Carpenter ants ignoring the bait traps

I just put out the traps. Bait gel in one side, granules in the other. They hover like they're interested, then just fly away or dive into the crevice. I expected to see them going in for the bait. Also, in one of the traps, the bait and gel got mixed together. Is that one useless now? Thanks.

Answer:

It is completely normal for the ants to take time to get used to the bait before they start consuming it. Most professionals will give the bait at least two weeks. If you are dealing with winged ants they may not eat it at all because they do not typically eat at that stage. The mixed bait should not be a problem and you can continue using it.
