BTI Mosquito Briquets are a sustained-release larvicide that conveniently floats right on the water surface. These briquets can be used in virtually any standing water site where mosquito larvae grow. As the briquets float, BTI (or bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, a natural mosquito-killing biocontrol agent) is slowly released at the water’s surface and gradually settles in the water where it is consumed mosquito larvae. Bti kills mosquito larvae before they are able to grow into mature, biting adults, eventually controlling the mosquito population. Additionally, the toxin will continue to be released into the water for a period of 30 days or more, providing continuous kill. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth.

Product Documents
Pesky mosquitoes love to live and breed in damp and wet areas where there is little or a lot of standing water, such as ponds, flower pots, ditches, flooded basements, or drainage areas. If left undisrupted in these natural habitats, mosquito populations will continue to thrive. To address this problem, Summit Chemical has created Bti Mosquito Briquets, a sustained-release larvicide that conveniently floats right on the water surface. These briquets can be used in virtually any standing water site where mosquito larvae grow. As the briquets float, Bti (or bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, a natural mosquito-killing biocontrol agent) is slowly released at the water’s surface and gradually settles in the water where it is consumed by mosquito larvae. Bti kills both the mosquito larvae before they are able to grow into mature, biting adults. Additionally, the toxin will continue to be released into the water for a period of 30 days or more, providing continuous kill. Each briquet will effectively treat up to 100 square feet of surface water regardless of depth. For smaller surfaces, use ¼ or ½ briquet as directed on the product label. Alternate wetting and drying of this product will not reduce its effectiveness, so each briquette may be used and reused. Unused briquets will remain effective indefinitely. To prevent dunks from being washed away, anchor them using a string tied through the center hole, or they can be staked in place. Mosquito Briquets contain no poisonous chemicals and are harmless to other living things. May be used as either a pre- or post-hatch treatment.
Directions for Use:
These briquets/dunks may be used in all types of mosquito breeding areas. To prevent briquets/dunks from being flushed out of certain treatment sites, they can be anchored using string tied through the hole in the center or staked in place.
Pre-flood treatment. If the briquets/dunks are applied to dry areas which are known or suspected to become breeding sites when flooded, such as woodland pools and abandoned swimming pools, the briquets will float to the surface when flooding occurs and start releasing the active Bti material. Alternate wetting and drying will not reduce their effectiveness.
APPLICATION RATES
Mosquito Larvae:
Flooded larvae breeding sites: Use one (1) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS for up to 100 sq. ft. of surface area, regardless of depth. In water with a high organic content, such as sewage disposal systems or waste lagoons, the application rate may have to be increased to as much as four (4) times the normal dosage based upon evaluation by the user.
When larval populations are high, aquatic vegetation dense, or the water highly polluted at the time of briquet/dunks use, pre-treatment with SUMMIT MOSQUITO BITS® is recommended. The briquet/dunks will then suppress larval development for up to 30 days or more. Some larvae which hatch after briquet/dunks application may partially develop before dying. Allow a minimum of 48 hours for their control.
Pre-Flood treatment: Apply one (1 ) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS to each 100 sq. ft. of dry bed surface which is known or suspected breeding site when flooded.
Evaporative Coolers: Apply one (1) Summit B.t.i. BRIQUET/DUNKS to each 100 sq. ft. of Cooler box or for smaller Coolers refer to the table below for application rate.
SAFE FOR USE IN FISH HABITATS
Outdoor Use around the Household to kill Mosquito Larvae: Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS can be broken into portions for use in many outdoor applications near the household, such as standing water in bird baths, old automobile tires, rain barrels, ponds, abandoned or unused swimming pools (particularly above ground types), ditches, tree holes, roof gutters for collecting rainwater, flower pots, animal watering troughs or any other locations near the household where water collects and remains for periods of time. Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS can be broken and used as shown in the following table, the amount dependent upon the surface area of water in the treatment site. Mosquito Dunks / Bti Briquets may also be used in any containerized standing water found near the home.
Preflood treatment around the Household: Apply Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS to any dry surface which is known to become flooded after a rain. Use the correct amount in accordance with the above dosage table.
INDOOR USE: For use in areas that collect water from time to time areas such as elevator shafts, basements that flood, sump pumps and any drainage areas within buildings. Use the correct amount in accordance with the above dosage table.
Waste WaterTreatment Plants: Place Summit B.t.i. BRIQUETS/DUNKS in a perforated basket, such as a minnow bait basket, and suspend the basket in the waste water stream before the water enters the trickling filter. Keep basket continuously filled with Briquets/Dunks to ensure a steady flow of Bti into the filter. The number of Briquets/Dunks needed for continuous, effective treatment in each facility will be dependent upon the volume and flow rate of the stream. This will have to be determined by the user.

Mosquito Dunks Work for Our Large Pastures
By Donna on September 5, 2010We purchased 100 mosquito dunks for a horrible mosquito problem we had in our pastures. We didn't want anything poisonous for animals, but we needed something to get rid of them. Since our last irrigation, they have been cut in half and we hope with another go around of it, that we can diminish them down even further. I like that it kills the larva. The only down side for us is with 5 acres of pasture it would be nice if I could find something less labor intensive, i.e., something I could just drip into our irrigation system without have to walk the whole area placing these donuts out. Great product. Does it come in a concentrated liquid form for irrigation?

