Drilling Attached Garage - Inside vs Exterior Drilling and Trenching

Have an attached garage, with our living room on top of the garage. From reviewing your (great) Q&As;, I understand that I drill along the interior garage wall, that goes up against the interior house wall, just like I would a patio. I would not drill or trench the other two exterior walls, nor in the pavement below the garage door. If this is correct, could termites tunnel up from the two exterior garage walls to the garage windows or the living space above the garage, since there is no perimeter barrier there? Seems to me, I need to treat the two exterior walls and the one interior garage wall.

Answer:

If you are doing a termite barrier treatment (6 inch x 6 inch trench against the structure) with a termiticide such as Termidor SC around the entire pertimeter of the home, you will not need to drill those exterior walls. The trench will provide your protection. We highly suggest this method as opposed to just "spot treating" areas of the foundation. If you are not doing a termite barrier trench treatment, you will need treat those two exterior walls as you would that interior wall. Drill 1/2 inch holes 2-3 inches off the foundation wall every 10-12 inches along the entire length of the wall. Pour 4 gallons of mixed solution in the holes for every 10 linear feet along the exterior wall (3.2 ounces/4 gallons of water) Each hole will hold 1/2 gallon of solution.
