Extinguish Plus combines the power of hydramethylnon with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to kill fire ant workers and prevent queens from laying fertile eggs. The result is complete fire ant colony control. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is best used in the spring or early fall, or whenever fire ants are active. The ants will feed off Extinuish Plus and spread the bait throughout the entire colony, halting the infestation within weeks. Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can be used indoors and outdoors on lawns, pasture land, rangeland, landscaped areas, and golf courses.
TIPS: This product can take 4 to 7 days to see results, however, you should only apply this product if the soil temperature is about 65 degrees, it is not going to rain within 8 hours, and the fire ants are foraging. It is recommended to broadcast the treatment instead of mound treat for best results, and you should apply the product where the ground is in the sun, since this is where fire ants will nest. You can use this product on pastureland. It may be applied to grass forage (pasture and rangeland) for the control of fire ants only in the following states - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
No grazing restrictions for companion animals, (horses, llamas etc).

Now you can have fast acting, long lasting fire ant control. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is the only dual active fire ant bait that kills the workers and sterilizes the queen. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is highly attractive to fire ants. It combines the killing speed of an adulticide (Hydramethylnon) and the long-lasting control of an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) (S-Methoprene). The IGR sterilizes the queen and prevents rebound, while the fast acting adulticide kills problem worker ants. This two-way action ensures complete control of fire ants.
- Controls and eliminates colonies without colony relocation
- Stops young colonies from developing into problem colonies
- Destroys visible and hidden colonies
- Approved for indoor and outdoor use
- Starts killing ants immediately after ingestion
- Can be used as a broadcast application or used to treat individual mounds
- Can be used on pasture and rangeland
When should I apply the bait?
- While spring and fall are the best time to apply the bait, you may apply as needed, when ants are active and foraging (usually early morning or late afternoon with soil temperatures above 60° F).
- To determine when ants are foraging, place a potato chip near the mound. If ants do not feed in a few minutes, try the test again later and apply product when feeding occurs.
- Apply product when area is dry from dew or irrigation. Do not apply product within 6 hours of a rain event. Wet bait is unattractive to ants.
- Use 1.5 pounds per acre.
- Spread with a hand-held spreader, backpack, motorized equipment or aircraft.
- Set the spreader at the lowest setting, treating the outer perimeter first. Then apply in a strip pattern within that area.
Individual mound treatment
- Use 2-5 tablespoons per mound.
- Distribute bait uniformly around each mound.
- Do not disturb mound during application.
Refillable bait stations
- Place one refilaable bait station such as the Ant No More Bait Station every 15-30 feet along the perimeter of a structure or fence line. Also place them near potential entry points, including weep holes, foundation vents, stairs and decks.
- Place up to 2 tablespoons of bait per station.
- Inspect stations frequently and replenish bait as it is soiled or has become wet.
Apply bait ONLY into crack and crevices. Apply 2 teaspoons - 1 tablespoon per crack, crevice or other in accessible areas where ants are entering the structure or where ants are nesting.
Is Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait or Extinguish Plus waterproof? How do weather conditions affect it?
If Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait or Extinguish Plus gets wet, it will have reduced palatability, and therefore reduces results. The product should be applied while ground conditions are dry and where rainfall is not expected for more that six hours. Most foraging ants will pick up the bait within six hours after placement.

Fire Ants in Tampa, Florida
By David in Tampa, Florida on 06/13/2010
A friend of mine from Texas recommended this product to me. I am allergic to Fire Ant toxins. When I sprinkle this stuff over the mound, the ants grab it quickly and take it down the ant hole. The mound and ants are gone by the next day.

I had high hopes for Extinguish Plus after reading an in-depth online review on fireant control from Texas. It was listed as one of the most cost-effective treatments - and I took the bait (pun intended). I have a 3 acre lot and the recommended application rate was 1 - 1.5 lbs / acre.... so, the 4.5 lb should have been just what I needed - right? Well, it sounded like a good idea until the product arrived.... the volume of the 4.5 lbs is quite small, making it next to impossible to accurately distribute over a large area with any common hand or drop spreader. I called DoMyOwnPestControl first to see if they had any recommendations.... the naive young lady who answered my call told me MOST people buy the 20 lb bag....... that would be about 7 times the recommended application rate (and over $200)!!! I'm sure the EPA would not look favorably on such wreckless advice. I then called the manufacturer - they recommended I map out 20' by 20' grids and apply the product in small mounds at the intersection of the grid lines...... so, that's what I did - a painstaking process that took several hours. I checked the bait after application and did see ants foraging the material. It's been over 2 weeks now - and the ants are as thick as they ever were... I detect little, if any, effectiveness. I would have done just as well to throw $70+ in nickles, dimes and pennies over the lawn. Don't waste your money (or time) with this product unless you plan on overdosing the environment with a 20 lb bag.....

