Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Clover Mite Control

Overview

The clover mite is barely smaller than a pinhead. You may notice clover mites as dark red moving specks which occur in large numbers. They are generally found crawling around doors, windows, sidings, curtains, or furniture.

Prevention & Control Methods:

  1. Remove all grass and weeds within 18 to 24 inches of your home.
  2. Put out a band of coarse sand, gravel, or wood chips immediately surrounding the foundation. This will keep clover mites from entering the structure.
  3. Apply Talstar, ProCare Bifen 7.9 Insecticide, or another bifenthrin insecticide labeled for use on clover mites using a hand-pump sprayer on exterior foundation walls, up 2 to 3 feet, and extending 10 feet out into the lawn. Walls should be sprayed to the point of runoff and leaving surrounding vegetation thoroughly wet.
  4. If Clover Mites have migrated indoors, you can also spray along the baseboards with Talstar. However, a vacuum cleaner will likely be sufficient to pick up live clover mites. Be careful not to crush the mites to avoid stains. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately.

Recommended Products for Clover Mite Control:

Talstar P - Excellent residual insecticide with a broad label: Long residual control over termites and 75 other pests.

ProCare Bifen 7.9 - A similar product to Talstar P with equivalent effectiveness against clover mites.
