California Argentine Ant problem
By Peter on January 19, 2011
Verified Purchase
We have a serious Argentine ant problem in our area. Many households I know have tried all kinds of stuff. I finally plunked down some real money for some real control and wow did it work. Three days of baiting in about 8 spots around my house which have had ant activity for years and where I have baited with other products for years to no avail, and within a week, no more ants. Not one, anywhere. Really worked well. Only required one and a half syringes of the sugar based gel and they were all over it. Now, nothing, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!! Highly recommended.

Ant control
By Roger on June 15, 2010My problem was small sweet ants and they were well established at four locations in our house. I used many over the counter ant control but none worked. First treatment with the gel applicator and three of the four ant locations were gone. The last location took longer before all were gone. I was told to continue treatment as it may take up to three weeks before complete control. Lots of kit left should they return. Thanks to Domyownpestcontrol!!

This is the BEST stuff I have ever used, I had a guy who came out once a month to spray for ants. I had to sign a years contract. Well he got paid every month but I still had ANTS and alot of them. When my year was up I started getting whatever I could to get rid of them but nothing worked. A friend told me about this product and it works great, the best thing I ever bought. You just put it in the bait trays and come back in 1 hour and you won't believe all the ants. DONT KILL THEM!! Yhey take it back to their nest and it kills them all. My ant problem has really gone down and I will keep using this product. You will be very pleased if you buy this yourself!

I put down the liquid when I noticed about 10 sugar ants in my bathroom. This initially attracted a mass of a couple hundred ants. Within 3 days I had carnage all over the bathroom floor and have not seen another ant since. I am very impressed!

The Optigard gel bait and granules worked very fast!!! I used to have Orkin come by to help with the ant problem and they would get rid of them, but it would take 7-10 days. After using your gel bait I didn't see any ants after 2 days...amazing!

Amazing ant control
By Mary-claire on March 7, 2013We have had ant problems for YEARS and have tried dozens of products with very little success. This was our last effort before callinging in the professionals. I was absolutely shocked at how fast and effectively this worked. For us, the granules were especially effective. This is an oustanding product and I will definintely be recommending it.

WORKS AS ADVERTISED
By Rick on February 24, 2013"DMOPC" was my last stop before hiring a pest control company to spray monthly @ about $40 a month. Ants OWNED my kitchen and retail poisons just didn't work. I followed the directions, left home for a 5 day cruise, and returned, NOT ONE SINGLE ANT!

Optiguard is amazing
By Buck on February 11, 2013

I bought this for our home because our office's pest control pro used it. It is crazy good. I've tried half a dozen different gels and while the ants will eat them, it's nothing like the way they go nuts when Optiguard is used. I have colonies of ants in my soffits that I've been feeding Gourmet Liquid Ant Bait and MaxForce to for 3 months. 2 weekends with Optiguard and no more ants. Incidentally, the Optiguard docs say that it remains appealing for a long time - I found that when I added new gel to an area that still had remaining gel from a prior application, it would attract whole new swarms that weren't visible just moments before.

Works!

We had a bad ghost ant problem in our kitchen. Put 3 of these traps down with both the gel and granules. One day there taking granules (protein), the next the gel (sugar). Within a couple of days, the problem has gone away 99%. We don't see these ants anymore. The product works.

Complete Ant Kit
By Bryan on February 4, 2013

I tried to identify the variety of ant but could not. Called Customer Support and they explained the kit had both granular and gel products that are placed into the same bait station. My particular variety of ant found the stations(s) right away and the gel is what they preferred. Their communication mechanism is impressive and within two hours many many ants were feeding on the gel. 24 hours later there was no sign of ants feeding and I have not seen an ant since.

I tried everything and the ants kept coming back.... worse than ever with Home Defense. The ants spread far and wide with that stuff. I called around and the professional pest control said they would do the ant treatment for $175-$300. I did it myself for _$50. I have plenty of additional bait if I ever need it again. I am A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER!

By Hubert on October 10, 2012After I killed the ant beds in my yard, they decided to into the walls of my house.I tried everything you can by at Lowes,Home depot, etc. They do not work.I bought this kit,and I only put out 5 traps with granules and the gel. Then I put the gel where I knew they where traveling in and out of.This stuff does work,I have only seen one ant since I have put it out.It has been over 5 weeks,ANT free.My father told me you get what you pay for. This is the best.I still have enough left for the next invasion of ants.

Good money spent!
By Katherine on October 10, 2012I tried some ant products from my local stores...nothing worked! I should of came to domyownpestcontrol first. I am very satisfied with both products, but I wish the kit came with a larger bottle of Advance. I saw more results with the advance alone. I have seen a big knock down in the ant population in my yard...I think one more application should get rid of them for good. Thanks DMOPC!

