How Demon WP Insecticide Works
Demon WP is a residual insecticide concentrate with the active ingredient Cypermethrin. Cypermethrin is in the synthetic pyrethroid class of insecticides. It is a man-made active ingredient that attacks the central nervous system of insects that come in contact with or ingest it. Demon WP is diluted with water and applied with a gallon pump sprayer. After it dries, Demon WP continues to work for up to 3 months.
Demon WP Target Pests
A variety of crawling and flying pests including (but not limited to) ants, boxelder bugs, cockroaches, crickets, earwigs, scorpions, spiders, and wasps
PESTS CONTROLLED WITH THIS PRODUCT: Ants, Aphids, Assassin Bugs, Bees, Boxelder Bugs, California Oakworm, Carpenter Ants, Carpenter Bees, Centipedes, Chiggers, Chinch Bugs, Cluster Flies, Cockroaches, Crickets, Earwigs, Elm Leaf Beetle, Fire Ants (Mounds), Firebrats, Fleas, Flies, Millipedes, Mites, Mosquitoes, Pillbugs, Scorpions, Silverfish, Sod Webworms, Sowbugs, Spiders, Termites (above ground only), Ticks, Wasps
Target Uses of Demon WP
Demon WP (Water-soluble Packets) Insecticide is for crack and crevice and/or spot applications for residual and contact control of Ants, Carpenter Ants, Cockroaches, Crickets, Spiders and certain other insect pests. The Demon WP water-soluble packets make mixing and use very easy when used with a 1 gallon compressed air sprayer. (See our selection of sprayers in our Sprayers section).
Demon WP (Wettable Powder) is excellent for larger, tougher pests such as cockroaches, spiders, scorpions, or stink bugs because there is a high concentration of active ingredient. Demon WP is labeled for a wide variety of pests, however, making it an extremely popular general use insecticide for perimeter treatments outdoors or crack and crevice treatments indoors.
The wettable powder formulation also makes Demon WP ideal for porous surfaces such as concrete since the individual particles of active ingredient are larger and can more easily stay on top of the surface.
Demon WP leaves a white powdery film that may be visible on darker surfaces. For applications where this is a concern, consider using a liquid concentrate instead.
Demon WP Insecticide Application Instructions
Each foil envelope of Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packets contains four water-soluble packets of Demon wettable powder (WP). The foil envelope must be opened for use. Because water-soluble packets readily dissolve in the presence of moisture, do not allow them to get wet before adding to the applicator tank.
Wear dry gloves when handling the water-soluble packets. Handle with care because excessive handling may cause rupture of the water-soluble packet. Unused water-soluble packets should be stored in the original foil envelope, folded over to minimize exposure to moisture.
Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packets are intended for dilution with water for applications. For best results, dilution should be achieved if the following steps are taken:
- Fill applicator tank 1/2 with water.
- Add desired Demon WP Insecticide in Water-Soluble Packet(s).
- Allow 1-2 minutes for dissolution of water-soluble packet(s).
- Agitate, stir or shake applicator tank.
- Finish filling applicator tank and agitate again before use to ensure satisfactory suspension.
- Upon standing without agitation for more than 1 hr., the applicator tank should be agitated, stirred or shaken again to achieve satisfactory suspension.
- Make up only amount of application volume as required.
- This product should not be applied with oil.
Demon WP in Water-Soluble Packets may be tank mixed with other currently registered pesticides unless expressly prohibited by the product label. A small volume mixing test with the other products is recommended to ensure compatibility. Observe all restrictions and precautions which appear on the labels of these products.
* Repeat treatments as necessary, but not more than once every 7 days.
Always read the product label completely before use.
1 envelope contains 4 water-soluble packets and makes 2-4 gallons of finished solution.
Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Demon WP:
* 1 packet or 1 scoop (0.33 oz.)/gal. of water – 0.1% – maintenance, more frequent applications, foliar applications
* 2 packets or 2 scoops (0.66 oz.)/gal. of water – 0.2% -- clean-out, severe infestations, exterior applications which receive greater direct sunlight, scorpions
* For Perimeter Barrier Applications around Structures – Mix 1-2 scoops of Demon WP in 1-5 gallons of water to cover 800-1600 square feet. Higher volumes may be needed for dense vegetation or landscaping materials.
* 1 scoop is the equivalent of 0.33 oz., 9.5 gm., or 2 level tablespoons
Demon WP is for use in the following areas:
Demon WP is for crack and crevice or spot treatment for residual and contact pest control in, on and around buildings and structures and their immediate surroundings and on modes of transport. Permitted areas of use include, but are not limited to, industrial buildings, houses, apartment buildings, laboratories, buses, greenhouses and the nonfood/feed areas of stores, warehouses, vessels, railcars, trucks, trailers, aircraft (cargo and noncabin areas only), schools, nursing homes, hospitals (non-patient areas), restaurants, hotels and motels, and food manufacturing, processing and servicing establishments, food granaries, food grain mills, and pet kennels. Demon WP is also for use on lawns, ornamental trees and shrubs around residential, institutional, public, commercial, agricultural and industrial buildings, and parks, recreational areas and athletic fields.
Demon WP Authorized by the USDA for use in inedible product areas in Federally inspected meat, poultry and egg processing plants.
See above for complete mixing instructions.
Cockroaches, Spiders, Crickets, Scorpions, Silverfish, Ticks and Firebrats
Apply as a coarse, low pressure treatment to areas where these pests hide, such as baseboards, corners, storage areas, closets, around water pipes, doors and windows, attics and eaves, cabinets, sinks, furnaces, stoves, behind and under refrigerators, the underside of shelves, drawers and similar areas. Pay particular attention to cracks and crevices; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.
Apply Demon WP to any trails, around doors and windows and similar areas where ants (including carpenter ants) may be found. Apply perimeter barrier treatments to prevent infestation as described below; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.
Bees, Carpenter Bees and Wasps
Thoroughly treat nest and entrance, surfaces and surrounding areas with Demon WP where these insects alight; also see Outdoor Surface Use on the product label.
Assassin Bugs, Boxelder Bugs, Sowbugs, Pillbugs, Millipedes, Elm Leaf Beetle and Centipedes
Apply around doors and windows and similar areas where these, or similar perimeter pests, may be found or where they may enter premises. Apply to baseboards, storage areas, and other locations.
See above for complete mixing instructions.
For Perimeter Barrier Treatments
To help prevent infestation of buildings, apply to a band of soil and vegetation 6-10 ft. wide around and adjacent to the building. Also, treat the building foundation to a height of 2-3 ft. where pests are active and may find entrance. Apply as a coarse spray treatment to thoroughly and uniformly wet the foundation and/or band area, using 1-5 gals. of treatment solution applied to 800-1600 sq. ft.
Apply with either hand-held or power application equipment as a residual spray to surfaces of buildings, porches, screens, window frames, eaves, patios, lawns, refuse dumps, garages and other similar areas where these pests are found. Also, may be used as a spot treatment in applications to lawns in landscaped areas in and around residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings, and similar areas where these insect pests are active.
Fire Ants (Mounds)
For individual fire ant mounds, apply Demon WP as a drench. Gently sprinkle a total of one gallon over the surface of mounds up to 12 inches in diameter. Use 2 gallons for larger mounds. Thoroughly wet mound and surrounding area. Treat new mounds as they appear. Pressurized sprays may disturb the ants and cause migration. If possible, applications should be made on warm days after recent rainfall. All colonies in the vicinity should be treated, including those that have not yet constructed a mound.
Treat and remove accumulations of lumber, firewood and other materials that serve as harborage sites. Apply as a coarse spray treatment to the point of drip.
* Demon WP is not appropriate for applications using a hose-end sprayer.
* See product label for complete outdoor application instructions.

