Silas from Chicago, Il writes

Can Defendor Herbicide be used in vegetable garden areas?

Is there any residual effect to soil? Can I use this product to control weeds in vegetable gardening. Will it prevent vegetable seeds from germinating?

Answer:

Defendor Herbicide is not labeled for use around edible plants such as a vegetable garden. There are very few residual herbicides that have such labeling. Defendor is just a post-emergent herbicide, so it would not persist in the soil for very long, however, it should not be sprayed in a way where it would contact desirable plants. Please see the product label for complete restrictions and precautions. We do sell Avenger Herbicide which is an organic post-emergent herbicide that would not affect future plants. Avenger herbicide will kill any plants that you spray, so you would need to be careful to avoid spraying desirable plants. We do sell Monterey Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder which is a pre-emergent herbicide that can be used around certain vegetables. See the product label for complete application instructions.
