5 of 5 stars  Excellent Product for Preventing Crabgrass Emergence
By Chad in Minot, ND on 05/20/2013
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this product a few weeks ago in half gallon jug. My yard is about 18,000 square feet of grass. Had a big problem with crabgrass infestation every year. Through research, I discovered that crabgrass seeds germinate in the spring when soil temps reach about 50 degrees. I monitored soil temps via a local university agriculture website. When soil temps at 2 inches deep got near 50 degrees I applied Dimension. I measured out 3000 square foot areas and applied the product using a pump sprayer. I put about 5 teaspoons in a gallon of water. One gallon of water seemed to be the right amount to cover the 3000 square foot area. Turned on my sprinklers and made sure each area got a 1/2 inch of watering. I placed a 9x13 pan in each area and watered until the pan had 1/2 inch in it. Days later my crab grass areas are bare with beautiful green desirable grass surrounding. I plan to fertilize over Memorial Day weekend in order to promote desirable grass to spread to the bare areas. Remember this product prevents seed germination, so you must apply before crabgrass emerges and not after.

It hasn't yet prevented anything and didn't kill anything that was there...........don't buy this product.

    Expert Response   Expert response:
This product does not kill anything that is currently there, because it is a pre-emergent.  It will only prevent weed seeds from germinating.  If something appears after using this product, then it was not applied soon enough and the weeds already germinated.

Dimension is an excellent pre-emergent herbicide. We have had no weeds since putting it down. I would recommend it for farmers that need ultimate weed control for roads, driveways, or other ultimate control areas. DoMyOwnPestControl.com has the best price on the net. I have found them to be excellent and the products you see are actually the products that arrive.

5 of 5 stars  Crabgrass control
By Jack in Kansas City, MO on 05/28/2012
    Verified Purchase

I have wrestled with a vigorous crabgrass invasion and 'Dimension' has exceeded all expectations in controlling this. I estimate a 98% eradication of any new crabgrass seedlings and am left with the best looking bare areas I could wish for. I believe two key steps made this so successful. The first is I made split applications with 8 oz/25 gal tank of water applied in early April (Mid-west), which was followed with a 0.3 inch rainfall. A second application four weeks later was followed with 1.1 inches of rain. When I use Dimension again next year I will dilute even further so more water is used in each application. In total I have treated approx two acres and gained excellent control of crabgrass. Roundup has taken care of those mechanical escapes.

4 of 5 stars  Works great but don't save any for next year
By Randy in Browns Summit N.C. on 03/08/2015
    Verified Purchase

Pretty aggravated today. Used this last year and it worked great. I had 3/4 gallon left over and tried to use it this year. Something falls out of suspension, likely the active ingredient but I don't know. And, there is no amount of shaking that will mix it back up. I used it anyway having to stop every fifty feet to clean the filter in the tank. So, if you buy it use it.

I think I put this out too late as my weeds are not dying off. I'm sure my results would be better if I had applied it earlier in the season. All the other products I've gotten from here have been outstanding. I'll apply another dose and see what happens, I won't be late next season.

5 of 5 stars  Excellent Product, but Application Needs Clarification
By Jeff in Stokesdale, NC on 03/14/2017