Extinguish Plus for Myrmica Rubra
By Jeremy in Portland, Maine on 07/08/2010
I have been studying the effectiveness of various toxins in controlling a serious northern fire ant infestation on a small island off the coast of Maine. So far, the most practical combination seems to be an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) followed by Hydramethylnon. Initially, I used Methoprene (Extinguish) and hydramethylnon (Amdro) sequentially, separated by about a week, then, a few weeks later, followed up with the two together (Extinguish-Plus). This seems to have virtually eliminated the fire ants from the treated area, at least for the present season. In another area, I used the Extinguish-Plus alone about a week ago. So far I have seen many piles of dead ant carcasses, indicating that the bait is working, but there are still plenty of worker ants busily carrying away more carcasses, so only more time will tell whether the substances used together is as good as the two used separately. I welcome the experience of others using these and other toxins.

Extinguish + works but you have to follow the rules...
By Jo in Coastal North Carolina on 03/12/2013
We have had perfect results with this product for many years. You HAVE to understand HOW it works to be successful. Our process is as follows: 1. When ambient ground temp is 65 degrees (1st week of May typically), we broadcast 2 lbs per acre (looks like nothing, but it is sufficient), on a day when no rain is expected for at LEAST 3 days following. 2. Mound treat as needed through the summer. We are bordered by farm fields that are NOT treated, the edge of the field always need "help" and we can not treat their land. 3. Broadcast a second time in late September when no rain is expected and before a cold snap hits. Soil temperature is essential.

Best product I have tried
By Steve in Cullman, Alabama on 05/14/2014
I have been using Extinguish Plus for the past 3 years. I have found it to be effective in controlling the population of fire ants. I use a Herd Kasco GT-77-ATV Broadcast Seeder/Spreader for ATV's to distribute Extinguish Plus. I follow the instructions provided by Auburn University based on the Moundville Study. The study reveals that it is better to eliminate most of the mounds, not all and let the remaining ones kill off new invaders. I apply in May and late August and only when the ants are active. Late in the day, after sundown. Drop a few potato chips around and if ants are present in 15 to 39 minutes, it is the time to apply. There seems to be a residual effect as I find fewer new mounds before treatment. Precision application is the key and the spreader provides exact distribution.

Misleading - Probably need to double/triple application
By Tim in Anderson, SC on 10/08/2012
I used as directed to treat individual amounts and of all the many ant hills I treat, only 1 very small hill was "extinguish"ed. In fact, the hills have now spread and multiplied so not only am I out $25 for a wasted effort, I now need to spend extra on another application. Upon application, I could observe the ants readily feeding and harvesting the bait - so it was certainly attractive, but ultimately mostly ineffective. Very disappointed because I read many great reviews on this product. Since I am trying to keep to a budget, I looked for a product that would do the job in one shot.

This Stuff Works
By Charles in Port St Lucie, Florida on 09/24/2012
If you follow the directions this stuff actually kills off the fire ant colony. Unlike other products you use very little and do not have to wet it in. It is by far the most effective fire ant killer that I have ever used in my 2 acre yard

Where'd they go?
By Jerry in Brandon, MS on 08/14/2012
We bought 5 acres that had been ignored for some time with fire ants everywhere! Didn't know what a growth regulator was but thought I'd try this stuff since it was so highly rated. My next question, where'd the ants go? No more stinging dust clouds while mowing and the dog can play with the geese without getting bit. The negative...this stuff is so fine it is very very hard to spread thin enough to get the coverage rate recommended (I suggest you apply in stripes 20' apart instead of solid coverage and spot treat visible mounds in between,... or maybe mix with cornmeal to extend volume...haven't tried that yet so don't know) Oh yeah, read the directions, don't apply when its going to rain, not in cool weather (read dates on negative comments) and spot treat "around" the mound not "on" the mound. I'm sold and will use this again.

I dealt with ant problems many years ago and had your basic spraying exterminators come by, which didn't stop the problem at all. Then I found a great exterminator who used bait to sterilize the queen and therefore end the colony. So when I searched and searched for something to stop the hybrid red ants that were biting my (and my dogs') feet every time we were outside, I found Extinguish, and was very hopeful it would do the same. It did! This was so easy, the ants went for it right away and started dragging down their holes. Within a couple days they were gone!