Excellent product. I have been using Demon WP Insecticide for MANY years mostly for exterior barrier treatment and in and around garages. I was very impressed. I will never forget the first time I used this product. I sprayed a heavy line in front of our 3 car garage which was getting bombarded by all kinds of crawling insects. It created about a 10-12" line on a hot & sunny day and it dried very quickly. I did it a second time thinking it evaporated, again it dried within a few mins. Came home from work the next day and a solid line of dead bugs exactly where I sprayed. Was as if it was an invisible electric fence. At this point I was sold on this and nothing else. I have continued to use it for years without fail. I found it lasts quite a while but depends on how much direct rain the treated surface area gets. Recommend 100%

"It just works" says it all. I have been using Demon WP Insecticide for 10 years. Forget what you read about multiple applications per year. Maybe outside, but inside, unless you wash or vacuum it away, it lasts forever. I haven't used it in 2 years indoors and it's still killing. I thought, after two years, though, another application couldn't hurt. The first time you use it, when you wake up the next morning, you will be in awe of the dead insects in your house. Just do every base board, even in cabinets and closets and every threshold into your house, garage, carport, etc...threshold exteriors need to be repeated if exposed to the elements. This stuff is the last word in pest control. Don't waste your money on supermarket and building supply store junk and pest control companies that come out and use this same stuff, and bill you $250.