I've been using this product for a couple of years now in the Piedmont of North Carolina, and it works far better than other liquids in my opinion because of its ability to prevent not only crabgrass, but a multitude of other weeds that are native to this area. That said, one of the application requirements that has always been confusing to me and many others when I scroll through the comments section on this website and other sites, is the timing required for watering in the product. Well, I called Dow Agro on several different occasions in order to get different tech support personnel to see if they all gave the same answers to the question "exactly how long do I have to water in this product?" And they all gave the same basic answer: if rain doesn't come right away, the product will stay on your grass for roughly 2 weeks to 30 days before it degrades either through exposure to the elements or mowing your lawn. This is important to know because what is confusing on all of these sites when researching this product, is exactly what does "activation" with 1/2" of rainfall mean. Activation simply means that the chemical moves into the soil for a couple of inches, therefore, any buried weed seedling will not germinate when conditions are conducive to germination. So, even though the product won't have any effect on crabgrass or weeds until it actually gets at least 1/2" of rainfall, it doesn't mean the product still can't be activated, say, 3 weeks after application when it does finally rain--again, it just won't have any affect on weeds or crabgrass until that time. In short, I think it's important for people to realize that the recommendation for watering in this product of 24 to 48 hours is somewhat deceiving. Of course most people would like this product to start working right away, and the only way it can do that is with watering in immediately after application, but if rain doesn't come in time, it doesn't mean the product becomes ineffective; again, though, mowing your yard while waiting for rain can affect the distribution of the product, but the chemical is still there and won't degrade for up to one month after application.

5 of 5 stars  Prevents most weeds
By Ron in Foxfield, CO on 11/06/2014

Where I live we have "weed wars". This past year I did a test patch of 2EW over about 5,000 sq ft in my field grass area + about 6,000 sq ft of turf grass... in both cases, prevented nearly 100% of the weeds. Next Spring, will be doing a broadcast spray over about 2 acres. 2EW is not only competitive in price with similar products, appears to be somewhat more effective, more forgiving for mis-estimating coverage and concentration. Also, good for both warm and cool season grass areas. RECOMMENDED! Suggest giving it a try with the 1/2 gallon size. If it works for you, then save some money with the 2.5 gallon next order.

By Tim in Baxter Springs, KS on 03/14/2014

This is the second half gallon bottle I have purchased in about 4 years. I have about 1.75 acres of Bermuda grass. I used to fight crabgrass. I bought the fertilizer with its preemergent mixed in itself. This was way too costly. Now, I can fertilize cheaper AND control weeds. Because of wind and rain, last year I was late with my application. I remember watching the little crabgrass weeds die. This year, I will spray a second time in the summer. I noticed prostrate coming up in the dry time. Do the math, this is the cheapest way I know.

I used Dimension 2EW for the first time last year and the results were great. We have 2.5 acres and the crabgrass, henbit and sand burrs were getting out of control. (10-15% crabgrass in burmuda) I made one application in late February and my timing must have been good. Virtually no Henbit, or grass burrs, and only a few patches of crabgrass emerged. I'm trusting that another application this year will have it licked.

QCan this product be used with Ortho Dial n Spray and at what dial setting per gallon of water?
How many oz., tsp, or tbls per gallon of water? This is to treat annual bluegrass and crabgrass. Thanks

AYou can use a hose end sprayer to apply this product, but we are not familiar with the Ortho model so we do not know what specifics to give you.  As far as application rates, we wish it was that easy.  Bluegrass and Crabgrass require slightly different treatments and also depend on where you live and what grass you have currently that you are trying keep them out of, which you did not state.  Also, herbicides do not give a water amount.  They only tell you how much of the product to apply over 1000 square feet.  The amount of water is dependent on how ever much water it takes for you to walk 1000 square feet.  Whether you place the amount of product per 1000 square feet in a gallon of water or 10 gallons of water, it does not matter, just as long as that amount of product is distributed over the 1000 square feet.  Since you are treating two different types of grasses, we recommend calling the manufacturer since they are the experts on their own product and could probably give you a more definitive answer than we can.  They should also be able to better help you with the settings on your hose end sprayer.  The manufacturer is Dow Agro and you can reach them at 1-317-337-3000.

QHow much Dimension 2EW would I need to cover two acres?

QRatio product to water when using Dimension.

Herbicides are a lot different than other concentrated products and can be hard to understand at first. The application rate depends on the the type of turf you have and how quickly you apply the product.  You will need to read the product label to determine the correct usage rate for your needs (you did not give us any information about the type of lawn, region or application program you will be using so we cannot give you exact rates). The amount of water used to apply Dimension herbicide is not critical, but should be sufficient for uniform coverage of the target area. Calibrate by determining the volume of water required to treat 1,000 square feet. Use this calibration volume to determine the amount of water and Dimension herbicide needed to treat the target area (see the following calibration example). Note: Sprayer calibration (volume of spray needed to treat 1,000 square feet) will vary with each individual operator.

