be used with two different dust pesticides?
.... as long as it is emptied of the first type before filling it with the second type?

AAs long as the bellow hand duster is completely emptied of the first dust insecticide there should be no problem using a second dust product in the same duster.

QHow much easier is the new design to compress?
I have the old design which I use to apply DE to my cats as the tip places the dust close to the skin where the fleas are. However, I have very small hands and need one of them to hold the cat. Is this one noticeably easier to use so that my hands won't become as fatigued?

AThe design of the Bellow Hand Duster has remained the same and we are not able to tell a difference between the ease of use. The Bellow Hand Duster has a spring mechanism that does require more presure to expel the dust. However, if the pressure needed to push the dust is a concern maybe the Bulb Duster may be a better option for your needs.

QCan I use an extension hose at end of the extension tip of the Bellow Hand Duster?
I know you sell the Long Shot Puffer, but will a piece of tubing, say 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch diameter hose fit on the end to use as an extension if I need to reach a few feet.

We would recommend only using the Bellow Hand Duster as is, and not attempting add any additional tubing to the end of the extension. You most likely would lose both dust and necessary air pressure†out of the connection. If you need to reach longer distances, you could something like the B&G 2†Quart Duster 1152-A, which has several different attachments and adds an electrostatic charge to insecticide dusts. You may browse all of our Dusters here.

QWhat is the end of the tube

ATo better answer your questions, please clarify what products you are referring to. If you are referring to the Bellow Hand Duster, it is the cap.
