    What can I do to get rid of an outdoor rat problem?
    I have been battling an outdoor rat problem for some time now. The problem is in my front yard, and I live in a row of town houses. I believe the problem is coming from under my neighbors deck. They have a lot of clutter and garbage. I've called the NYC Department of Health, and they have come out a few times but done nothing. In May, I purchased three bait boxes and filled them with Contac blox and Fastrac blox. I also (with the neighbor's permission) threw some poison under their deck into the burrows. Over the next few days, we found about seven dead rats. I thought the problem was over. I have not seen any more dead rats since, but the bait goes missing. Could they not be dying? Dying elsewhere? Could there be so many rats that the problem isn't resolved six months later? Last night, I heard some banging around outside. I looked out my window, and I saw what seemed to me a HUGE rat with it's head in the bait box. It was trying to get its body in but couldn't. It just kept moving the box around. When it finally gave up it, it walked across my front yard and activated my motion light. I could see more clearly, but I couldn't see its face. This was bigger than any rat I have ever seen, and it had a very long, hairless tail dragging. It was brown, the size of a cat, fat and was waddling. Could this have been a rat? I live in NYC, there isn't much wild life here. I'm not sure what else to do or if anything can be done about my rat problem. This is very nerve wracking coming home after dark and wondering if you're going to spot a rat.

    You are on the right track, but you may need to put out more bait boxes in more locations around your property. Once the rat eats the bait, they will usually be dead in 1-5 days depending on which bait they ate and how much of the bait they ate.Rats will die wherever they succumb to the bait which may or may not be in a visible area. Be sure to keep the bait boxes filled with fresh bait for best results. And yes, you could potentially have a rat population so large that it takes many, many months to get rid of them. Another explanation of course is that nothing has been done in the way of cleaning up your neighbors property, so new rats keep moving in to take over the space left behind by the rats that you have already eliminated. As for the huge "rat" that is the size of a cat that could not fit into the bait box? This was most likely an opossum. Rat bait boxes are made so that larger animals like raccoons and opossums cannot fit inside of it to avoid accidental poisoning of non-target animals.

    Our three most popular rat baits are: Fastrac Blox- which offers the fastest kill (about 12-24 hours) and is considered the top choice for rodent infestation cleanouts. Many folks choose Fastrac Blox because it is one of the few that can still be purchased in the smaller 4 lb pail. Contrac Blox - kills in about 3-7 days and is usually chosen as a maintenance bait. Contrac also has a readily available antidote in case of accidental ingestion by non-target animals or children. Final Blox - Kills in about 2-4 days and is used when there is still a high pest pressure and then as a maintenance bait.

    Is there an expiration date on the Fastrac Blox?
    A
    No. We recommend using the bait within a year of the purchase date. While the active ingredient will last indefinitely, rodent baits include food based ingredients and can start to degrade over time making them unattractive to rodents. You should store bait in a cool, dry environment to keep them fresh longer.

    Will the dead rats killed by this poison effect other animals should they eat the rat carcass?

    Rats that have eaten the bait and then die are supposed to be removed and disposed of if they are found. Animals that eat exposed carcasses will usually have to eat many carcasses before they receive enough bait to have a reaction, but a secondary poisoning is possible. Terad3 Blox is a newer product that has a lower risk of secondary poisoning should a predatory animal eat a rat carcass.

    Can I dip Fastrac Blox in bacon grease?
    I've used bacon grease to attract norway rats to a bait station in the past, and they seemed to love it. Can I dip Fastrac Blox in bacon grease before placing them in the bait station, or will this affect the poision?

    We do not think dipping Fastrac in bacon grease would affect the poison in the bait, but the bait is made from food sources to attract the rodents.  We would recommend trying the bait as is at first as it is manufactured to be attractive to rodents as it is.

    If a rat dies after eating Fastrac and my dog gets to the rat, it is dangerous/fatal to my dog?
    A
    There is a risk of secondary poisoning with Fastrac Blox. However, a dog would need to consume 15% of his body weight of Fastrac via a poisoned rodent for it to be fatal. Typically, pets do not "eat" dead rodents, instead they see them as a toy and tend to play with them rather than consume them.

    After three weeks Fastrac has not worked at all, would it be prudent to try another type of bait?
    I have used fastrac in two sidekick and 1 protecta station for three weeks.The bait has been changed,kept fresh and placed according to istructions however, it has not been touched . The rats seen are increasing in numbers. I have had some luck with the T-rex system, using peanut butter (catching 3 rats) But they are not taking the bait. What else can or should I be doing??

    Fastrac is one of the best rodent baits on the market because it is highly palatable and has a fast kill. If the rats aren't taking this bait it is unlikely they will take any other solid bait. It is important to load the stations with bait, place them in high activity areas and then leave them alone for a couple of weeks. Rats do not like new things and they will often avoid going near stations that are disturbed often. You should also try to remove alternate food sources so that the rats will have to feed on the bait. This can be tricky in some situations but is a very important step when implementing a rat control program.

