    Q
What is the shelf life of the Dekko Silverfish Packs?
I've seen that the packs usually last 4 months once laid out but I recently found a box of packs in a closet. I'm not sure how long they have been in there, maybe up to 4 years. Would these baits still be good? Thanks!
    A
According to the manufacturer, as long as they stay dry, Dekko Silverfish paks will remain effective indefinitely.

    Q
My dog chewed on a Dekko Silverfish Pack, what should i do?
    A

Any time a pet eats any type of insecticide you should contact your veterinarian. Be sure to have the product label ready as the veterinarian will need to know what ingredients were ingested by your pet. We always have all of the product labels available on our site for your convenience. Boric Acid, the active ingredient in the Dekko silverfish paks,  has a low acute toxicity. Small amounts e.g., a teaspoon) swallowed accidentally are not likely to cause effects but you should still check with your vet.

    Q
Will silverfish eat drywall paper and tape?
I have one wall in the bedroom between a corner and a window that the tape joints have deteriorated and when I chipped at them with my finger a silverfish came out. What happens to the silverfish after they eat the Dekko Silverfish pack?
    A
Silverfish are known to eat the adhesive that is used on tape and on the drywall paper. The Dekko Silverfish Packs are formulated with the active ingredient boric acid. While Dekko is safe to use around people and pets, it is deadly to insects and soon after the silverfish ingest the boric acid they will die.

    Q
How long before we should dispose of old silverfish packets?
How do i know when i need to throw out old packets? Will the packet look eaten through and is that when they should be thrown out?
    A

Dekko Silverfish packs will remain effective indefinitely.  When you take the packs out of the box to use in your home, they are good for 3 to 4 months or less depending on the level of infestation and how quickly they are eaten into.  They should be replaced every 3 to 4 months whether they looked used or not.

    Q
Is it safe to place Dekko Silverfish Packs in air vents?
    A
We would not suggest placing Dekko Silverfish Packs inside air vents.  It is not permissible on the product label to place the packs in vents, but normally that would not be a hiding place for silverfish anyways.  Normal harborage areas for silverfish are closets, drawers, bookcases, basements, garages and other dark hidden places.

    Q
Aren't the packs too thin for a silverfish to get inside to eat?
Up for a middle of the night bathroom visit, I saw an adult silverfish next to one of the Dekko Silverfish packs that we had just put out. It appeared to crawl away rather than eat the bait. The size of the silverfish looked bigger than the room between the top and bottom of the pack. Will the packs still work with larger adult silverfish?
    A
The Dekko Silverfish packs are plenty big for all silverfish. It probably got spooked because you were in the bathroom. The manufacturer assured us it is effective for all sizes of silverfish.

    Q
I see a lot of silverfish in my bathroom?
Now after reading the reviews, I realize that I have very old wallpaper in my bathroom, so this means that the silverfish are feeding it. Should I remove all the wallpaper?
    A
Silverfish normally live outdoors under rocks, bark, and leaves. When silverfish are found indoors, they prefer moist places such as basements, bathtubs, laundry rooms, sinks and kitchens. However, they may also be found near food sources including book shelves, behind baseboards and wallpaper, and around window and door frames. We recommend treating your home with our Get Rid of Silverfish Kit. We cannot tell you to remove the wallpaper nor can we tell you to keep it. We can only give pest control advice and product recommendations. They will eat the wallpaper glue and they do eat paper. If it is heavily damaged it can be removed.

    Q
Where to the silverfish go after they eat the bait? Are there carcasses to pick up?
    A
After eating the Dekko Silverfish packs, depending on how much they consume, they will die in various places. It is possible to have carcasses to pick up, but you may not have any. They could go into wall voids or die in the middle of the floor. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Q
Are Dekko Silverfish Paks safe for kitchen cabinets where dishes are stored?
My concern is does the silverfish die inside the pack once he has ingested the poison or would there be danger of the silverfish coming out of the pack and spreading the poison onto my dishes as he crawls around before hopefully dying.
    A
The silverfish eat the bait on the Dekko Silverfish Pak and then they are free to move on. Dekko paks are not "traps" they are just bait. We recommend that you use insect glue boards in your cabinets if you are worried that the silverfish may eat the bait and then touch your dishes. Glue boards that are placed in cabinets directly into the travel path of insects are highly effective.

