    Q
Can I use Dismiss to control Wild Onion growing in a rather large rose garden?
This rose garden is well established and about 1/2 acre in size. Wild onion has infested about 1/4 of the rose garden. If Dismiss will not work, what other alternative is there to get rid of the wild onion short of digging up the roses?
    A
Dismiss is only meant to be used on turf and is not labeled for ornamental areas. It may kill the roses.  When treating a weed like wild onions it is best to usually spot treat the onions with a glyphosate or RoundUp type product.  This is the best option.  If that is not an issue, you can use Image 70 DG which is labeled for ornamental areas, but you should try to keep the spray directed at the bed areas and not on the roses.

    Q
How much water to add per ounce of Dismiss South?
    A
You will need to take a look at the product label as you will not be mixing by the ounce or by the gallon. Dismiss South is a very specific herbicide and the label states when using it on the tolerant species of turf for weed control, you use 9.5-14 ounces per acre, which breaks down to roughly 0.220-0.331 per 1000 sq/ft. When using herbicides the amount of water you use is not what is key, only that you get the correct amount of product over the correct amount of area so as to not harm your lawn by using to much, or not see results by not using enough. The best way to measure out amount per a set gallon of water is to mark off 1000 sq/ft, walk it with just water and see how many gallons of water it takes you to cover that area. Whether its 1 or 5 gallons of water both are correct and you will mix whatever you come up with for coverage with either of the above stated rates. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Q
Will Dismiss South Herbicide work on Nutsedge, Crabgrass and Buttonweed in 50-70 degree weather?
    A

Dismiss South Herbicide will effectively treat actively growing nutsedge and crabgrass when temperatures are between 60-70 degrees, but is not labeled to treat for Virginia Buttonweed.  Blindside would be a better option to treat for all three weeds.

    Q
Is Dismiss South considered organic? if not is there an organic selective herbicide?
    A
Dismiss South is not an organic herbicide and there are no selective organic herbicides on the market that we are aware of. Can you tell us where you are looking to spray for weed control to where you feel you need an organic product? Is it where you plan to plant edibles? The only organic product on the market is a non selective like round up an its called Avenger

  • Asked by Joe from Southlake, Tx

    Q
When can I apply perennial rye after spraying Dismiss South Herbicide?
    A

Per the product label for Dismiss South Herbicide: Reseeding, overseeding or sprigging of treated areas within one (1) month after application of this product could inhibit the establishment of desirable turfgrasses.  Overseeding of bermudagrass with perennial ryegrass at two (2) to four (4) weeks after an application can be done if slight injury to perennial ryegrass can be tolerated.

    Q
Will Dismiss South Herbicide kill field sandbur or cocklebur in Tif 419 Bermuda grass?
    A

Dismiss South Herbicide is not labelled for field sandbur or cocklebur. Sandburs are easier to prevent than to try to get rid of once they have invaded your yard. To prevent sandburs you should apply a pre-emergent such as Dimension 2EW or Pendulum 2G Herbicide in the late fall. For post-emergent applications, we would suggest EndRun Herbicide

Can Dismiss South be used in vegetable gardens
My vegetable garden is overrun by nutsedge. Is it safe to use Dismiss South in the garden? If so is there a specific amount of time between use and planting?
    A

Dismiss South cannot be used on or around anything edible.  You can find our selection of edible garden products here.  We would recommend carefully spot-treating the nutsedge with a product like Avenger.

    Q
Is Dismiss South Herbicide the best product to treat torpedo grass in Centipede?
    A

One product that is labeled for this application is Bonide Grass Beater:

This will work best on young torpedograss. Be sure that the centipede is not under other stress from heat, drought, etc. We do not recommend applying if temperatures are over 90 degrees; you can apply in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler, if needed.

Your other option is to spot treat carefully using a non-selective herbicide like RoundUp QuikPro:

    Q
Temperature Range with Dismiss South Herbicide
I live in Louisiana and am trying to regain control of the weeds for a centipede lawn. I the nutsedge and crabgrass are thriving. Unfortunately, I've waited until the hottest part of the year to try tackling the nutsedge specifically as I understand crabgrass is almost impossible to control once emerged. Is there a temperature range to apply Dismiss South in a Centipede lawn that is NOT irrigated? The irrigation is next spring's project… so, should I wait for Centipede to go dormant this late fall or just wait for next spring to apply Dismiss South?
    A

Dismiss South Herbicide should be applied in temperatures 55 degrees to 85 degrees.

  • Asked by Robert from Statesboro

    Q
Is September too late to use Dismiss South Herbicide for post emergent control for goosegrass? I am treating 2 acres.
I am wondering if goosegrass dies in the winter like crabgrass, could I wait until April to apply a pre emergent?
    A

Dismiss South Herbicide works best when weeds are young actively growing typically in June, July and August. Goosegrass is going to die off in the winter similar to crabgrass however we would recommend applying a pre emergent in late fall for early control of winter weeds and the following spring. Fall pre emergents should be applied when soil temps reach 70 degrees and continue to drop. Spring pre emergents need to be applied when soil temps begin to rise and are just under 55 degrees.
