Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Dollar spot does not usually become a serious issue in home lawns as it does on golf courses. However, it still produces unsightly discolored patches that can be helped with fungicide application.
Step 1

Apply Fungicide Immediately

Choose and apply a fungicide that is labeled to control dollar spot.

  • Preventative fungicide applications are not generally necessary for dollar spot, since contact fungicides are very effective in controlling and curing dollar spot.
  • Treat dollar spot as needed at the first sign of the disease.
  • Make sure you read the fungicide label carefully to understand the proper mode of application and how often you can apply the fungicide.
Step 2

Rotate Fungicides Often

Dollar spot is especially prone to fungicide resistance, so it is even more important to rotate and take steps to prevent a fungicide-resistant disease.

  • Rotate the active ingredients you use when treating for this disease. The Mode of Action chart on the bag of your fungicide is a handy resource to see the many different categories of active ingredients, so you can choose an effective rotation of products. More information about fungicide rotation can be found in our fungicide guide.
  • Only apply products when necessary. Limiting the number of applications can prevent resistance.
  • Combining fungicide applications with cultural practices not only reduces the amount of fungicide you need to use, but it reduces the potential for future disease, which limits fungicide exposure.