100% Success
By Robd on October 4, 2012I live in the middle of the California central coast Argentine ant super colony, which stretches 500+ miles through central California. You cannot look in any direction while outside and not see some of these ants. They are literally everywhere. I was constantly finding them invading my home, virtually from every direction. I'd spot spray inside, and they would pop up somewhere else. Enter Do My Own Pest Control. I now use a two prong approach. I now use Termidor SC as a perimeter spray, and these bait stations to go after any ants that break through the perimeter. The spray mostly keeps the ants away. But, when it starts to wear off, I get new incursions into my home. So far, I've able to find the point of entry and put a single bait station, loaded with both baits, outside my home, at the entry point, and completely wipe out the invaders. Since Termidor is non-repellent, I can use the bait stations right in the perimeter spray band with no problems. This technique has given me 100% success. I couldn't be happier with these products. My particular ants like the gel bait about 5:1 compared to the granular bait so far. I keep using both. Given enough time, the ants will eat all of both baits.

success with ant kit
By Jeff on October 2, 2012The Complete Ant Kit got rid of a very bad ant problem in three to four days. Wonderful! My only nit to pick is that more detailed instructions should have been mailed with the kit. A phone call to the company the next day clarified how the bait traps were to be filled: only gel in the bait trap, granular on the exterior of the house loosely sprinkled; the web site shows both products in the bait trap but this for a different pest control issue. There is no instructional video for the Complete Ant Kit.