Control those mosquitoes
By Ona on May 3, 2010These are the best way to control mosquitoes in open rain barrels. We have used them for years but now that we have 5 barrels had to have a better price then at the box stores. Delighted for find them on line for 1/2 the price we had previously paid. We received them very quickly and have them in all the barrels at the present time.

Mosquito Dunks
By Leslie on June 30, 2010I can't find dunks in Costa Rica, where I have a second home. Mosquitos down there can carry dengue and malaria. Yet preserving the environment for the great numbers of living things down there requires using something organic and natural. I put a dunk in my gray water drains once a month. Sometimes I drop one down the street in the rain culvert that is always damp. Within a few days there is a dramatic reduction in the numbers of mosquitos at my home. The dunks work GREAT!

BTI Mosquito Dunks
By Terry on April 28, 2010I've been using them for ten years in my rain barrels (have 6). They work very well. DoMyOwnPestControl has the best price and excellent service.

The county uses these
By TR on April 11, 2013I work in the local county health department and know that the Environmental Health Division of the health dept. uses BTi mosquito dunks exclusively in their mosquito abatement program. They do not spray chemicals in the mosquito breeding waters. They only use BTi mosquito dunks and the guys there tell me that BTi mosquito dunks are appropriate for organic standards and that the dunks only target mosquito larvae and no other insects. I hope that's true.

BTI Mosquito Dunks-CASE (100 dunks)
By Joanne on November 16, 2012We have a daylily farm and grow daylilies in pots with frames built for holding water so the daylilies can be watered from the bottom. We had huge problems with mosquitoes this year, and several of our friends have contracted West Nile Virus in Middle Georgia. We ordered the case of BTI Mosquito Dunks, and have been able to eradicate the mosquito problem. We don't have to worry about poison . They are safe for the animals, and we even have some in the bird baths. Very good product with excellent service from Do My Own Pest Control.

BTI Mosquito Dunks
By Becca on September 21, 2012I have a fountain and 2 bird baths in my yard. I place a 1/4 pie of these dunks in each and it keeps the mosquitos from laying egggs and the larva hatching. I am glad I found them. This allows me to keep the birds eating the mosquitos and the standing water free from the mosquito reproduction.

MOSQUITO DUNKS WORK
By Ben on August 16, 2012These bad boys really work. My back yard backs up to a creek; the mosquitoes had gotten so bad that we had to stop going out back. Bought these and applied the length of my block - within 2-3 days the little buggers started to magically disappear. You have to tie/anchor them to the bank or they will float downstream, also critters like to eat 'em. You need a lot of string, but after the 1st application, you can just go back and attach another one to the string. To immediately kill the larva's, crush one and then tie one in for the long-lasting mosquito devastation. Actually only last about 15-20 days. This is why they only get 4 stars. These guys are also lightning fast on shipping. I'll be a customer for a long time!

They work

Very good product!!
By Nancy on June 28, 2012We put them in the stock tanks that we have close to our house. Those tanks are usually teeming with mosquito babies! We completely emptied the tanks, filled them back up, put the dunks in and NO MOSQUITOES!! It is a very dry year here, but I was afraid the mosquitoes would be worse next to the house, since we have all of the standing water in those tanks, but I have only seen 1. I was very pleased with how well these worked. Our dogs did like to pick them out of the tanks, since they float. The dogs didn't seem to have any ill effects, but we decided to put something heavy on it in the bottom of the tank so the dogs couldn't get to them.

February 26, 2010Michael asked:
QWhat is the shelf life of BTI Mosquito Dunks?
My agency has 7 boxes of BTI Mosquito dunks and I could find no date of expiration. Is there a limit on the length of time they can be stored before they are no longer effective?
ABTI Mosquito Dunks should be used within 2 years of the date of purchase. It is also important to store BTI Mosquito dunks out of direct sunlight and heat so that the product will not degrade.
October 5, 2010Jeffrey asked:
QAre BTI Mosquito Dunks safe for use in ponds with fish in it?
AYes, BTI Mosquito Dunks are safe for use around aquatic life and fish in ponds.
March 26, 2012Steve from Milwaukee, Wi asked:
QAre BTI Mosquito Dunks safe to use in pools?
I set up a small pool for my children in the summer. Are these safe to put in the pool with them - specifically if they accidentally drink some of the water or get it in their eyes?
AAccording to Summit Chemical the manufacturer of the Mosquito Dunks, you can use the dunks directly in wading pools and they will not harm your children. These dunks will float on top of the water for several weeks so we would suggest that you take the dunks out of the pool while the children are in the water so they will not play with them.
February 8, 2012Dee from Henderson, Nv asked:
QI have a waterfall, my dog and cat love to drink out of it, will BTI be harmful to them?
ABTI is specifically labeled to be used in animal watering troughs so there should not be any problem with your animals drinking from the waterfall after it has been treated with BTI Mosquito Dunks.
May 16, 2011Jo asked:
QHow big is the BTI Mosquito Dunk?
I would like to know if it will be able to fit down a "bee hive" sewer grate.
AThe diameter of a BTI Mosquito dunk is about 2" and each dunk is about 1/2" thick.