    Can I break up the bait blocks?
    I need to be able to put the bait in corners all over can I break them up to toss behind the refrigerator and stove and in closets and behind counters? I have no kids or pets to worry about.

    Each block of Fastrac measures 1.75" by .75" each. It will not be necessary to break them up to put them behind the fridge and stove, however, you can if you would like to.

    Do I need Protecta mouse bait stations with this product?
    Do i really have to use fastrac blox with the bait stations to kill mice in the crawl space in the attic or may i just place the blocks on the floor fro mice to find them?

    According to the new EPA regulations you must use the blocks in tamper resistant stations if there is any chance at all that the bait could be contacted by non-target animals or children at any time. Attics and crawlspaces will not be blocked off permanently so you are supposed to use the bait in the tamper resistant stations. This will also help stop mice/rats from moving the blocks from where you put them and into spaces where they could cause harm to non target animals or children.

    Will Fastrac Blox work on chipmunks? Will they like it and/ or eat it?

    Fastrac Blox are not labeled for chipmunks. If they ingest it, they will likely die since it is a poison.

    Which one of your rodent block baits are most effective for FAST killing of mice and rat?
    A
    Our quickest killing rodent bait is our Fastrac Blox. The Fastrac is a purple block that will fit in any of the bait stations we carry. Fastrac requires the rodents to consume a lesser amount of bait to acquire a lethal dose, and once consumed will kill the rodent within 24-48 hours. Most other rodent baits will kill in 2-5 days and require the rodent to eat more of the bait block to get a lethal dose. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Do you sell fastrac. And is it good for getting rid of huge rats?

    We do sell Fastrac Blox on our website and it is labeled for Norway rats and Roof rats. Be sure to place the bait into tamper resistant bait stations to avoid having non-target animals ingest the bait. Place the bait stations directly into the travel paths of the rats for the best results.

    Is Final Blox efficient against field mice infestation? I have already purchased 18 lbs without any result.
    I also have squirrels and rabbits near by my house, and I suspect that they're sharing this food with them. I wish for some help in this regard, or if you have other products for field mice.

    Voles, also known as field mice, go through periods where their numbers suddenly explode. During these times a property that normally only has 50 or so voles can suddenly have 1,000 voles. If the voles on your property are going through this type of population explosion, keeping up with their numbers can be daunting. Final Blox will kill voles if they are indeed eating it but you must always keep the bait available. You need to keep applying the bait or switch to a bait that works a bit faster such as Fastrac Blox. Be sure to place the bait into tamper resistant bait stations to avoid having non-target animals ingest the bait. Place the bait stations directly into the travel paths that the voles have made.     What will attract the rats into the bait station with Fastrac All-Weather Blox? Will putting peanut butter help?
    I noticed the rats where not eating the Fastrac.
    A

    Fastrac All-Weather Blox contain food grade attractants already in them.  You should not add anything else to the blocks or bait stations.  Be sure you’ve removed all competing food sources so that the rodents are forced to consume the blocks.  If there are other food sources around, they will continue to go to those sources and avoid the rodenticide.  Be sure you’re not handling the blocks or the bait stations with your bare hands, leaving behind your scent on these items will deter rodents from entering the stations and feeding on the bait.  Ensure you have fresh bait readily available for the rodents.  If baits become stale, moldy, wet, etc, it will no longer be attractive to the rodents.  Lastly, rodents, rats especially, are very hesitant to check out new objects in their areas.  You should bait the stations and leave them alone for a couple of weeks to allow the rodents to become used to it being there, and eventually they will become curious enough to begin to check it out.  Mice are slightly more opportunistic and will go in before a rat will.  Please take a moment to view our How To Treatment Guides and Videos for lots of helpful information for successfully getting rid of rodents.

    Why do you discourage the use of Fastrac Blox inside homes?
    A

    We always try to get our customers to avoid using rodenticides such as Fastrac Blox indoors because you can't control where a rodent goes to die after consuming a lethal dose of rodenticide. If the rodent dies in a wall void or other inaccessible location, this can cause issues with odor in the home if you are not able to remove the dead rodent. For this reason we recommend using glue boards, snap traps, and/or multi-catch traps indoors, so that you will know exactly where the rodent has died and can remove it with ease.

    I live in a 1950s ranch in Atlanta, GA. In my crawlspace it looks like there may be some rodent activity. I have recently heard them at night gnawing on things and scratching under the floors. What is my best method to get rid of these? Should I use bait stations and traps or just the bait stations? I want to avoid having a house that stinks due to dead rodents as well.

    We recommend using bait inside bait stations outside the home and using traps in areas directly under the house or in areas where you have seen the rodents traveling. Baiting outside the home with the single feed anticoagulant rodenticide Fastrac in the Protecta Rat Bait Stations is a great combination. Fastrac has a quick kill knockdown time of 12-48 hours after feeding. A great trap to use is the Trapper T -Rex Trap.