This stuff is awesome!
By Kevin on 08/28/2007
I have 2 large dogs in my house. Had fleas really bad. I tried every type of bug bomb- Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart had and it seemed like they multiplied. My parents turned me on to this product Demon WP. I sprayed my baseboards, windows, doors, weep holes in the brick, the entire perimeter of the house, the soffit on the house, and the perimeter of my yard. After all that, I still had 2 pouches left, so I went ahead and sprayed my lawn. I have not seen another live bug in the house for 2 years. I may not have applied it the way I'm supposed to, but this stuff is awesome. Highly recommended.

Try this product!

Great product!! I've been using this product for 2 years and living by the ocean, we have our fair share of palmetto bugs, roaches and every crawly bug known to man. Demon WP keeps the house insect-free and considering I have a bug phobia, this means a great deal knowing that there aren't any unwelcome pests crawling around our home. Anyone having a problem with bugs should try this product...you'll be glad you did!!

One month after we moved into our home we started to realize we had a serious problem with spiders, particularly Brown Recluses. Most other spiders died relatively quickly using average over the counter pest control measures, but the Brown Recluse was particularly resilient. After some scary moments and worthwhile research I decided to give Demon WP a try. I prepared the mix and applied the spray directly to a spider and was expecting to see it die within 1-2 seconds and although it didn't immediately kill it, it was dead within 20 minutes. I applied this product in the house, the crawlspace, the exterior of the home and I couln't be happier! I have found many dead Brown Recluses. I used sticky traps to monitor movement and they have stayed clean. This product is fantastic and is definitely effective at ridding your home of Brown Recluses and protecting your family!

Bye Bye Roaches
By John in Bakersfield, CA on 08/27/2010
Best product I have used to date. One application ended the Roach infestation we have suffered for years. Originally I balked at the price, however the end results well justified the cost. Unit was ordered and received in about 6 days. Superior rating in my book.

My mom owns a house out in the Texas HillCountry that has become somewhat of a weekend home and never had anyone truly live in it. When anyone had the time to go to the house it was expected to find at least 3 scorpions in the house. And during a weekend visit, we'd probably kill at least three more just inside the house. One even fell off the ceiling while we were having coffee and landing right in the center of the table. They thrive at this property, almost literally in every nook and crany both inside and out. I was referred to a different product on this site but reseached more and felt the Demon was better suited to our scorpion infestation. It worked! It took two batches to saturate the indicated areas on the outside of the house and I did not even spray the inside. Over the course of a week I found only two scorpions inside and one was already dead and the other dying. TRIUMPH! It's been another week since I've been at the house so I am curious to see how it is doing over the course of some passed time. I will update after a couple of months as the treatment says it should not be necessary but about once every 3 months. The only downfall is that with any poison you do end up killing other bugs you may not want to. There literally was bug carnage along the perimeter I created on the patio...everything from locusts, cave crickets, spiders but I was sad to have killed two rather impressively large stick bugs.

Greak knockdown and residual power
By Michael on 06/25/2010
This product has been an industry standard for many years. Roaches don't have a chance against this product when properly applied. It works great on spiders as well as most household pests. Because it is a wettable powder (WP) it will stay on surfaces much longer than a liquid product. Another great feature of this product is safety. A human would need to consume several liters of this mixed product to be fatal. When applying this product to the exterior of a home be sure to cover the area around windows, the eaves (for spiders) and the base of the home. This will kill the majority of pest before they enter the home and the residual power of this product will hold up over a month outside. In some applications the residual power can even hold up for a year. A 1lb jar could easily treat a standard home for 3-10 years. Much cheaper per year than almost any hardware store product. NOTE: If you apply this product to dark surfaces you will get white powder that is very visible and can be hard to remove.