    Q
Are the Dekko Silverfish Packs safe to use in kitchen cabinets around dishes?
    A

Yes, the Dekko Silverfish Packs do not release or emit any type of chemical into the air or the surrounding area, so it is perfectly safe to place these in any drawer or cabinet, even if there are food dishes in the area.  You would just want to make sure that the pack was placed in the corner of the cabinet, and didn't have a chance of somehow falling in any food that was going to be eaten.

    Q
How many Dekko Silverfish packs should I place out?
We've had a very hot and humid summer this year and I have recently found a handful of silverfish in my apartment. I found 1 large one under my bed (almost thought it was a mouse), and then at least 3-4 more in my bedroom. I am most likely overreacting but I have placed 10 Dekko packs in my room. I would like to know if that is harmful to me, if I should use less, or if it's ok?
    A

You should apply 2-3 Dekko Silverfish Packs per infested area per the product label instructions.

    Q
Have Silverfish from attic to basement, and have 5 cats. What to use?
Have boxes of paper files. Need help.
    A
Please review our Silverfish Control page. We recommend since you have cats to use a product like Suspend SC. Suspend SC leaves a clear residual on surfaces that keeps on killing pests for up to 3 months. You can use this product indoors along cracks and crevices and outdoors 2-3 feet up and out all the way around the perimeter of the structure. This product is safe for people and pets to be around after it has dried. For your attic, a lot of folks like to use the Dekko Silverfish Traps.

    Q
Do the Dekko Silverfish Packs work for firebrats?
    A
Although the Dekko Silverfish Packs are labeled for firebrats, typically a spray will work better for firebrats than a bait.  We would recommend treating with Cy-Kick aerosol because it is safe to use around children and pets, yet still very effective.  It leaves a residual so it will kill long after it dries.  Direct the spray underneath and behind appliances and in cracks and crevices like baseboards and where pipes go into the wall underneath sinks and behind toilets.

    Q
Can I use the Dekko Silverfish Packs outdoors?
    A
Dekko Silverfish Packs are intended for dark indoor spaces where silverfish hide. We recommend using a liquid insecticide such as Bifen IT for an indoor crack and crevice application and outdoor exterior treatment of silverfish. Both products are included in our Get Rid of Silverfish Kit that also includes a bait granular.

    Q
What should I do if I have laid silverfish packs out in many areas of my house but none have been eaten?
I laid the traps a week ago and have seen three silverfish since then. I am worried the silverfish are not attracted to them. What should I do? They are in drawers, bookshelves and closets. All areas where I have seen silverfish.
    A

We apologize that you are not seeing the results expected. It could take up to 4 weeks for the Dekko Silverfish Packs to work as intended. They can be used inside of losets, drawers, bookcases, basements, garages and other dark hidden places. Don’t open or crush individual packages. Silverfish show up most often in dark, dry areas. Place 2 or 3 packs in each infested area or location where silverfish might show up. In addition to drawers, closets, bookcases, basements and garages, use these packs in the attic and under the house. They will solve your silverfish problems quickly. If you don’t have the critters – and most folks do but don’t know it until the numbers get really large – Dekko Silverfish Packs will insure you don’t get the problem. An ounce or 2 of prevention is worth many pounds of aggravation.

    Q
Do Dekko Silverfish Packs actually keep drawing more silverfish in?
Because you say you have to keep putting more packs out every 3-4 months, I don't want to attract more.
    A

Yes, the Dekko Silverfish Packs will attract silverfish. Once you have taken care of the issue, we would recommend discarding the packs that are out and keeping the additional packets in a secure location.

    Q
Is it normal to see more silverfish after putting out Dekko Silverfish Packs?
I usually see one ore two of them per week but today late at night saw three of them in the bathroom. Is this normal? Or did I place it wrong?
    A

Dekko Silverfish Packs are designed to appeal to a silverfish’s appetite for paper and glue, so any that may be in the area where you have placed the packs, can certainly be attracted to it, so you may see them as they go to the traps to feed.
