Double Whammo - Naturally!
By Bryan in Bristow, VA on 05/23/2011
This natural product is a home's best friend. It works best with the bellow duster, because it does not need much to control insects. I found this product far better than the big box store versions. The price-to-product ratio cannot be matched by any other natural-based product. When used properly (light dusting) in a 1800 sq ft house, this product lasts 2 years. What's more, is that this product is safe around children and pets.

I purchased this product, put it down in various places, including doorsill and so far, haven't seen a roach since. I basically wanted some protection against bedbugs entering my apartment from possibly others so since I have used this product, I feel confident that it is doing its job because I did have some roached before I used it and it beats usiing smelly sprays. I have told all of my friends about it especially the ones who own homes, I think it would be excellent for them. I highly recommend this to anyone.

The perfect DE size for the price
By Dollarseed in Cortland, NY on 08/29/2012
When I bought the 4 lb. bag, I was worried that I wouldn't have enough DE for the size of the project I needed it for. Using the bulb duster, not only did I get my project done, but did it with less than 1/2 lb. of DE. That included dusting my 5 raised beds for snails and slugs that are 32 sq. ft. each, my dog's 40 foot run and surrounding areas for fleas, and my seed room 9x12 for Indian Meal Moths. I have enough product left over to do these same areas at least 7 more times.

the good and the bad
By Big in Omaha, NE on 07/24/2012
DE is always a good product to use in an IPM oriented program. It's hard to find locally where I am and DMOPC almost always has what I am looking for. That's the good. The not so good is that I can find DE at other online venues for much lower price as the regular price than offered here. I went ahead and ordered it here this once out of convenience, but as I stock up on DE, I will likely buy it elsewhere based on price comparison.

What a mess
By Jonathan in Meadville, PA on 10/30/2015
It did not work. It did not solve the flea problem. All it did was create a white, powdery mess that destroyed my vacuum cleaner. I would not recommend this product. I am just going to call an exterminator.

Goodbye outdoor biting ants
By Sue in Carlisle, OH on 06/10/2016
Had ants hills everywhere in my yard and if I did any digging always managed to get in them. Because they bite and no, these are not fire ants, I had to find a way to get rid of them especially in my back yard where the dogs roam. This did the trick!

QDoes diatomaceous earth kill fleas?
AYes, Diatomaceous Earth 85% 4 lb bag is labeled to kill fleas. Thoroughly treat the floor and bedding in and around pets' sleeping quarters. Treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, carpeting and wherever fleas are suspected. It is also recommended to treat your pets with a product registered for flea control, such as Petcor Flea Spray.
QDoes Diatomaceous Earth kill brown recluses?
ADiatomaceous Earth will kill spiders (including brown recluse spiders), but it works over a period of several days and will not provide a fast knockdown. Diatomaceous Earth will also kill most other insects that come into contact with treated areas which will eliminate the spiders food source. By eliminating the spiders food source, existing spiders will move or starve to death (even if they do not come into contact with treated areas) and new spiders will not move in.
QWill Diatomaceous earth work for Bed Bugs?
worried about bedbugs coming to my house from college apt w/ my child - she found them then came home and then her apt was treated- could buy the diamataceous earth with the calcium bentonite at the local tractor store - so we started that as a first step and are waiting for my order from you to treat the house
AYes, Diatomaceous Earth will kill Bed bugs that come in contact with the treated area. Mainly, you want to focus on cracks, crevices and wall voids. You want to go ahead and start thoroughly cleaning and laundering anything that you can. Also, please read our article How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs.

AYes, Diatomaceous Earth is labeled to be used on bedding. Dust the mattresses especially the folds and edges.
09/27/2013 Shannon from Alma, Arkansas
QHow long will Diatomaceous Earth take to kill roaches?
A Diatomaceous Earth will be a great portion of a roach control program. The insect must come in contact with the product or ingest it. This results in loss of body fluids then dehydration. Therefore, there is not a specific time of kill it depends on when they come into contact with the dust. If left undisturbed, the dust will last for many months.Dust should be applied in a very thin layer. If you can see the dust, you applied too much. We recommend using one of our Roach Control Kits for the necessary products for treatment inside and outside the home. This will offer a residual of up to 3 months indoors and monthly outdoors. The bait that is included will be applied every 2 weeks.

QHow thick does the layer of Diatomaceous Earth 85% have to be?
Does it need to be a light coating or a thick almost pile for them to walk through so it is effective?
AYou want to use a light dusting of Diatomaceous Earth 85% - 4 lb. bag. If you use a large amount the pest you are treating may go around the treated area.

QWill Diatomaceous Earth kill or hurt beneficial insects in my soil and gardens?
I'm considering using this product but I'm concerned about what Diatomaceous Earth will do to earthworms, ladybugs and other beneficial insects. The clerk at the nursery said they probably wouldn't think of it as food but I want to make sure.
ADiatomaceous Earth 85% - 4 lb. bag causes abrasions through contact or ingestion by the insect. The manufacturer advises that Diatomaceous Earth 85% IS digestible by earthworms, therefore causing no harm. Lady bugs are not on the product label. We recommend contacting VPG 888-583-5296 to verify if the other beneficial insects you are concerned about would be harmed. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

QI have a HUGE slug problem. Will this kill the slugs? How long will it keep killing?
Slugs are eating EVERYTHING. My cats are even bringing them in the house because when they walk threw the grass they stick to there fur!!!
ADiatomaceous Earth 85% is labeled for slugs and should do a great job eliminating them when used according to the product label. The dust will need to be reapplied if it gets washed away or covered with other debris. According to the product label "Lightly coat a thin layer of Natural -Guard Craw ling Insect Control in areas where these insects are found such as patios, outdoor sills, window and door frames. Dust around foundations, along ant trails and around sewer pipes and drains." If you would like a product you can use out in the yard Hi Yield Slug and Snail bait or Sluggo Plus would both be good choices.
QIs Diatomaceous Earth 85% safe to use in gardens and on vegetables?
Can I dust this on tomatoes and other garden food to control ants as long as I wash it off before eating?
QDoes Diatomaceous Earth 85% work well on fleas and ticks in the house?
We take care of several Feral Cats and have approximately 11 in house and a dog. We have been using another product for sometime but it seems to not be working anymore. We need help fast and something that will not harm our indoor animals. Thank you for your time, Janet
ADiatomaceous Earth is labeled for fleas and other crawling insects and will definitely help but because it is slow acting you will most likely need to treat with another product first to help get the flea and ticks under control. DE takes about a week to kill an insect and in that time the insects can continue to bite, breed and lay eggs. We would recommend that you treat with a product such as Precor 2000 which will give you a fast knockdown of the biting adults and residual control of the developing fleas and ticks. It is very important to vacuum immediately before the treatment and every day or every other day for the following 14 days. At the end of the 14 day period you will most likely need to re-treat to get rid of any stragglers. You must also treat all of your animals with an approved flea/tick product so that you are not re-infesting the house. Precor 2000 is safe to use in a house with pets as long as you follow the product label. All pets should be out of the area that is being treated and they can return as soon as the area is dry.