Steps in Calibration:
1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet or 25 by 40 feet).
2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the spray tank.
3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage. Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.
4. Determine the application rate (0.073- .55 fl. oz./1,000 sq. ft.) for Dimension from the Recommendations section of this label.
5. To each volume of water used as measured in step 3, add the amount of Dimension as determined in step 4.

Example: If the sprayer uses 1 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of Dimension is .55 fluid oz./1,000 square feet, then you would add .55 fluid ounces of Dimension to every 1 gallon of water to be used."

QOnce applied, how long after applying Dimension can we leave the pets outside on the lawn?

AAs soon as Dimension 2EW has dried on the lawn it is safe to allow pets back on the lawn.  This depends on how hot it is, but most of the time 1 hour is plenty long enough for the solution to dry.

QWhat is the ground coverage for the 1/2 gallon for use on crabgrass?

QIs my understanding correct that I can spray my boxwoods and pygmy barberry with Dimension 2EW?
I have crabgrass growing in the barberry. Can't reach in to pull it, thorns, OUCH!

Yes, Dimension 2EW Herbicide can be sprayed directly on the crabgrass that is growing in and around the pygmy barberry and boxwoods. This product should not be sprayed over the top of these ornamentals. Keep in mind that Dimension is a pre-emergent herbicide and will only control newly emerged crabgrass up to the 4-tiller stage.

QWhat is the recommended amount of Dimension 2EW Herbicide that should be used per gallon of water?
The reason I ask is I use a tank sprayer and don't know the amount of water it deliver. I normally spray 15000 sq. ft. at a time. Knowing the quantity of herbicide needed per gallon would allow me to apply the recommended amount of herbicide to each of my pre-established areas too be treated.

QWhat do I need to get stickers out of my grass?
I have been told there is something I can spray on my yard to get the stickers out of my yard. I was told it needed to be sprayed on my yard in Sept. and no later than Oct. can you tell me what it is.

Pre-emeregent application of Dimension 2EW or Pendulum 2G will kill sandburs. The treated area should not be disturbed during this period and should be watered in thoroughly for best results. As always, read and follow label directions carefully. Also remember that it may take a couple of years to eliminate all the burs hiding in your lawn. We recommend that you contact your local cooperative extension office and speak to the master gardener on staff as he/she may be able to tell you what has worked best in your region and also the exact time to apply the products for the best result in your region.

Depending on what type of lawn you have, Hi Yield 2, 4-D will treat sticker bur actively growing. We recommend also to make sure there is an adequate amount of water being applied to your turf as sometimes lack of water can cause sticker bur.

QWhat pre-emergent do you recommend to control crabgrass on St. Augustine?
Moved into a new house and the lawn has quite a bit of crabgrass.

For long term control though, you should apply a pre-emergent in the late fall and early spring which will prevent new crabgrass from coming up next year.† If you apply pre-emergent every year, you should not have issues with crabgrass long term.† Dimension 2EW is one of our most popular pre-emergents for crabgrass.

Dimension 2EW†will work great for Crabgrass Pre-emergent in a Zoysia Lawn. Be sure that you make your application in the Spring around Mid-March. QWhat is the best herbicide to eradicate established dallisgrass in my tall fescue lawn?

Unfortunately, since Dallisgrass is closely related to Tall Fescue, generally what kills one will kill the other. We normally recommend hand pulling, if possible, or using something like Roundup QuikPro to spot treat the Dallisgrass, and then reseeding with Tall Fescue once the Dallisgrass is gone. We recommend using something†Dimension as a pre-emergent for you to try to help prevent having to control as much with a post emergent down the road. Often with a few years of fall and spring applications you can get decent prevention.
