Bonide Stump Out Stump and Vine Killer

    By Carolyn on 10/05/2015

I bought this product to kill back this trump tree/vine off of my house. My inconsiderate neighbor planted this trumpet vine on his property years ago, now it looks more like a tree and had grown over the property line onto the roof and windows of my home. He does not maintain it. I had to climb a ladder and spray the vine that was on my side of the property line and it has killed it back. It did not kill the entire vine, but killed it back off of my house. Oh, I used one of those pumping type sprayer with the nozzle like people use to spray for insects.

I tried everything on my ivy vine and nothing would kill it. Then I tried your "Do MY Own" and it worked great. It took a couple of days but it worked.

I needed this product to kill roots that were invading my septic tank. To replace my tank would have cost me thousands of dollars.

Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill white bird of paradise?

My neighbor's bird of paradise is out of control. After cutting on my side it comes back.

A

We do not advise of any applications on your neighbors property. Bird of Paradise can be very difficult to kill whether it is a small or large plant. Industry experts have found that watering the surrounding soil, exposing the roots and applying a glyphosate product helps kill and soften the roots making them easier to remove. You want to remove the compact root ball in one piece to prevent regrowth. We recommend consulting with your extension office for further options

Q
Will the Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill tree stumps and the roots?

The trees are down but the roots still are shooting up sprouts. Need to kill the roots. The trees were poplar and the roots are growing under my asphalt driveway.

A

Yes. The Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer will kill the stump and the roots. You want to cut the suckers sprouts off, and make hatchet marks deep enought to hit the cambium cell layer of the tree. This layer is the growing part of the tree, and it will absorb the chemical to kill down to the roots.

Q
Can Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer be used to control suckers from trees?
A

Yes. The Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer will kill the stump and the roots. You want to cut the suckers sprouts off, and make hatchet marks deep enough to hit the cambium cell layer of the tree. This layer is the growing part of the tree, and it will absorb the chemical to kill down to the roots. Sucker Stopper is an option for some trees that does not require cutting the tree.

Q
Will Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer kill a black locust tree and roots?
A

Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer is labeled for locust.

To apply as a Stump Treatment: Apply this product undiluted to kill stumps and prevent sprouting. Using the applicator top, completely cover the freshly cut surface.

To use for Vine Control: For best results when treating vines such as poison oak, poison ivy, etc. that grow on or around desirable plants, cut the vine first and treat as directed above for stump treatment. Do not let product contact desirable plants.

Apply at the rate of one gallon spray mixture per 500 sq. ft. Coverage will depend on the amount of foliage to be treated. Apply as a thorough foliage spray to wet all leaves using a coarse spray pattern with low pressure. Use the higher rate for mature or hard-to-control plants (such as ash, blackgum, choke cherry, elm, maple, oak, pine, or winged elm), or during drought conditions. Using low rates may result in resprouting of weeds in a year following treatment. Make applications when brush and weeds are actively growing with full leaf coverage. In 1 to 6 weeks, symptoms such as wilting will occur. Make applications when the air is calm. Effectiveness may be reduced if rainfall occurs with 24 hours of application.

Q
Can I plant new shrubs next to stumps freshly treated with Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer?

I have a bunch of Burning Bush that I am removing due to their tendency to be invasive. I will be applying Stump out on all of the stumps. I want to replace the Burning Bush immediately with a noninvasive native shrub, such as viburnum or witch hazel. If I plant them between the treated stumps, will their roots be vulnerable?

A

Bonide Stump Out Stump & Vine Killer will not have any effect on a new bush planted next to a treated stump as long as the treatment was done directly on the freshly cut stump.
