Bill from Chesapeake, Va writes

Can I use Drexel Diuron before and after starting a new lawn?

I have a yard full of various weeds like crabgrass, I have tried growing tall fescue and have now decided on a non-hybrid Bermuda grass. I will start from seed. My question is, can I use this in my sprayer to help clear the yard of the weeds pre and post emergent? Can I continue to use Drexel Diuron 80 on an established Bermuda lawn?

Answer:

Drexel Diuron 80 Herbicide is not labeled to be used on homes lawns, so it would not be recommended. If you want to kill everything currently growing in the area now, you should use a glyphosate based product like RoundUp QuikPro, then you can resod the area in 2 weeks.  After the sod is established you would use a pre-emergent like Prodiamine 65 WDG and a post emergent like Drive XLR8 to more effectively control crabgrass and other broadleaf weeds.
