Esplanade EZ contains the following active ingredients:
Indaziflam - 0.089%
Diquat dibromide - 0.890%
Glyphosate isopropylamine salt - 20.460%
Per the product label for Esplanade EZ it states only under drought conditions it may be neccessary to water the product in. Otherwise it should not need to be done. Ideally if needed, it should be watered in within 7 days of application. This is the general standard with pre-emergents.
Esplanade EZ is labeled to be mixed at 8 oz per 500 sq feet or 1 gallon of water. Since this product is considered a pre and post emergent for weeds and grass the use rate is higher. For 25 gallons of water you will need approx 1 1/2 gallons of Esplanade EZ. If weeds are harder to manage you can take the mix rate up to 16oz per gallon water.
The mix rate for Esplanade EZ is 8 fl oz - 16 fl oz per gallon of water depending on the pest you are treating. So if you are using a 3 gallon sprayer, you will mix 24 fl oz - 48 fl oz total. Please refer to the product label for mix rate recommendations.
The product label for Esplanade EZ does not recommend using a surfactant. There should be no reason it cannot be mixed with another product so long as you follow the labeled instructions for each product. It would also be a good idea to do a tank mix test to be sure the products combine well.
People and pets can re-enter the area where Esplanade EZ has been applied as soon as the area has thoroughly dried. This normally takes a couple of hours.
Esplanade EZ will kill the weeds listed on the product label when sprayed directly and can prevent them for up to 6 months.
Esplanade EZ is a non-selective and should not be applied to desired Bermuda.

Esplanade EZ cannot be used in areas where water is present. Applications should be kept at least 25 feet away from water areas.
Per the product label: To protect the environment, do not allow pesticide to enter or run off into storm drains, drainage ditches, gutters, or surface waters. Applying this product in calm weather when rain is not predicted for the next 24 hours will help to ensure that wind or rain does not blow or wash pesticide off the treatment area. This chemical has properties and characteristics associated with chemicals detected in groundwater. This chemical may leach into ground water if used in areas where soils are permeable, particularly where the water table is shallow. This pesticide may impact water quality due to runoff of rainwater. This is especially true for poorly draining soils and soils with shallow ground water. This product is classified as having a high potential for reaching surface water via runoff for several months or more after application
People and pets can re-enter an area where Esplanade EZ has been applied as soon as everything is fully dry.
Esplanade EZ is mixed at the rate of 16 fl oz in 1 gallon of water per 1000 sqft per the product label. This would equal approx 5.4 gallons per acre, which is also the max rate you can apply per year on an acre.
Esplanade EZ is not labeled to be used in athletic fields so we cannot recommend it anywhere there.
Esplanade EZ is labeled to treat Poa Annua as a post emergent application only. However, it is a non-selective and should not be applied to desired Bermuda. Image Kills Nutsedge Concentrate can be used in your bermudagrass to control poa annua. The mixing rate is 2.5 fl oz in a gallon of water if you are doing a spot treatment. If you are treating a larger area, you will use 0.8 fl oz in a gallon of water. This will cover 200 square feet.
Unfortunately, the only way to reduce the effects of an herbicide such as Esplanade EZ would be to use an activated charcoal immediately after applying (within hours). You will mostly have to wait and see what happens since results will vary depending on the rate used and overall health of the turfgrass. As this product kills anything sprayed and can prevent new things growing in the area, you will most likely have to reseed/sod the area at a later time.