April 4, 2010Chris asked:
QWill this ant kit work for sugar ants?
Does this work on "sugar ants" - tiny black ants that seem to swarm on crumbs or other food items in my kitchen. I cannot tell where they are coming from. If this isn't right for them what is?
AOur complete ant kit is perfect for sugar ants, or argentine ants which is what their real name is. Usually you cannot tell where the nest is which is why the baits in our kit is what you should use. The ants will eat the products in the complete ant kit and take them back to wherever their colony is and feed the bait to the queen and all of the other colony members. Usually within 5 - 10 days the entire colony will be eliminated. The optigard ant gel is for placement inside the home, and the Advance 375A granule is meant for outside around the home. However, since our kit comes with bait plate stations, you can place both the gel and the granules in the bait plate stations so the ants inside the home have a choice when feeding.
July 17, 2010Roger asked:
QWhy do ants keep returning to one location?
I am using your Complete Ant Kit. After treatment (three days), the ants are gone, and there has not been any activity for two to three weeks. They returned back one day in large amounts. This is the fourth time. Three other locations in house took one treatment and never returned.
AAnt baits will get rid of the ant colony that is currently in the area, but they will not prevent new ant colonies from moving in. We recommend treating around the outside of your home with a residual insecticide such Talstar P to help eliminate new ant colonies as they try to move into the old ant colonies territory.
September 13, 2011Joe from Anaheimhills Ca asked:
QHow can I tell what kind of ants are in my house?
AYou usually cannot tell with the naked eye, but the most common ants in a house are Argentine ants, which are small, trailing ants. If the ants are trailing one another and you know where they are you can perform a test. You can place a spoonful of peanut butter and a spoonful of jelly on a piece of paper or tin foil and see which one they go after. If they eat one of them, then we can suggest a bait that would work. Peanut butter is a protein, and jelly is a sugar based product. We have protein and sugar based baits that will work. If the ants are larger and only seen one at a time randomly, than these might be carpenter ants. Either way, you cannot go wrong with our complete ant kit, which contains both sugar and protein baits. Place both out where you see activity and give the ants a choice and it should work.
October 20, 2011Beth from Corona, Ca asked:
QWill the Complete Ant Kit be enough for the average size single family home?
AThe Complete Ant Kit comes with enough product to treat the average house a couple of times. The Advance 375A Select Granular Ant Bait will cover roughly 1/2 an acre when used as directed on the product label. The Optigard Ant Bait gel comes with four tubes which is plenty to do the initial application and several follow up applications.
November 15, 2011Kimberly from Alexandria, Va asked:
QWill Eco PCO WP-X be a suitable residual product for controlling ants in addition to these baits?
I've had ants (look like odorous or sugar ants) coming in various spots in my home. I've located the areas along the house foundation outside where they are trailing from and treated with the Maxforce baits (granules and gels) and these Optigard/Advance baits for months. The trailing stops but the ants return day/weeks later. Not sure why they keep coming into the house, they have not found food for months and there are only one or two at a time, wandering aimlessly, though the baits outside do attract a dozen or so until they die off, then they appear in the house again and the cycle repeats. From your materials looks like new ant colonies could be moving in, and you recommend spraying something around the home perimeter. I was hoping for something not so toxic, and wondered about the Eco PCO WP-X for this. If not, what else would you recommend? I have a dog and practice organic gardening so was trying to stay away from toxic products, but am desperate to rid us of these ants.
AEco Pco WP-X can be used as a residual spray outdoors for ant control. Any ants that cross over the treated areas will be eliminated but the residual will not spread back to the colony. You should also take a close look at the area that seems to get invaded so often to determine what exactly is bringing the ants to that particular area. Is there a high level of moisture? Is there a mulched flower bed? Plants nearby that could be hosts to aphids? Please take a few minutes to read our article Integrated Pest Management to learn more about taking a holistic approach to pest control. Pest control should not equal pesticides alone. There are many things you can do to make your property less favorable to pest insects. You can also read Ant Prevention Quick Tips and How to Get rid of Odorous House Ants to learn more about ant control.
April 26, 2010Marilyn asked:
QHow can I get rid of ants coming from my heating vents?
A We recommend baiting near the heating vent. We offer the Complete Ant Kit that contains everything you need to bait for ants, Advance 375A a protein based bait, Optigard Ant Bait Gel a carbohydrate based bait and 12 bait stations to keep the bait fresh and in place. The ants will eat the bait and carry it bait to the nest, eventually eliminating the colony. We do not recommend spraying insecticide into the heat vent.
June 2, 2010Scott asked:
QWhat products will kill carpenter ants?
Will this kill them? Actually can you advise what kinds of species this will kill. I live in Florida and I am not sure what kind of ants I have.
AThe Complete Ant Kit contains Advance 375A Ant Bait Granules which is labeled for all ants and the Optigard Ant Bait Gel which is labeled for all ants except fire, harvester and Pharaoh ants. We also have Carpenter Ant Kits available that come with products that are specifically geared towards carpenter ants. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office to enquire about the ant species in your region.
September 2, 2011Danny from Houston Texas asked:
QWill this work on indoor Fire Ants?
AThe Advance 375A Ant Bait Granule in this kit is labeled for fire ant control but the Optigard Ant Bait Gel is not labeled for fire ants. Most baits that are labeled for fire ants are going to be granules because this type of ant tends to feed more on protein based baits. You can see the other products that we carry that are labeled for fire ants by clicking here: FIRE ANT CONTROL PRODUCTS.
February 16, 2012Deb from Woodland, Ut asked:
QWhich is the best product for killing flying ants? I don't know where they're coming from.
AFlying ants are just regular ants that are leaving to start a new colony. Indoors these ants will not be able to complete their mission to start a new colony and will soon die on their own. If they are a nuisance to you, you can use pyrethrin aerosol such as Microcare to knock them down. If indeed you do have flying ants indoors this could also mean that you have an ant colony in a wall void of in some other inaccessible area indoors. You could try to put a little peanut butter and a little honey on a piece of foil near where you are seeing ant activity to see if they will start trailing. If they do form a trail this could point to where they are nesting. You will also be able to switch out the peanut butter and honey for ant bait which in turn will eliminate the nesting ants.
July 6, 2012Elizabeth from Brownsville, Tx asked:
QI think I have Pharoah ants in the kitchen and bathrooms. What products would work best?
I have been thinking about getting the maxforce baits but I am concerned that they will not take the bait.
AWe would suggest our complete ant kit which contains both a sugar based gel bait and a protein based granular bait. You should always place both types out because the ants will be in the mood for either a sugar or protein bait.
August 2, 2012Gary from Cashiers, Nc asked:
Qwill complete kit kill large black ants?
the black ants are about the size of red ants.
Not small - like fire ants.
i hired a bug company who told me the black ants were NOT carpenter - exterminator company not successful.
Ants are inside & out. Home in N.C. - Blue Ridge Mts.
AWe recommend that you fist check to see if the ants will take a bait. You can do this by doing a test called the "Peanut butter and Honey" test. Simply put a dab of honey on one end of an index card and a dab of peanut butter on the other end and set the card near an area where there has been ant activity. If the ants seem to be attracted to the peanut butter and honey then baiting with the kit should be successful. If you do have a species of ant that doesn't accept bait you can always use a product such as Termidor SC. Termidor SC is a non-repellent product that is picked up on the fine hairs of an ants body and then inadvertently spread through the ant colony by normal social interaction. Most people notice that the entire ant infestation is gone in 1-3 weeks. The only downside to Termidor SC is that it is an outdoor only product. If you need to treat indoors you can use Phantom. Phantom is a lot like the Termidor but it does take a little bit longer to see results and it can be used indoors.