Extinguish Plus - Works Great!!
By Garrett on 10/27/2011
We bought a new house and the backyard had a harvester ant colony with a couple nests. I ordered the 1lb jar, sprinkled some a couple inches away from the nest openings in the morning when they were active. As soon as I put it down they started bringing it back to the nest. At first it was only a couple ants foraging, but after a few minutes hundreds were grabbing it and taking it back. After the first day there was a noticeable decrease in activity in the colony, and I noticed numerous dead carcasses around the nest openings. After the 3rd day all activity had ceased and I haven't seen a harvester ant since. Very pleased!

Too early to tell
By Dave in Bradenton, FL on 12/31/2010
I moved into a new property where the prior owners weren't so good about treating for fire ants and there were hills everywhere. With 3 dogs I wanted to make sure that the yard was safe for them so I spread this over 3 acres in November and within about a week all the active ant hills died. Within the next week, however, I noticed new ant hills sprouting up and have been spot treating them. Come springtime I plan to do another broadcast spreading and am hopeful that will get things under control.

QIs Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait harmful to horses, dogs and cats?
How soon can pets be released in a treated area?
AExtinguish Plus cannot be used in areas where horses will graze. For grazing areas only the Extinguish (not the Extinguish PLUS) can be used. Extinguish Plus is safe to use around dogs and cats, they just need to be out of the area while the application is being made.
QCan we broadcast it using a fertilizer spreader? We have 4 dogs, safe after 2 hrs. to let them outside?
We have a 1/2 acre garden completely infested with fire ants. We live in South Florida. Is the product available from a home store or garden center?
AYou can use any hand spreader to apply Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait as long as you can calibrate it to the proper usage rate. Your dogs can safely return to the treated area 12 hours after the application according to the product label. Product labels are always available on our website on each individual product page. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is a professional product and is not available at local home stores or garden centers, it is only available online. We do provide fast, free shipping and it only takes 2-3 business to ship orders to to Florida.
QQuestion about using fire ant granule near fruit trees?
We live in Texas, and have fire ants in many places around our yard. We also have several fruit trees in our yard, and there are fire ants close to or at the base of these trees as well. The product label says that it should not be used close to fruit bearing trees. So if I cannot apply it a few feet within the tree, won't the fire ants from the base of the tree just restart the colonies that would have been killed elsewhere in the lawn?
AExtinguish Fire Ant granular bait is a food product that the ants will be attracted to. Although the label states to not use it near fruit bearing trees, you can apply it away from the trees in the yard and when the fire ants are out foraging for food they will find the extinguish granules and take them back to the nest. Unfortunately there is not a fire ant product that is labeled for use on or very near fruit bearing trees.
QWhat is the best way to broadcast Extinguish plus Fire Ant Bait on a 10,000 sq ft lawn?
AYou can apply the Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait either by treating the individual mounds separately with 2 to 5 tablespoons per mound, or you can broadcast the treatment by using a hand held spreader and using 3 ounces per 5000 square feet.

Qhow long do you have to wait, after applying extinquish plus, to grow crops in the area treated?
have an area treated with extinquish plus that i wish to use as a garden area in 2014.
AYou want to wait at least one year after applying Extinguish Plus to Garden.
06/21/2015 Kim from East, Central Florida
QHow often can Extinguish Plus be applied? Is it safe to use in flower beds?
I will be applying it using a hand spreader and since we have so many ant colonies developing underground (I see them when I dig in the garden) with no visible mounds yet, broadcasting seems to be the most effective solution. I don't want to kill my flowers though.
AExtinguish Plus is a bait for ants so its primarily made up of food ingredients. There is nothing in the bat that would harm your flowers or plants and you can reapply as often as needed.
04/25/2015 Edgar from Foley, Alabama
QWhat is the best product to kill fire ants?
AWe would recommend using Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait. This can be either be used as a broadcast or by doing individual mound treatments. Ants must be foraging for this to work. You should not apply this product in the late fall or winter of ants are not foraging...it will not work! Also, bait must remain dry. Do not apply if it is going to rain within 8 hours.

