The good, the bad, the ugly
By J. in Jackson, MS on May 13, 2011
Spray pattern is great. Cart and tank are well designed. Battery life is good because pump only runs on demand. Battery charger did not work. Replaced locally. Hose is too short and stiff. Also replaced locally. Would like longer spray wand. Could be a 5 star product with a few modifications and good quality control.

Needs some work!
By Jerry in Tiffin, OH on April 24, 2012
I have had three issues with the sprayer. First, the hard plastic hose is far too stiff to make it usable. I had to immediately change it to a rubber hose. Second, the center of gravity is off and the spray tips backwards towards the battery if there is not enough water in the tank to balance the batteries weight. Last, as others have reported, the battery charged indicator does not work. There is no way to know if the battery is charged regardless of how long it is on the charger.

UPDATE - Feedback on common issues
By Justin in Bardstown, KY on October 4, 2012
I wanted to give an update on this sprayer after reading through the reviews and using this personally. First common issue was the stiff hose. This will get flexible the more you use it. There are much cheaper coiled hoses that are thin and not durable. Second was the battery issue. The new version has a red and green indicator light on it so you know when it is charged. Third is the poly fittings. Keep in mind that many people use corrosive chemical in these and metal is not always an option. Lastly on the comments about the price. This is a steal for $229.99. the pump alone is $50, not to mention the $30 battery, 2 big spoked wheels (not cheap plastic) plus the heavy duty frame. I think this is a good product and they have addressed all the issues they had with the first model. Happy Spraying!

9 Gallon Master Gardner cart sprayer- battery powered
By A. in Libertyville, IL on June 22, 2011
It worked very well for the first 1.5 hr, I charged it up for the next day and it does not work now. The battery is not charging up. There is no battery life indicator, so if you run the battery out completely you void the warranty. It would be better if it had a manual pump option, so you could use it longer, and get the job done at one time. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this model with the battery system it presently has.
I LOVE my sprayer.
By Marsha in Colorado Springs, CO> on February 20, 2015
I purchased this sprayer in May 2014. I used it from mid May to Mid September every day. I didn't use it to spray weeds or trees but used it to clean pit toilets and put out fires. I'm a host at a campground in the Rocky mountains. This sprayer has made my job so much easier. It holds a good amount of water and has a pretty forceful spray. The hose was stiff so I changed it out for a rubber one. I added a hitch to my golf cart and it pulls nicely. The battery holds a good charge and is easy to recharge. I am very pleased with this purchase and would buy it again.
Back saver sprayer!
By Marcia in Lafayette on January 18, 2015
Fantastic home Gardner tool. Did replace the sprayer hose first thing with one from the hardware store (longer and more flexible) attached a 1 1/2" diameter piece of PVC vertically to the handle to keep the wand safe. Tank is sturdy. Sprays beautifully, far enough to do all my fruit trees and rolls easily on my pathways. I am thrilled to have it! I am going to use it to fertilize all my flowers and pots too. Battery charger light is questionable but battery works very well.

I have a big yard and used to take me good few days to spray but now I did it in one day with hardly any effort. The battery is good for 4 refills. The pressure is good the spray reach the tip of all my trees with no problem. Spraying is no hassle no more.

9 gallon master gardener cart sprayer
By Donald in fairfield, ohio on September 19, 2014
Reasonably good- the instructions for how to put it together could be improved-also the instructions for spraying from either the wand or the cart itself could be improved--but the sprayer is well made. Ideally gauges for battery life and fluid volume would be nice but not available for the price of $217.19--But it is definitely well made.

Pretty good sprayer, but......
By Sandra in Washington, DC on September 1, 2014
First, the sprayer itself works very well. Improvements might include an additional, more targeted nozzle for the hand-held wand (or an adjustable nozzle). The sprayer arrived in a box that had been opened, and the sprayer had been repacked. The already obscure directions were more difficult as there was no longer a "package A," etc. In addition, the battery was disconnected from the wiring, one of the hose connections leaked, and the top attachment of the back plate was broken off. We were able to fix both the battery connection and the leak (the broken top back plate attachment does not affect function), but it would have been easier if the illustration in the directions had been about 3 or 4 times larger, with pictures of the parts labeled more clearly! The repackaging is a distributor issue; the instructions are a manufacturer issue. But the sprayer does work well - easy to maneuver and decent battery life.

