Flies-be-gone Fly Traps are easy to use:
-
Hang trap at least 30 feet away from the area you want to protect (such as your home) in direct sunlight and about 5 feet off the ground. Add the bait packet provided.
-
Add 1 quart of water.
-
Add a pinch of soil to the mixture.
- Place the lid on the trap and watch the flies leave your protected area and come to the trap. New flies go to the trap instead of to your house.
How does it work?
Flies-be-gone traps appeal strongly to a flies' natural instincts. It provides them with food and a warm place to lay eggs. Once inside the trap, they cannot escape. Flies-be-gone bait is especially appealing to female flies. Up to 85% of flies caught are female, which helps decrease the next generation of flies.
Regular use results in a noticeable decrease in the overall fly population of an area.

Tough call. Works great ... but

This thing catches flies ... period. However, in the end it really didn't change the number of flies we found in the house. There was a very slight decrease, we think, but can't necessarily contribute that to the traps. Note, we are keeping them because they do catch flies very well. But it didn't quite solve our flies in house problem.

Flies Be Gone Fly Trap

The trap works great, did just as advertised. The only problems I had with it was it's unsightly after you have it up for two weeks. It's gross to see all those dead flies but mostly it started to smell terrible. We had it about 40 feet from our pavilion. But it did work so if you had it some place out of the way it would be great.

The flies are already out. I live near horses and the flies have spread. These attract them and keep them off of our pet's food.

Living in Uganda in a house where we are surrounded by pigs, chickens, ducks, dog, cows and all of their associated manure, my husband and I found that our food and (more importantly!) beers were being constantly dive-bombed by big blue flies all day. I bought 5 of these just to try them out and now I need to buy a whole case of them. The first one I filled didn't work well and attracted very few flies- I had used water from the national supply mains which is highly chlorinated. For the second trap I used rain water and it has been successful beyond my expectations. The trap is completely filled with flies and more of them are fighting with each other to get in. I highly recommend this product. I might even give these as Christmas gifts to some of my neighbors!

Disappointed

When I called in to purchase the trap, I specifically asked if I could use the product in an attic. The salesman advised that yes I could. I did not want an odor as this is a business building. I received the traps and not only did they have a terrible odor but the instructions indicated NOT to use them under a roof!! This sole reason I purchased 10 traps (at $15 each!) was to use them in the attic of our building. I do not know if the product works as I was not able to use them.

Love it!!
By Bridget on September 23, 2012I loved this fly trap!! I couldn't believe how effective it was. Made it not only tolerable, but pleasant to sit outside on the porch!! For some reason, the biting flies were really bad this past summer. After I set out this trap, the difference was noticeable within a couple of days. Very easy to set up. It's nice to see the flies attracted to it almost immediately. Thank you for making this product!!

April 13, 2011Anne asked:
QWhat is the best way to dispose of the fly trap without nasty liquid & flies spilling?
I like the way liquid traps get the flies but have always been at a loss as to how best to dispose of them where we won't have "stinky juice" all over everything in trash can etc. Putting in plastic bags helps a little but they often leak as well. There was a trap, which I can't find any longer, that had a top that would screw/snap back down to seal the bag and its contents. Advice would be appreciated !
AThe manufacturer says to just place the trap in a plastic bag and dispose of it in the trash can. We agree with you that depending on the bag you place it in, leaking is a possibility. Most of us at the office use this product at our own homes. We place the trap in a gallon size Ziploc bag and then place that in a grocery plastic bag and dispose of the trap in the trash.
June 8, 2010Barb asked:
QMaggots are forming in the Flies-Be-Gone fly trap and the flies do not seem to be drowning, is the trap working
and the flies aren't sinking, so new flies entering don't drown. Any tips to handle these 2 situations??
AWhile having maggots form in the Flies-Be-Gone trap is ugly to look at, it is a good thing. It means you have captured female flies that were ready to lay eggs, eggs that if laid outisde the bag would produce more flies that could potentially contaminate your food, infest your home or drive you crazy by buzzing by your face over and over. And you needn't worry about whether or not the flies are drowning, once they are in the trap they cannot get out and will eventually die.
April 17, 2012Peter from Knightdale, Nc asked:
QWhat is the purpose of putting a "drop" of topsoil in the fly trap when it is set up?
I don't have real topsoil, only a reddish clay dirt, I just set up my first bag, temps here now in the 80's, but I did not put any dirt into the bag as suggested, please advise, thanks
AThe flies that you are trying to get to enter this trap are attracted to dirty water as this is where they would typically lay eggs and reproduce. Adding dirt to the solution in the bag will help make the trap more attractive to the flies. We do not recommend skipping this step.
June 1, 2010Lynne asked:
QWhich flies does the Flies Be Gone trap catch?
Im looking for a trap for horse flies and other biting flies around my horses, the flies in the photo seem pretty small.
AThe Flies Be Gone fly trap is labeled for use on dairy farms and stables and will catch all types of flies that hang out in these areas, including horse flies.
August 29, 2011Kevin from Navarre, Fl asked:
QWill this work for Biting Flies at the Beach?
I live on the Beach in the PanHandle of Florida and I get biting flies will this catch them or something else better?
AThe Flies-Be-Gone Fly Trap will work on any flies that are attracted to smell. The manufacturer states that the results have been mixed for biting flies on the beach. Sometimes they work great, and other times not so great. The manufacturer did say that if you are not satisfied with the results, they will refund your purchase personally if you would like to try them.
