Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Crabgrass Inspection Guide

Learn How To Tell If You Have Crabgrass

By DoMyOwn staff
Overview

Check The Right Areas At The Right Time

While it might seem like crabgrass is everywhere all the time, it grows better in certain areas of your lawn than others, and thrives at different times in the year versus other weeds.

Inspecting your lawn in the right areas at the right time of year will help you pinpoint areas to treat your lawn so you can control crabgrass quickly and effectively.

Step 1

Look In The Right Areas

Where Does Crabgrass Grow?

It's best to focus your treatment on areas where crabgrass really thrives, which is in full sun. The seedlings need sun to grow.

Crabgrass won't grow in the shade, so focus your attention on areas that receive plenty of sun and little shade.

Step 2

Inspect During Mid-Spring

The seeds of crabgrass begin to germinate in the early spring and will begin to grow mid spring. If you see full size grassy weeds in early spring, it is likely some other type of weed and not crabgrass.

Crabgrass really thrives in the heat of the summer, and you will notice it more at this time of year. If you have a cool-season lawn, your lawn will be growing slowly in the high heat of summer, so you will really be able to notice crabgrass thriving in your turf.