Great for Watering Remote Gardens
By Carl in Charles Town, WV on August 20, 2014
Great for Watering Remote Gardens Looking for a hand-cart sprayer, found 2 brands at other sites. Both get bad reviews. Master Gardener gets mostly good reviews, so ordered it. Having read directions and reviews, know not to overly discharge battery. So recharge after each tank-full. Iím content to put 9 gallons of water a day where needed most. In case of drought can go out more often but still limit battery usage to 9 gallons per charge. Donít leave sprayer out in rain because there are live electrical connections behind and underneath tank. To adjust spray pattern, twist tip of spraying wand. I donít have much use for the fine spray; I go for distance. I stand in one spot & spray the whole nine gallons into as large an area as I can reach. Because Iím simply holding the wand in front of me as I stand still, usually no problem with length of hose. But when tank is nearly empty and spray stream is shortening, I sometimes want to reach out to a nearby plant to give it a last drink, and hose fights me and can pull the tank over backwards. Son-in-law used sprayer once and definitely thinks hose is too short. To me, minor issue. While assembling, I read both printed manual that comes with the sprayer and online manual available here. Inconsistent. TEXT is more complete and accurate in printed manual, and ILLUSTRATIONS are more complete and accurate online! Other issues: Sprayer arrived with upper handle and tow bar missing. These were then shipped directly to me by manufacturer, to correct manufacturerís packing error. Drain cap at base of tank leaks water with slow drip. Never leave sprayer in shed with water in tank. If wand were stored vertically on sprayer, instead of across width (& beyond) of sprayer, would be much easier to maneuver the sprayer into and through shed without damaging wand or its clip holders. Batteries wear out, so thanks, DMOPC, for providing manufacturerís phone number for ordering new battery. However, wish I could order batteries right here. Donít like ordering by phone because then canít print a record of the order. And hope I donít have to replace the battery every season. Expensive. Overall, Iím pleased with this sprayer. Basically what I wanted, easy to use. (567-word review ruthlessly shortened to 392 words)

One use and I like
By Mark in Lancaster, PA on August 15, 2014
1) The wheels my unit came with are more like hard lawn mower wheels while the picture has more of a softer looking bicycle style wheel. 2) The unit does tip over (other reviews herein) when empty which is really annoying but I have flipped the handle to cure the imbalance and it is able to be pulled just fine. 3) The assembly instructions are really poor, no pictures and have to refer to parts map. Scratched my head a few times but figured out most of the complexity is for rigging up the 10 foot boom which I did not buy. Read the fine print to hook up the two black wires underneath or you will sit there wondering why nothing happens! 4) The unit sprays to about the top of an 18 to 20 foot hemlock so I am happy with the advertised throw distance. 5) WAY BETTER to pull 6-9 gallons than hurt your back with 4 gallon backpack sprayer - terrific not to have to pump - battery and pump performed very well. OVERALL - thrilled with purchase, for the price it is worth a try for sure.

March 24, 2011 Gary asked:
QCan you get the cart sprayer with a longer hose?
... or can I add a longer hose to it? Also, is the battery basically a garden tractor type battery?
AUnfortunately there is not an option to get a longer hose, however we do not see why you could not possibly lengthen or replace the hose section with a longer one. The battery is built into the side of the sprayer, but it is not a typical lawnmower battery. It actually requires very little power to utilize an electric sprayer. The rechargeable battery portion is very lightweight and smaller compared to a typical lawnmower battery.
May 2, 2011 Ukiah asked:
QCan you provide more information on the battery for this sprayer?
I have a portable sprayer with a rechargeable battery and I've run into some trouble with it's ability to recharge. The 12V batteries for my sprayer are expensive and hard to find, not to mention that they are only good for one season. I would like to know how and where to obtain replacement batteries for this product, and approximately how much they cost before I make a purchase. Thank you.
AThe battery is available through the manufacturer and the price of the battery is $69.99 with Free Shipping. We have had no complaints on the life of the battery to date so far.
May 24, 2011 Eric asked:

If the pump on and the nozzel is turned off will the pump turnoff auto or keep pumping pressure and if so will this damage the pump?
AThe pump, when activated, will begin to run until 40 psi is reached. The built in pressure switch will then shut off the pump. The 9 gallon cart sprayer has a max spray rate of 1 GPM.

Roni from 07871 asked:
Can I use this sprayer to do seal coating in my driveway?
We would not recommend using the 9 Gallon Master Gardener Cart Sprayer to do any type of sealing. This sprayer is used to spray herbicides, pesticides, and for watering. You should not use harsh chemicals in this sprayer. We would recommend using the Chapin 3.5 Gallon Concrete Sprayer if you want to do any type of sealing in your driveway. It is used for sealing, form oil and curing compound applications but not acetones.

Dorie from Mauston, Wi asked:
QWand hose coil issue
The coiled hose for the hand held wand is very stiff. Is there a way to loosen it up? Would you suggest I replace it locally with a straight hose? I know the coil is lengthy when stretched out but it awakward to try to use it that way.
A According to Master MFG you can either use a 3/8 x 3/8 hose mender and add the straight hose to the existing coiled hose on the 9 Gallon Master Gardener Cart Sprayer or replace it completely. However, please keep in mind that making these adjustments may void your manufacturer warranty.

Carl from Charles Town, Wv asked:
QMaybe you need to refine your answer to Eric's question on 5/24/11 about the product weight?
44 pounds might be the shipping weight. The weight on the mfr's box is 16.7 KG +- .15 KG, which is about 37 pounds. No weight is added by the customer during assembly.

Edna from Blounts Creek Nc asked:
QI have this sprayer love it. However I need to replace the tires we the tire size
Can I put a spolid rubber tire or something like pneumatic tires on this cart as the inner tubes keep blowing out or popping. If so what kind of tires can I use
