5 of 5 stars  Versatile product
By Tim in Somerset, KY on 08/29/2011

We mostly use this product in our mostly organic garden. It works great. Mixture ratio is dependent on pest. 1 Tbs. per gallon works good for aphids, whiteflies, thrips, sap beetles, bean beetle larva. It's expensive but what organic isn't. We've had a terrible problem with fleas this year & regular pyrethrin based flea soap wasn't solving the problem so I started mixing a very small amount to some flea shampoo & it works great for that too. I can only guess that since pyrethrins are degraded in an alkaline solution (such as soap), that the flea shampoo is not strong enough. Adding a small amount of this product ( 1 ML or 1/5 of a teaspoon ) to a few tablespoons of soap just before bathing brings the potency to a sufficient level. I'm very pleased with this product.

4 of 5 stars  Good product
By Red in Seattle, WA on 05/11/2013

I have been battling root aphids in my indoor garden for several weeks. The other products I have been using were having a very limited effect, so I finally tried a root drench at about 10 ml per gallon, and noticed an immediate and drastic reduction in the population of aphids. If you are looking for a good (organic) knock-down agent to control bugs in your garden, I highly recommend this product.

5 of 5 stars  Revise my review above
    By Tim on 09/03/2011
    Verified Purchase

Since I was unable to edit my review above, I'm having to add this review. I didn't measure when I added the Evergreen to the shampoo. I was just guessing at the 1 ML ( 1/5 teaspoon). Mixed with 3-4 Tbs. (45-60 ML) of shampoo would be approximately 2% pyrethrin. That is stronger than it needs to be. Most flea dips are about 1% pyrethrin. So 1/2 ML or 1/10th of a teaspoon or 6 - 8 drops mixed with 4 Tbs. (2 oz.) shampoo should be plenty. That's 1% pyrethrin and 20 times stronger than 0.05% flea shampoo. From now on I'll just add it to regular shampoo instead of flea shampoo which contains PBO which is linked to tumors. I sprayed some blister beetles with it at 1/4 teaspoon in 1 cup of water. They went down quick but I think a few recovered.

1 of 5 stars  Not real pleased, Should have asked better questions.
By Jon in Newton, NC on 09/03/2011
    Verified Purchase

I have mixed 3 batches in 3 weeks, and I still have mosquitos. I wish I would have bought a stronger or product. I used a local company to fog my yard last year and their product worked for about 3 weeks, I am seeing flying mosquitos the day following fogging. I believe PBO will last longer. (Live and Learn). I have also sprayed it directly on spiders, and wasp and they are still alive. The last time I fogged, I used a mix ratio of 1/4 oz to 1/2 gallon of water which is 1/4 oz stronger than the lable suggest. (Still no better results) Has anyone had better results? If so please give me any tips, and or suggestions of other products. Thanks...Jon

I order quite often and all is well however they do not list on there web site when things are back ordered. You don't find out until you go to track your order. If it's something you must have now to cure a problem I would call to check if it's in stock.

QEvergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate vs. ExciteR?
Any reason to use ExciteR over the Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate? Would like to keep it Organic.

AThe Evergreen Pyrethrum insecticide contains only all natural products and is OMRI compliant. The Exciter contains a synthetic synergizing agent called Piperonyl Butoxide also known as PBO along with the natural pyrethrin insecticide and is not OMRI compliant. Evergreen Insecticide is the way to go if you need a product that will fit into an organic pest control program.

QIs Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate the stuff used by Billy the Exterminator to get rid of yellow jackets?

AWe honestly do not know what brands of insecticide Billy the Exterminator uses. We do know that he uses pyrethrin based insecticides because they are more environmentally friendly. Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is a pyrethrin based insecticide but it is not labeled for use on wasps. We recommend using something like Wasp Freeze. Wasp-freeze is specially formulated to provide instant knockdown of yellow jackets, wasps and hornets. Knockdown is quick so no stinging pheromone is released, thus reducing the possibility of stings. The Wasp Freeze can has a jet nozzle that will spray up to 15 ft away.

QCan you use on Marijuana
I live in Michigan and Iam a legal Caregiver and I have a Spider Mite infestation

A

Yes, Evergreen Pyrethrum is used on marijuana. Below is a response and a list of products we carry when we asked an expert what could be used on marijuana plants for insect control and disease control:

Customers will need to make their own decision as to what they consider safe. Some of these products are natural and organic and others aren’t. Some products, like the miticides, probably shouldn't be used when the plants are flowering.