QWhat can you use to get rid of fire ants in a horse pasture that will not harm grazing animals?
A Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait would be a good choice for you. Extinguish Plus can be used on pasture land and there are no grazing restrictions for companion animals. Below you will see the grazing info available on the Extinguish Plus product label. EXTINGUISH PLUS may be applied to grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) for the control of fire ants
only in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas,
Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Use on grass forage
(pastures and rangeland) in states other than those
listed is unlawful. See Outdoor Use table for
application directions. Do not exceed 8 pounds per
acre per year or more than 4 times a year, with a
minimum re-treatment interval of 90 days. Do not bale
and cut treated pastures and rangelands for 7 days
following application. These cutting and baling hay
restrictions for pasture and rangeland do not apply
when the treated pasture and rangeland is used solely
to support COMPANION ANIMALS (e.g., horses,
llamas, etc.). Companion animals grazed on treated
areas cannot be used for food or feed. EXTINGUISH®
PLUS may be used on uncultivated, agricultural, nonfood
crop and non-agricultural land.

QHow often do you need to apply Extinguish once soil temperatures are above 60 degrees?
AYou only need to apply it once to to eliminate the ants that are present at the time of the application (as long as it does not rain). If more ants come into the area, you would then need to reapply the product. This product should only be used when the ants are active.
QWhich spreader can spread stuff evenly at such a low rate 3 oz per 5000 sq.ft.
Or is even spreading not required for this bait?
AAt that small of an amount you are correct it is almost impossible to truly evenly distribute the product. Most of our customers distribute by hand, concentrating on higher areas of activity, or they mound treat individually. Some use spreaders, set at the smallest setting to let out the least amount of product and walk evenly over the area as much as possible.
QI have odorous house ants living year round in my walls in my house in Missouri.
I realize they like the moisture in the kitchen and bathroom. I am clean! I have watched them and cannot tell where their nests are, but I am certain they have taken residency in my walls. If I have this product, I am not sure where to apply it.
AExtinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait is not labeled for odorous house ants. We recommend you use both an ant bait gel and an ant bait granule to be sure that the ants will accept a bait. We have both baits together in our Complete Ant Kit. You will need to place the bait near the areas where see ant activity and foraging.
QHow can I rid my home of fireants?
I have been fighting fire ants in my entire home all summer long. I have gotten rid of all of them except in my master bathroom. I can't find out where they are coming from. There is no trail and there is no nest or mound under the home. I wonder if they are in the wall behind the bathtub because the only place we see them is in and around the bathtub.
AWe would recommend using Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait in the wall void and other cracks or crevices to control the fire ant infestation. Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait has two active ingredients, hydramethylnon to help kill the ants and methoprene to sterilize the queens and prohibit normal growth of juvenile ants. Extinguish Plus is one of the most effective fire ant baits on the market and most folks see results within just a few days. Apply 0.25 - 0.5 ounce (2 teaspoons – 1 tablespoon) per crack, crevice, or other inaccessible areas where ants are entering the structure or where ants are nesting.
QWe live in the Puna district on the big island of Hawaii, and we have (Wasmannia auropunctat) little fire ant.
What product do you recommend for eradication? These insects like peanut butter, or other oils, like avocado, not so much sweet. They are a real danger. I am thinking that a bait and spray will be the most effective. In the past, I have tried Optigard, Suspend SC and Cynoff with some success. I really like Optiguard, but its effectiveness is somewhat limited, as we have rain almost every day. I have found NO bait that the ants are attracted to, besides peanut butter.
AWe have not had an experience with this exact species of ant. We did do a little research and the most recommended product was Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait that contains the active ingredients hydramethylnon and S-Methoprene (methoprene is an insect growth regulator and helps to stop the growth of eggs, larva and juvenile ants). Extinguish is a protein based bait and should prove to be more attractive than liquid or gel baits that you may have used in the past as those are carbohydrate or sweet based baits Generally, an eradication attempt will require at least 4-5 treatments with an appropriate poison bait over a two year period plus extensive monitoring for several additional years. Because this ant species is not wide spread there has not been wide spread research and there are not any products that are directly labeled for them.
QIs Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait waterproof? How do weather conditions affect it?
AIf Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait gets wet, it will have reduced palatability, and therefore reduces results. The product should be applied while ground conditions are dry and where rainfall is not expected for more that six hours. Most foraging ants will pick up the bait within six hours after placement.
QAre Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait Granules harmful to pets?
A No, Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait Granules are a very safe solution to fire ants. When you apply this product, you normally would broadcast it over your lawn in such a small amount there would not be enough of it in one place for your pet to consume. This product is only strong enough to kill a very small ant. Of course (like any other product), you would want to make sure that you keep the opened bag of granules in a safe place where the pet could not get into the open bag.
