Good for a season
By Steve on May 14, 2009This is a great duster out of the box. I've had at least four over the years and they all have become useless after one or two seasons. The plastic gears and shafts apparently develop "slop" and get out of time making cranking difficult and cause the fan to frequently "lock up". Perhaps the company should borrow the same system on bait cast fishing reels to turn the venturi and to be more durable and maintainable.

maintenance tip
By J. on May 24, 2012When it binds up a bit, I find that taking the gear cover off and putting hard grease or vaseline on the gear shafts (not WD40) makes it run good again.

Poor Distribution
By Ron on July 23, 2010
Verified Purchase
Using a new dry container of Sevin powder I find it necessary to keep shaking the Dustin Mizer to allow the powder to disperse. The dust does not flow freely. The unit is very light in weight and the extra cranking to attempt dispersion is awkward and clumsy. Overall I am not pleased with this product. Perhaps the manufacture has some explanation or solution.

...is the bomb! It works as advertised. I used it to put boric acid and diatomeous earth in my attic and around the foundation of my house.

I finally got a chance to use the Dustin Mizer and I love it. I have also purchased a couple for my mother and aunt who are up in age and bending is a problem. This product allows for lite dusting, which is different then using a shaker that dumps a lot of dust on the plants.

Just a bit hard to turn the handle. Does not put out a very good cloud of DE powder. I cannot recommend this product.

Dustin Mizer with Diatomaceous Earth
By John on July 23, 2012Something had been eating the leaves of my Basil crop. As hard as I looked, I could not find what was eating them. Using the Dustin Mizer, I put down a fine (barely able to see it) layer of diatomaceous earth. Within a week, the plants were getting new leaves, which were no longer being eaten. The Dustin Mizer was very easy to use, and did the job quickly. When I factored in the shipping charges from the “cheaper” distributors, DoMyOwnPsetControl was actually cheaper.

Sevin Duster
By Earl on July 4, 2012This thing works great. Puts out a huge very fine fog of dust. I place it under the plant and crank the fog up from the bottom to get the leaves totally covered. A wrist brace extension on the handle to help with holding it would be a nice addition, similar to some hand held fertilizer spreaders. I bought one for a friend after I had used mine several times.

Dustin Mizer
By D. on June 19, 2012The dustin mizer works really good as long as you are strong enough to turn the handle at a fairly fast speed. I would not recommend it to weak, sickly or elderly people to use but if you are strong and healthy you will enjoy this products.

Dustin Mizer
By Robert on May 25, 2012This product does a nice job of applying insect dusts and diatomaceous earth. It puts out a fine even coating and is easy to operate. Physically, it's on the small side and very light, which is the only thing that concerns me for long term use...but time will tell. If they made a beefed up version, I think it would sell better and people wouldn't mind paying a little more for a higher quality product.

Dustin Mizer
By H.s. on May 18, 2012the duster works beautiful with DE in it. The DE is so fine and light it is necessary to have absolute wind-still conditions to disburse it upwards into a fruit tree.

Good but
By Rodney on May 3, 2012It works well, but it does waste a lot of the dust. I had to cover most of the holes with duct tape to stop waste of dust. With the holes partially covered it works well.

NICE STUFF - Dustin Mizer

When you really crank on it and turn fast I filled my entire attic in less then 30 seconds. Really throws out the dust and yet it takes very little to cover a large area. Domyownpestcontrol.com Is GREAT. Super FAST shipping. I ordered and before I clicked pay I had a knock at my door and my items were there. Well maybe it was after I paid but it was QUICK and 100%.

Works well

Does the job as promised. If you're using it for an extended period of time it gets tiring on your arms and becomes a little cumbersome.

May 15, 2012E. from Norwood, Mo asked:
QAfter about 3 seconds of dusting, the stream of powder tapers off to hardly anything. Why?
Then I tap the side of the hopper several times and it starts dusting ok. It slows things down considerably. Suggestions?
AIt sounds like the dust you are using is clumping and sticking to the side of the hopper. The dust you are using may have been exposed to a little bit of moisture which is causing caking or clumping in the duster. You can shake the Dustin Mizer as you are using it to keep the dust moving.