Long time users
By Patty in Zachary, LA on 04/10/2009
We have been using Demon WP for about 30 years. We hit a slump with kids and business draining us and couldn't afford the luxury of Demon and used some less expensive products. Yuck! They would work a little bit, wear out soon with a residual of about 6 weeks. With our kids grown and gone now, we have decided to go back to Demon. The real residual effect is more like 6 months and the day after we spray we find roaches sleeping the eternal sleep all over the house. Upside down, if you know what I mean. It's a wonderful product and I recommend it to anyone who asks.

Demon WP Insecticide powder works wonders for controlling bugs outside, and you don't have to spray chemicals inside your house. Very pleased, been using it for 4 years!

Demon WP does the best job killing roaches with the fastest knock-down I have ever seen . However, for spiders it doesn't fair so well in my opinion. Only complaint is it leaves a slight stain on wooden floors and baseboards . It keeps killing a long time so re-spraying is only like 4 or 5 times a year . That itself will save you a bundle of money on exterminators.

I sprayed this Demon insecticide in closets, under cabinets, appliances and outside of the house. I see a lot of dead bugs now and no live ones. It even killed a few spiders and other bugs outside the house. It is easy to use with a pump sprayer . I would highly recommend it to everyone . Thanks and I will buy again .

Forget the exterminator!
By Jake on 07/11/2007
I had just put on Demon WP inside and outside my house to control earwigs and roaches, a day later I saw a few dead roaches in my garage and a few outside along with a Black Widow! I didn't even know I had those. I feel a bit safer knowing that my 2 year old, 3 month old, and small dog should be safe. Well, I don't know about my 2 year old. He's in everything ;) The local pest control service wanted 50 dollars a month to get rid of bugs or 150 for a one time application. For 15 dollars and 4 treatments that probably will work better anyway. Forget the exterminator :)

Awesome product. I've used it for over 10 years in my office and now in my home on 5 acres. It, along with a once over my immediate yard with insect granules in the spring, limits the outside cockroach problem to only a few stragglers a year due to open doors and/or windows. I spray the base boards and the perimeter of the house each year and we're covered. In this part of Texas where its hot and humid, Demon WP is a tremendous relief. Thanks!

Ask our product experts...
Ask a Question
QIs Demon WP children safe when sprayed inside the home?
ADemon WP is safe to use around children and pets when mixed and used correctly. With most professional products such as Demon WP, once you mix it with water it is only strong enough to kill small insects. You should always keep children and pets away from where you are treating. Once the product has time to dry which usually only takes 30 minutes, it is safe for children and pets to re-enter the room. Of course you should always keep any pesticide or cleaning product out of reach of children.
QIf you don't use the Demon WP mixed with water, will it still be good to use later?
QCan Demon WP be sprayed on the outside of a home and still be effective?
A Demon WP is labeled for both indoor and outdoor use. Apply Demon WP to exterior door frames, window frames, places where utilities (cables pipes and wires) enter into the structure, eaves, soffits, around the bottom of the foundation and out onto the ground several feet. If you have an existing insect infestation, you may also need to spray indoors around the door frames, window frames, places where utilities (cables, pipes and wires) enter into the structure and around the baseboards. Demon WP will last for about 4 weeks outdoors and about 12 weeks indoors.

QWhat is the difference between Demon WP and Demon MAX?
ADemon Max is made by the same company that makes Demon WP and they both contain the same active ingredient. The main difference is Demon Max is more intended for use as a termiticide to treat and protect homes against termites. Demon WP is more for insect control inside and outside homes.
QHow toxic is Demon WP to fish and dogs?
I have a pond with catfish approx. 50 yards from my house and during hard rains water runs off form the house area into the pond. I'm having a big problem with scorpions.
A Demon WP is not a problem to use around pets as long as you apply it according to the product label. Once Demon WP is mixed with water, it is only strong enough to kill small insects. You would not want to leave the jar of Demon WP open where dogs could get into a large quantity of it. It is always a good idea to keep pets and children out of the area while you are treating. Once the product dries, usually after 30 minutes, it is perfectly fine to allow pets and children back in the area. However, all pesticides are very dangerous to fish and aquatic life. You would not want to use Demon WP or any other pesticide near a body of water. 50 yards away is a good distance, but if the land sloped down towards the pond, then there may be a concern. If it does not, it should not be a problem to treat around your home that is 50 yards away from the pond.

