Natural Guard Crawling Insect Control containing Diatomaceous Earth made from Amorphous DE fresh water type is a natural contact insecticide. Works by causing abrasions on insects as they come into contact with product or ingest it. This contact results in the loss of body fluids then dehydration. Insects cannot become immune to its action. Digestible by earthworms, thus causing them no harm. Very effective in controlling snails and slugs in bedding plant areas and around houses. Diatomaceous Earth is odorless, nonstaining and remains effective in the control of insects as long as the product is present. Diatomaceous Earth also has a highly repellent effect on most insects.

Double Whammo - Naturally!
By Bryan on May 23, 2011
This natural product is a home's best friend. It works best with the bellow duster, because it does not need much to control insects. I found this product far better than the big box store versions. The price-to-product ratio cannot be matched by any other natural-based product. When used properly (light dusting) in a 1800 sq ft house, this product lasts 2 years. What's more, is that this product is safe around children and pets.

I purchased this product, put it down in various places, including doorsill and so far, haven't seen a roach since. I basically wanted some protection against bedbugs entering my apartment from possibly others so since I have used this product, I feel confident that it is doing its job because I did have some roached before I used it and it beats usiing smelly sprays. I have told all of my friends about it especially the ones who own homes, I think it would be excellent for them. I highly recommend this to anyone.

The perfect DE size for the price
By Dollarseed on August 29, 2012
When I bought the 4 lb. bag, I was worried that I wouldn't have enough DE for the size of the project I needed it for. Using the bulb duster, not only did I get my project done, but did it with less than 1/2 lb. of DE. That included dusting my 5 raised beds for snails and slugs that are 32 sq. ft. each, my dog's 40 foot run and surrounding areas for fleas, and my seed room 9x12 for Indian Meal Moths. I have enough product left over to do these same areas at least 7 more times.

the good and the bad
By Big on July 24, 2012
DE is always a good product to use in an IPM oriented program. It's hard to find locally where I am and DMOPC almost always has what I am looking for. That's the good. The not so good is that I can find DE at other online venues for much lower price as the regular price than offered here. I went ahead and ordered it here this once out of convenience, but as I stock up on DE, I will likely buy it elsewhere based on price comparison.

March 25, 2011 Debi asked:
QDoes Diatomaceous Earth kill brown recluses?
ADiatomaceous Earth will kill spiders (including brown recluse spiders), but it works over a period of several days and will not provide a fast knockdown. Diatomaceous Earth will also kill most other insects that come into contact with treated areas which will eliminate the spiders food source. By eliminating the spiders food source, existing spiders will move or starve to death (even if they do not come into contact with treated areas) and new spiders will not move in.
April 6, 2011 Rose asked:
QIs this food grade? Can I ingest the Diatomaceous Earth?
Wanting to know if safe for ingestion for health benefits?
AAbsolutely not. This product is insecticide grade DE made from fresh water diatoms and it is not for consumption by anyone.
May 3, 2011 Janet asked:
QDoes Diatomaceous Earth 85% work well on fleas and ticks in the house?
We take care of several Feral Cats and have approximately 11 in house and a dog. We have been using another product for sometime but it seems to not be working anymore. We need help fast and something that will not harm our indoor animals. Thank you for your time, Janet
ADiatomaceous Earth is labeled for fleas and other crawling insects and will definitely help but because it is slow acting you will most likely need to treat with another product first to help get the flea and ticks under control. DE takes about a week to kill an insect and in that time the insects can continue to bite, breed and lay eggs. We would recommend that you treat with a product such as Precor 2000 which will give you a fast knockdown of the biting adults and residual control of the developing fleas and ticks. It is very important to vacuum immediately before the treatment and every day or every other day for the following 14 days. At the end of the 14 day period you will most likely need to re-treat to get rid of any stragglers. You must also treat all of your animals with an approved flea/tick product so that you are not re-infesting the house. Precor 2000 is safe to use in a house with pets as long as you follow the product label. All pets should be out of the area that is being treated and they can return as soon as the area is dry.

Shannon from Alma, Arkansas asked:
QHow long will Diatomaceous Earth take to kill roaches?
A Diatomaceous Earth will be a great portion of a roach control program. The insect must come in contact with the product or ingest it. This results in loss of body fluids then dehydration. Therefore, there is not a specific time of kill it depends on when they come into contact with the dust. If left undisturbed, the dust will last for many months.Dust should be applied in a very thin layer. If you can see the dust, you applied too much. We recommend using one of our Roach Control Kits for the necessary products for treatment inside and outside the home. This will offer a residual of up to 3 months indoors and monthly outdoors. The bait that is included will be applied every 2 weeks.

Bed from Greenville, Tx asked:
QWill this 85% DE in the 4 lb bag cause breathing problems or be toxic if it has already been put on mattress?
In my apartment, I have dusted it on the baseboards, carpet and all over the carpet in the area by the kitchen. I have also dusted it a foot around the baseboards, the window sill and on the mattress that I sleep on. I was wondering if this is too much or if it can hurt me or my lungs? I have had it down about a week. I have used it for bed bugs. So far it has worked.
A Diatomaceous Earth 85% - 4 lb. bag is labeled to be applied to cracks and crevices, carpet and mattresses. Please refer to the MSDS for more information on inhalation exposure. We always recommend wearing a mask during application. For additional safety information, please contact the manufacturer, VPG at 888-583-5296.

Monique from Ormond Beach, Florida asked:
QWill Diatomaceous Earth 85% be effective to get rid of red ants, fire ants?
Does this product break down into the ground? I have a dog that keeps his nose to the ground and I wouldn't want him inhaling particles even though this is safe for pets and humans. From what I've read, it seems to be the safest option. Thank you.
Yes, Diatomaceous Earth 85% will kill and control all ant species. However, once you have performed an application of the Diatomaceous Earth 85% it is important to keep your dog out of the treatment area until the application is complete being sure to only apply a light thin coating of the Diatomaceous Earth 85%. As long as it hasn't been misused or overused then the Diatomaceous Earth 85% is completely safe for pets.
