GENERAL INFORMATION

Ferti•lome COME & GET IT! FIRE ANT KILLER contains Spinosad, which is biologically derived from the fermentation of Saccropolyspora spinosa, a naturally occuring soil organism.

Ferti•lome COME & GET IT! FIRE ANT KILLER is attractive and deadly to foraging Red Imported Fire Ants (Solenopsis invicta) and is readily taken back into the nest as food for the colony. The active ingredient in the bait is distributed throughout the colony, killing the ants including the queen. Fire ants and harvester ants that consume the bait will appear sick and lethargic within 12 to 24 hours. Dead ants will frequently be seen near the treated mounds 24-36 hours after application. The entire colony, including the queen, will usually be controlled within 3 to 14 days after treatment, depending on environmental conditions. Control of extremely large colonies may take longer or require reapplication. If reapplication is required, use specified mound or broadcast application rates at intervals of no less than 14 days until control is achieved. Control may be slower with broadcast applications than with individual mound treatments. Maintain the freshness and attractiveness of the bait by keeping the container tightly sealed and using the product within the season of purchase.

  • Lawns and other turfgrass areas
  • Recreational areas, including golf courses, parks, playgrounds, and playing fields
  • Ornamentals growing outdoors
  • Tree Nuts, Citrus, Stone Fruit, Tropical Tree Fruit, and Vegetables

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS

APPLICATION TIMING:

Apply when ants are active (usually when temperatures are warmer than 60ºF). The best time to apply is in the cooler early morning or late evening hours when fire ant and harvester ant foraging is at its peak. Time tillage operations to avoid interference with foraging and consumption of the bait by fire ants and harvester ants. To prevent damage to seeds and seedling crops, apply 7 to 28 days before planting. To reduce stings during harvest or other activities, apply 7 to 28 days before the scheduled activity.

MOUND APPLICATION:

Apply according to the rate table below. Evenly distribute the bait over the mound and extend out to about 2 feet surrounding the mound. Do not disturb mound before, during or after treatment. Avoid mowing or tillage operations before or after application. Disturbing the mound may cause the Ants to relocate. If mound disturbance cannot be avoided, supplement mound treatments with a broadcast application. If rain occurs within 6 hours of application, adequate foraging off the bait may not occur and retreatment may be necessary.

BROADCAST APPLICATION:

Apply according to the rate table below. Distribute as evenly as possible over the infested area with a calibrated rotary-type hand-held, PTO, electric or ground driven spreader. Broadcast applications will control established mounds and new colonies that are just becoming established. Applica-tions every 2 months during the warm part of the year when the ants are active will help keep invading queens from establishing new colonies. If rain occurs within 12 hours of application, adequate foraging may not have occurred and retreatment may be necessary.

Works Great for Us in GA

    By Evelyn on 07/25/2014

I don't know why it didn't work for other reviewers, but it has been vital for us for the last few years. All those mounds are likely one colony, which can extend up to an acre. It may not wipe out the colony, but it has kept our yard clear of mounds and safe for the kids without chemicals. I have to reapply every few weeks, whenever a new mound pops up, but I don't think that is unexpected or unreasonable.

Works great if you follow directions!

    By Ken on 04/10/2018

I have used Come and Get It fire ant bait on my yard in Texas for several years with excellent results. We have chickens, dogs, and grandchildren so don't use chemical pesticides. This bait works. Yes it says you'll see some dead ants in 24 hours but it does NOT say all ants will be dead! In my experience usually the entire mound will be dead in 2 or 3 days and ant activity will be diminished for sure (you might still see a few ants after a day or 2). Do NOT disturb the mound for at least a couple of days. Total kill may take 5 to 7 days. Use as directed on the label and it will work.

    Doesn't work

    By Cindy on 05/09/2013

    Verified Purchase

Fire ants moved into my compost pile. I wanted to use something organic to not ruin my compost. I used up most of the bag over a weeks time and nothing happened. Now Im just trying to get them to leave by disturbing them daily.

    DOESN'T WORK

    By Bill on 05/21/2013

I tried this on 10 mounds I had in my yard. It says dead ants in 24 hours. It has been over 24 hours and y ants are still running around. I think it is just food for them. I will not buy this again.

    Fire ant hills from hell

    By Lynn on 06/01/2018

I bought a 5 acre place last fall and by this spring realized I must have 40 hills of ants! I bought a couple of pounds of this stuff and it seemed to work, so I bought the 12 pack. It's all gone and I still am finding a couple little startup hills, but I consider that pretty good. I'll have to buy more and hopefully they will be easier to maintain. They no longer are stripping whole trees I planted of their leaves in one day. Yeah!!!! (You may have to treat them 2 or 3 times, if your hills are as established as mine were.)

A

Ferti-Lome Come and Get It! Fire Ant Killer does not have any recommendations on the label for chickens. So you would most likely need to keep them out of the treatment area for at least 48 hours.