QDoes Demon WP kill bed bugs and eggs?
I'm wondering if this product will kill bed bugs I recently purchasedd a rv and it is infested with bed bugs I've tried everything nothing works. If so how often should I apply it and how long it will take for them to die
ADemon WP is not labeled for bedbugs. We offer bedbug kits that contain all of the different products you need to eliminate bedbugs and re-treatments should be done every 7-10 days until you do not receive a bite for 30 days. We also highly recommend using mattress and boxspring encasements to help eliminate bedbug infestations. These bedbug proof covers will trap existing bedbugs and eliminate hiding places and make inspections easier. Please see our How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs page learn more about eliminating bedbugs.

QWhat is the shelf life of Demon WP - 1 Lb Jar? Is it longer than the envelopes of Demon WP?
ABoth the Demon WP 1 lb jar and the Demon WP envelopes should be used within 3 years of the date of purchase.
QWill Demon WP work on wasps and yellow jackets?
ADemon WP will kill wasps and yellow jackets as long as you apply it to a place where they will come into contact with it. If you know where they are going in and out of their nest, you can treat that area directly in the early morning or late evening when they are not active. If you do not know where the nest is then they can only be affected if they land on a surface that you treat.
QDoes Demon WP work to help get rid of or kill scorpions?
AYes! Demon WP is one of the most popular scorpion products on the market. Demon WP will kill scorpions that come into contact with treated areas plus it will kill the other insects that are around your home which is why the scorpions are there to start with.
QWill directly spraying a black widow with Demon WP kill it?
AYes, Demon WP will kill black widow spiders. You should note that Demon WP does not have a fast knock down and any insect sprayed directly with the product can continue to live for several hours.
QHow long does Demon WP take to kill German roaches?
I have been spraying Demon WP (every weekend) for a month now. There are less and less roaches. Now, I am just wondering how it works on them. Are they still able to lay eggs?
AYou should not need to spray indoors more than once a month for roach control if you are using Demon WP. Using Demon WP alone will not stop roaches from breeding and laying eggs. We recommend that you use an IGR (insect growth regulator) such as Gentrol to help stop juvenile roaches from reaching sexual maturity. We also recommend that you use a roach bait gel such as Advion Roach Bait Gel in cabinets, around counter tops, in drawers and around appliances to get rid of the roaches that hide in places that cannot be sprayed. By using all three products together, you will have a roach control program that will effectively get rid of your roach infestation. We offer all three products together in our Roach Control Kit #2. How long it will take to get rid of the infestation will depend on how heavy the infestation is and how good the sanitation is in your home. You can expect it to take 6 weeks to several months.
QWhat size house will one foil package of Demon WP do and how often should it be sprayed?
AEach Demon WP envelope comes with 4 water soluble packets, enough to make up to 4 gallons of diluted solution. Most homeowners use 1 gallon of diluted solution or less indoors and about 2 gallons outdoors per application . Depending on the insect you are trying to eliminate, you can spray once every 1-3 months. Please read the Demon WP product label to learn specific usage rates for the insect you are trying to eliminate.
QWill Demon WP clog up regular backpack sprayers - unless they have special diaphram pumps?
ANo, Demon WP will not plug up your sprayer, at least initially. You definitely have to mix wettable powders very well before applying it. You should fill the sprayer half way with water, scoop in the proper amount of product or drop in the Demon WP envelope, place the top on the sprayer and shake vigorously, then remove the top and fill the sprayer the rest of the way with water. The sprayer should work fine but you should only mix what you plan on using that day. Wettable powders will clog a sprayer when the solution is left in the sprayer overnight or for a long period of time. The powder will settle, become clumpy at the bottom of the sprayer, and will clog the sprayer when you try to re-use it. So only mix what you are going to use right then and you should have no problems.
QIs Demon WP effective against the Hobo spider?
We seem to have an epidemic of them in and around our home (and neighborhood). I have killed or "sticky trapped" about two dozen in the last two years. Specifically, will it "deter" them from entering the house?
AYes, Demon WP is one of the most effective insecticides on the market today and is labeled for almost all insects. The "WP" part in Demon WP stands for wettable powder, and wettable powders are what you want to use with spiders. Not only is this product very effective but it is still safe to use inside or outside and also safe if children or pets are present. Place a good, wide, barrier around the perimiter of your home and you will see a huge difference in the number of all insects you see around the home.
