BTI Mosquito Briquets are a sustained-release larvicide that conveniently floats right on the water surface. These briquets can be used in virtually any standing water site where mosquito larvae grow. As the briquets float, BTI (or bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, a natural mosquito-killing biocontrol agent) is slowly released at the water’s surface and gradually settles in the water where it is consumed mosquito larvae. Bti kills mosquito larvae before they are able to grow into mature, biting adults, eventually controlling the mosquito population. Additionally, the toxin will continue to be released into the water for a period of 30 days or more, providing continuous kill. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth.

Pesky mosquitoes love to live and breed in damp and wet areas where there is little or a lot of standing water, such as conatinerized ponds, flower pots, flooded basements roof gutters and old car tires. If left undisrupted in these natural habitats, mosquito populations will continue to thrive. To address this problem, Summit Chemical has created Bti Mosquito Briquets, a sustained-release larvicide that conveniently floats right on the water surface. These briquets can be used in virtually any standing water site where mosquito larvae grow. As the briquets float, Bti (or bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, a natural mosquito-killing biocontrol agent) is slowly released at the water’s surface and gradually settles in the water where it is consumed by mosquito larvae. Bti kills both the mosquito larvae before they are able to grow into mature, biting adults. Additionally, the toxin will continue to be released into the water for a period of 30 days or more, providing continuous kill. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth. For smaller surfaces, use ¼ or ½ briquet as directed on the product label. Alternate wetting and drying of this product will not reduce its effectiveness, so each briquette may be used and reused. Unused briquets will remain effective indefinitely. To prevent dunks from being washed away, anchor them using a string tied through the center hole, or they can be staked in place. Mosquito Briquets contain no poisonous chemicals and are harmless to other living things. May be used as either a pre- or post-hatch treatment.
Directions for Use:
These briquets/dunks may be used in all types of mosquito breeding areas. To prevent briquets/dunks from being flushed out of certain treatment sites, they can be anchored using string tied through the hole in the center or staked in place.
Pre-flood treatment. If the briquets/dunks are applied to dry areas listed on the label which are known or suspected to become breeding sites when flooded, such as abandoned swimming pools, the briquets will float to the surface when flooding occurs and start releasing the active Bti material. Alternate wetting and drying will not reduce their effectiveness.
Flooded larvae breeding sites: Use one (1) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS for up to 100 sq. ft. of surface area, regardless of depth. In water with a high organic content, such as sewage disposal systems or waste lagoons, the application rate may have to be increased to as much as four (4) times the normal dosage based upon evaluation by the user.
When larval populations are high, aquatic vegetation dense, or the water highly polluted at the time of briquet/dunks use, pre-treatment with SUMMIT MOSQUITO BITS® is recommended. The briquet/dunks will then suppress larval development for up to 30 days or more. Some larvae which hatch after briquet/dunks application may partially develop before dying. Allow a minimum of 48 hours for their control.
Pre-Flood treatment: Apply one (1 ) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS to each 100 sq. ft. of dry bed surface which is known or suspected breeding site when flooded.
Evaporative Coolers: Apply one (1) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS to each 100 sq. ft. of Cooler box or for smaller Coolers refer to the table below for application rate.
SAFE FOR USE IN FISH HABITATS
Outdoor Use around the Household to kill Mosquito Larvae: Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS can be broken into portions for use in many outdoor applications near the household, such as standing water in bird baths, old automobile tires, rain barrels, abandoned or unused swimming pools (particularly above ground types), ditches, tree holes, roof gutters for collecting rainwater, flower pots, animal watering troughs or any other locations near the household where water collects and remains for periods of time. Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS can be broken and used as shown in the following table, the amount dependent upon the surface area of water in the treatment site. Mosquito Dunks / Bti Briquets may also be used in any containerized standing water found near the home.
Preflood treatment around the Household: Apply Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS to any dry surface listed on the label which is known to become flooded after a rain. Use the correct amount in accordance with the above dosage table.
INDOOR USE: For use in areas that collect water from time to time areas such as elevator shafts, basements that flood, sump pumps and any drainage areas within buildings. Use the correct amount in accordance with the above dosage table.
Waste WaterTreatment Plants: Place Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS in a perforated basket, such as a minnow bait basket, and suspend the basket in the waste water stream before the water enters the trickling filter. Keep basket continuously filled with Briquets/Dunks to ensure a steady flow of Bti into the filter. The number of Briquets/Dunks needed for continuous, effective treatment in each facility will be dependent upon the volume and flow rate of the stream. This will have to be determined by the user.

Mosquito Dunks Work for Our Large Pastures
By Donna in Mesa, Az on 09/05/2010
We purchased 100 mosquito dunks for a horrible mosquito problem we had in our pastures. We didn't want anything poisonous for animals, but we needed something to get rid of them. Since our last irrigation, they have been cut in half and we hope with another go around of it, that we can diminish them down even further. I like that it kills the larva. The only down side for us is with 5 acres of pasture it would be nice if I could find something less labor intensive, i.e., something I could just drip into our irrigation system without have to walk the whole area placing these donuts out. Great product. Does it come in a concentrated liquid form for irrigation?

Control those mosquitoes
By Ona in Lakemont, GA on 05/03/2010
These are the best way to control mosquitoes in open rain barrels. We have used them for years but now that we have 5 barrels had to have a better price then at the box stores. Delighted for find them on line for 1/2 the price we had previously paid. We received them very quickly and have them in all the barrels at the present time.

