    Q
Once Evergreen dust is applied inside walls, crevices, electrical boxes, how long does its potency last?
We are trying to create barriers against bed bugs between apartments in multi-unit buildings and don't want to reapply constantly. Diatomaceous earth works forever as long as it doesn't get wet but doesn't have the instant kill that this dust has.
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% can last for up to 4-6 months depending on where it was applied. You should also note that Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% dust does not have an immediate kill (all dusts take time to kill insects), and it can take about 3 days for insects to die after they have come into contact with treated areas. And while it is true that Diatomaceous earth can last indefinitely it will still need to be reapplied as it becomes covered with other dust or debris.

    Q
Does Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust have a long-lasting effect against all insects and does it work as a residual treatment?
Could it work underneath steam hot water pipes which is the main area where the bugs in my home reside such as pillbugs, silverfish, centipede, etc?
    A

Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust will last up to 8 months and provide long lasting residual protection on just about any insect that walks over it.  The main concern is that if you apply it where there is moisture than it can lose some of its potency and turn clumpy.  It is not water resistant.  It can be applied underneath water pipes (unless they are leaking or dripping) and just about any other avenue that insects use to gain entry. Delta Dust may be more suited to your needs. Delta Dust is water proof and provide the same results as Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust.

    Q
I need to kill moth larvae in rugs. What do we do?
I need to treat wool, oriental rugs that are being eaten by moth larvae. I understand pyrethrin is product of choice. My daughter ordered 2 bottles of your "natural pyrethrin concentrate" but it does not mention treatment for moths or their larvae and rugs are indoors. Can we return and get right stuff?
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% will kill moth larvae in carpet. You want to lightly puff the dust over the carpet, sweep or rake in and let it stand for a few hours and then vacuum up the treated area. Make sure to disgard of the vacummed contents outdoors. Please find our Cloths Moth control page.

    Q
What are the side effects for humans if the product is inhaled or comes in contact with the skin?
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust is an all natural product and the ingredient from it comes from the crysanthymum plant. You would want to use the same precautions with an all natura product as you would any other insecticide or even house cleaning product. Take care to follow the instructions on the label and only use in areas it designates is safe for use. If it touches your skin, wash your skin with soap and hot water to remove it. Any side effect to a human would vary on the human and their sensitivity to the product.

    Q
How does Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust kill bed bugs?
I recently purchased Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust and applied it to my daughters room around the baseboards and inside the drawers and around the wooden platform of her bed. I did this about 2 weeks after the PCOs came and treated all of the bedrooms in my house as an extra precaution. Since the PCOs had treated my house after their first visit, she has not gotten any bites. However, when my daughter slept in her room the night after I applied the dust, she was terribly bitten all over her arms and shoulders. I called the PCOs again and they came back and retreated all the bedrooms. This is in addition to the relentless cleaning I have been doing. My question is then, how does the dust work? Does it aggravate the bed bugs to come out of their hiding place? How long does it take for it to kill the bed bugs?
    A

It sounds like the treatment that the PCO's applied had worn off after two weeks (bedbug treatments are supposed to be repeated about every 7-10 days to stop this from being a problem). Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust has the active ingredient of Pyrethrins and can take up to 1 week to kill a bedbug which is why you must use it conjunction with other products. It does seem to be coincidental that your daughter received bites the night after you applied the dust. Had she been sleeping some where else besides her room before that night? If so, the bedbugs may have simply been hiding in the wall and when she resumed sleeping in her room they were able to detect her and came out to feed. We have never had complaints of the dust causing the bedbugs to bite. If the dust has not been vacuumed up or otherwise removed, there is no reason to reapply as the dust will last for several months.

    Q
Can we burn Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% like Buhach?
Before Buhach went out of business, we used to burn it to keep flying insects out of the house, just a little went a long way and could last for an hour. Can we do that with Evergreen Pyrethum dust?
    A

No, Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% should not be burned. This is an insecticide dust that is a ready-to-use insecticide to be applied directly to cracks and crevices with a duster such as a bellow hand duster. Please refer to the product label for complete application instructions. If you would like to tell us more about the situation that you are trying to control, then we would be happy to offer additional advice.

    Q
Will it stay in a hole the carpenter bees have drilled
I have carpenter bees that have drilled holes and nest in holes at the bottom of garage roof trim. If I spray it upward in the holes, will the small amount of dust that sticks to the inside hole be enough to treat?
    A
Yes, the Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% will stay put inside of the carpenter bee bore holes. Dust have an ability to cling to surfaces very well in areas that are protected from wind, rain, or other elements. No need to worry about the dust coming out of the bee bore holes.

    Q
Does Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% kill Springtails?
I purchased Evergreen Dust, & put it all along the baseboards in my home. I also use sticky boards to see if the product is working. Well, so far, we have caught loads of springtails on the sticky boards, after putting the Evergreen Dust down. Question, "will this product help rid us of these horrible bugs in our house, & carpeting?" TY in advance for the answer!
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% is not labeled to treat for springtails. However it should kill them when they come in contact with the product. Do you have a positive ID on the insect. If it is springtails, please review our How to Control Springtails page.  Also, springtails are attracted to water. Have you checked for any possible water leaks? You also want to make sure to treat aroun the outside perimeter of your home. You can use a product like Talstar P to treat around spraying 2-3 feet up out all the way around the outside perimeter of your home.

    Q
Can I puff evergreen pyrethrum dust in electronics?
especially my laptop, or how do I stop bed bugs from going in or out of my laptop?
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% or any other dust cannot be puffed into electronics. We recommend placong the electronics in a plastic bin and then putting a Nuvan Pro Strip inside. Leave the bin sealed up for 1-2 weeks to allow the odorless vapors to kill the insects.

    Q
Does the Evergreen 1% Pyrethrum GET RID OF STINK BUGS?
We have been getting stink bugs for the past few years and each year is worse than the next. They say that in 2013 there will be 60% more stink bugs than there were in 2012!!!
    A
Evergreen Pyrethrum Dust 1% will treat for stink bugs as a combination with an insecticide like Demon Wp. We have actually put together a very effective Stink Bug Kit.
The Stink Bug Kit contains a combination of professional products to protect your home from  stink bugs (including the brown marmorated stink bug). This kit includes Demon WP insecticide with Cypermethrin, Eco PCO D-X dust with natural pyrethrins, and a hand duster for easy application.  Demon WP must be mixed with water before application and requires a 1 or 2 gallon hand pump sprayer to apply. Demon WP should be sprayed around the outside of the home to create a protective barrier to keep bugs from getting inside. Spray 3 feet up the side of the house and 2 feet out, all the way around the home.  Also spray around window frames, window sills, door frames,  any cracks and crevices around foundation or where caulking around windows and doors has opened up, around vents leading inside, and around lights (these bugs are attracted to the light from windows, doors, etc). For indoors, spray Demon right along the bottom of door frames and use Eco PCO D-X Dust to dust in walls voids, and in cracks and crevices (such as under baseboards) where bugs may be hiding or harboring. The Eco PCO D-X Dust should be applied only every 4 months. Check attics and crawl spaces as the bugs may be hiding and breeding in those areas as well. A monthly re-application is necessary for best results.
