Pretty Good...But Pricey
By on 07/22/2013
I needed a rechargeable backpack sprayer to replace a 10 year old Rocket that died. I maintain a 5 acre yard and want lower volume and precision. Not being able to do a hands-on comparison of the higher end sprayers I had to rely on online descriptions and reviews. I ordered the FSTP-18-W and have used it for several hours. Overall I think it is pretty good. On the plus side is the multi-speed control which I mostly keep on a low setting. It is fairly lightweight and comfortable to wear. I like the stability of the metal wand and the included pour-in screen. It is very quiet, only a little whistle from the air intake. On the negative side there is no cover over the battery and motor which I think is damage waiting to happen for someone who hauls their equipment around a lot. (Taking mine out of the box I found one clip that slides onto a battery terminal had been pulled off it's wire just during shipping.) The battery charger uses little alligator clips which work but it's a pretty rinky-dink system...come on this is the USA, surely we can do something better especially at this price. The battery "health meter" which I thought I'd like, actually goes up and down in direct relationship to the multi-speed control setting, and shows I need to recharge whenever I set the speed on low, so it doesn't seem to be of any use to me. I think the gun/wand handle would be hard to use by someone with a small hand. I know it seems my cons outweigh my pros but I do like this sprayer for home use and it works well for me...but it could be improved. I ordered from the manufacturer which costs $22 more for shipping, but they allow you to try it out with water and return it if you choose. DoMyOwnPestControl's return policy says it's yours when you open the box unless there's a defect. With the high cost of this sprayer that peace of mind was worth it to me.