·         wettable sulfur for fungus, mites,

·         Avid 0.15, Abamectin 0.15, Floramite, Forbid 4F for mites

·         D-Earth for root weevils

·         Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate for mites and weevils (OMRI Listed for organic production)

·         Eagle 20EW Specialty Fungicide for fungus

Qwhat will be the best product for killing roaches. I have american and german roaces
we transported them from my aunts apt., when we stayed there for a couple months. I keep the houseclean and do the dishes every night but they are still around. I have used bait and the roach hotels for about a month now and need something better and stronger. I have three kids and three cats so something that is safe for them is my main concern. please help

AThe Roach Control Kit #2 is perfect for roach control problems in homes and apartments. This professional kit includes 1 packet of Demon WP Insecticide (which makes 4 gallons of finished solution) for spraying the outside perimeter of the home and inside underneath appliances, behind cabinets, under toilets and sinks, etc. You'll also get 4 x 30 gram tubes of Advion Roach Bait Gel--one of the best roach baits on the market. Advion can be applied up high in the kitchen in the corner of cabinets and in cracks and crevices in kitchens and bathrooms. The bait contains a slow-acting poison that attracts and kills feeding roaches, who also spread the bait to other roaches by contact or by sharing food. Finally, 20 Gentrol Point Source stations provide an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) that will stop roaches from laying eggs, helping to halt the infestation. The combination of an IGR with roach bait is a highly effective roach control strategy that is widely used by pest control professionals. Demon WP must be applied with a 1 gallon pump sprayer. Please also take a few minutes to read our article How to get rid of roaches as it contains many great tips that should help you get rid of the infestation.

QI have a large apple tree, what is the best method to apply Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate?

AEvergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is not labeled for use on apple trees. It is only labeled to be used on the harvested fruit. We do carry Bonide Fruit Tree Spray which is labeled to be used on apple trees. You can spray it on with a hand pump sprayer or if the tree is very large and a hand pump sprayer won't do, you can use the Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer. The brass pump develops pressure up to 150 psi and allows you to reach targets over 30 feet away. The Chapin Slide Pump Sprayer offers maximum portability and can be used in any container simply by dropping the weighted strainer into the solution and pumping with the slide pump.

QCould this product be used in the home to kill "kissing bugs?"
CDC has noted that this type of insecticide has been proven effective in killing "kissing bugs" that carry the potentially deadly Chagas' disease. If this doesn't work or isn't safe, what else can I use?

A

Evergreen Pyrethrum is not specifically labeled for kissing bugs, however, it can be used for general pest control. If you are wanting to use this outdoors, it is recommend that you spray every 21 days.

The only information that we can provide about kissing bugs in the information from the CDC. Here is the link:

QWhy would you buy 1.4% concentration instead of using a smaller amount of the 5% solution?

ADifferent concentrations are labeled for different types of pests, applications, places to be applied, etc. For example PyGanic Crop Protection EC 1.4 is labeld to be used in greenhouses and outdoors on crops and ornamentals. Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is labeled to be used in homes, barns, food handling areas, etc.

QI have a crap ton of weevils. Is there something that is effective I could try?

AThere are many different species of weevils, and this makes it difficult to control them because each species has a different life cycle, different food preference, different habitat, and different control method needed. Often times you will be able to identify the weevil that is causing you problems based on where you find them. For example, if you are finding damage and weevils on spruce trees, white pine weevils are probably the culprits. Getting rid of weevils is dependent on the identification of the species. We recommend contacting your local Cooperative Extension Office for a pest identification. Once we have the weevil identified we would be able to make a proper product and treatment recommendation.

QIs this Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate safe for horse barns?

AYes, the Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is safe for use in horse barns. You would want to remove the horses from the barn and and then treat and allow it to dry completely before allowing animals to re-enter the barn. This normally takes 2-3 hours depending on the weather.

QWe have a maggot problem in our outdoor garbage cans
We tried Suspend SC but it doesn't seem to help

AFirst, you want to thoroughly clean the trash cans, and try and locate the source of the maggots. Next, you can apply Cy-Kick aerosol in and around the trash cans. Cy-Kick aerosol leaves a residual that keeps on killing for weeks.

QWill this work for fleas?
I need something for indoor and outdoor flea infestation. I also have white flies outside.. will this work and be safe for the pets to be around? (cats too)

AThe Evergreen Pyrethrum Concentrate is ONLY a contact kill and will not provide any residual which is what you need for flea and whitefly control. If you are having a problem with whiteflies on a tree, you would want to use something like Dominion 2L. This product is one that only requires a tiny amount of product to work, and you would use it as a soil drench around the base of whatever tree or shrub the whiteflies are on as long as it is not a tree which produces food you plan to consume. The Dominion will be soaked up through the root system of the tree and treat the tree from the inside out to get rid of the whitefly and will stay in the tree for up to 1 year. For Flea Control outdoors you would want to use Talstar and NyGuard IGR. The Talstar is the liquid insecticide you would use to kill the adults and the NyGuard is the birth control that keeps the larvae from growing into reproducing adults as well as halting reproduction in the adults. The birth control is one of the biggest factors in control the fleas. Keep your grass very short and dry as this makes it harder for the fleas to thrive on your property. If you have pets make sure they are on a flea preventative to keep the number being brought into your home at a minimum. For inside the home use NyGuard Plus to spray down all floors, furniture, pet bedding and areas where the fleas are present. This is an aerosol so no mixing is needed and is easier for indoor applications and it has the birth control and insecticide built into the can together. Vaccuuming is going to be key indoors to control the fleas as well and you can review our article on How To Get Rid Of Fleas Indoors for further tips. All of these products are safe when used according to the label and you would simply keep pets and children out of the area you are treating until it has dried.