By Leslie in Surfside, Potrero, Gste, Costa Rica on 06/30/2010
I can't find dunks in Costa Rica, where I have a second home. Mosquitos down there can carry dengue and malaria. Yet preserving the environment for the great numbers of living things down there requires using something organic and natural. I put a dunk in my gray water drains once a month. Sometimes I drop one down the street in the rain culvert that is always damp. Within a few days there is a dramatic reduction in the numbers of mosquitos at my home. The dunks work GREAT!

Surprised by insecticide in this biological product.
By Joe in O.P, KS on 04/26/2012
I bought this product because it said it is safe. I may have read the description wrong but I thought that there would be no harmful chemicals in this product. That was what sold me with this product since my dog and little girl use the backyard where the dunks have been applied. To my surprise on the back of the packaging it says to not breathe in the dust, get on your skin, or in your eyes because of the chemicals in the product. I do not believe this product is just a biological control as described. I am not saying it is a bad product, it is working, you just get a few extra ingredients than what you pay for.

Night time's pond
By Roger in Levering, MI on 06/27/2011
Works well, but for large ponds as mine, buy 2 of the 20 pk. I also placed around home and one in my garage.
By Deb in Ontonagon on 09/28/2016
I order several cases of these a yr. They sure make a huge difference in the amount of mosquitos we get, lots less & we have lots of standing water/small ponds & wetlands on our property near our home. Before the yrs. of dunks, there were days & evenings we couldn't go outside, they were that bad!

BTI Mosquito Dunks
By Katie in Wiscasset, Maine on 07/21/2016
This site had the best price of the several that I searched. The Mosquito Dunks were recommended to me by our exterminator (he comes annually to spray for ants) because he told me he saw mosquito larvae in a rain barrel we have, and this was the product he recommended. They work fine as far as my limited knowledge goes. They disintegrate over time (some weeks), so you have to keep an eye on them, for replenishing.
birth control 4 skeeters
By Judy in Naples, FL on 07/18/2016
These are the only things I can put in my rain barrels to keep the skeeters from breeding. The water is still okay for my plants, too. I live in SW Florida and we have lots of rain and mosquitoes.
By Bebe in Texas on 07/15/2016
These are working as great as the ones I was buying at the local store but at a great savings.

dunks vs. zita
By B in Martinez, Georgia on 07/14/2016
I have about 6 feet of standing water in an old closed pool. I was worried about mosquitoes and their nasty viruses. After asking my local pool company about a mosquito repellent, they acted like I was crazy and said there was no such thing. My son in law had told me there was a product used after Katrina in standing water to kill mosquitoes. I did a little research and found this web site. I have no way of judging if the product is working because it is a growth inhibitor but I give thumbs up to the company. They were very easy to order from and prompt in delivery. The dunks themselves are hard cakes that you just toss in the water. It seems to be a good purchase. BTW, I called the pool company and told them about the product.

By Brad in Kanarraville, UT on 06/27/2016
We have a huge pond right out our front door. 11,500 sq ft. We have thousands of koi in our pond so we were afraid to try the dunks but with mosquitoes eating us alive we knew we had to take a leap of faith. I put 100 dunks in a week ago and as our title says, so far so good!! I will be ordering them again in a month or so. We are determined to take our yard back!!

QAre BTI Mosquito Dunks safe to use in pools?
I set up a small pool for my children in the summer. Are these safe to put in the pool with them - specifically if they accidentally drink some of the water or get it in their eyes?
AAccording to Summit Chemical the manufacturer of the Mosquito Dunks, you can use the dunks directly in wading pools and they will not harm your children. These dunks will float on top of the water for several weeks so we would suggest that you take the dunks out of the pool while the children are in the water so they will not play with them.

QWill the active ingredient in Bti Briquets migrate from a pond to the underground ground water?
If so, then it could contaminate a water well in close proximity to the pond?
AThe BTI Briquets/dunks will not normally migrate anywhere it will simply slowly breakdown until gone in standing water areas where you dont want pest reproduction to occur. If any of the product did get into the water table somehow it would not be a problem as this product does not harm us and can be used in drinking troughs for animals, in ponds with fish being caught for consumption, and in rain barrels where the water is used to water vegetables.

QWill BTI Mosquito Dunks affect turtles?
08/20/2014 Arlette from Clayton Nc
QI am having a problem with terminology of the BTI Mosquito Dunks.
The website refers to Mosquito Dunks. The product is sold in pack of 20. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water. I worked out that a pack holds 20 dunks but what is a briquet? I know what it is in French but I doubt that applies here!
AA briquet is a small brick of compressed coal, sawdust, etc. In this case, it is a small brick of Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis solids, spores and insecticidal toxins. It is just another name for the individual BTI Mosquito Dunks. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
QAre BTI Mosquito Dunks product harmful to honeybees?
ANo, BTI Mosquito Dunks are not harmful to honeybees.

QCan I use BTI Mosquito dunks to control mosquitos in French drains?
I have a bad mosquito problem which I think is coming from my French drain system underneath my backyard concrete patio. There are 6 inlets, and it really seems that the problem is coming from the inlets. I have sprayed the rest of the areas with backyard control products that is supposed to last for a few months, and also have a mosquito misting system. The only pesky area is righty at our feet and it drives us crazy! I've used a little bleach in the drain inlets because someone told me that would help... Only worked for a few hours. The drains are those black plastic ribbed type and I'm pretty sure they nearly always have a little standing water in them due to the ribs. What's the best solution? Would crushed up BTI donuts work if I poured a few gallons of water after insertion to have it spread out down the pipes?
A BTI Mosquito Dunks will be a great choice to apply in french drains for mosquitos. We recommend using Bifen IT and Pivot 10 on the exterior of the home as well as other non-chemical methods for eradication. I have included some great articles below that you might find extremely helpful!
