How Gentrol Aerosol IGR Works
The IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) in Gentrol Aerosol provides preventative action, since it disrupts stored product pests' normal development. Hydroprene, the active ingredient, prevents stored product pest, drain fly, and fruit fly larvae from progressing to the pupal stage of development, so the larvae die before they become breeding adults - and future infestations. Bedbugs and roaches exposed to Gentrol Aerosol will become adults incapable of reproducing, thus ending the cycle of an infestation. Gentrol IGR also stimulates egg-bearing female roaches to leave the harborage area and feed.
Since Gentrol Aerosol IGR is not an adulticide, it should be used in conjunction with other pest control treatment methods.
Bed bugs, drain flies, fruit flies, cockroaches, stored product pests
PESTS CONTROLLED WITH GENTROL AEROSOL IGR: Roaches, Stored Product Pests (including Indian meal moths, rice moths, tobacco moths, red flour beetles, confused flour beetles, lesser grain borers, merchant grain beetles, sawtooth grain beetles, warehouse beetles, cigarette beetles, and Dermestid beetles), Drain Flies, Fruit Flies, Bedbugs
Use Gentrol Aerosol for spot, void, or crack and crevice treatment of target pests as a supplement to other pest control methods. The aerosol form of Gentrol is convenient for treating flies around drains and sinks in homes, roaches in hollow table legs and voids in commercial kitchens, and bed bugs in hotels or homes. Gentrol Aerosol IGR has a foaming action for voids and a crack and crevice straw for hard to reach spots. The ready-to-use formulation is also convenient for small applications. Gentrol Aerosol IGR should not be used as the sole treatment for any of the listed pests as it is not an insecticide, just an insect growth regulator.
Gentrol Aerosol is ideal for:
- Retail Stores
- Food Processing and Storage Facilities
- Any Hard-to-Reach Area
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Hydroprene 0.36%
Gentrol Aerosol IGR Application Instructions
Shake well before use. As a general surface spray or spot treatment, Gentrol Aerosol is applied with a sweeping motion over a surface. Its visible, dissipating foam virtually eliminates the chance of missing any areas. You'll receive the same superior coverage for crack-and-crevice applications with Gentrol Aerosol's extension tube, designed for simple, accurate application in hard-to-reach areas.
To apply as a general surface or spot application, hold can 10” to 12” away from surface to be treated. Use a sweeping motion over the surface to be treated for complete coverage. This product applies as a light foam that dissipates readily. An oily residue may be apparent in heavy applications. The visibility of the dissipating foam eliminates the possibility of missed areas. For crack and crevice applications, use the supplied extension tube and apply to wall voids, hollow table legs, tube iron, gondola frames, voids, and supports.
Apply once a month for continuous protection, or more often if conditions warrant.
*Always read the product label completely before use.
Each 16 oz. can covers approximately 1200 square feet.
Standard Application rates for Gentrol Aerosol IGR:
*16 oz. per 1200 square feet of surface area
Gentrol Aerosol IGR is for use in the following areas:
Including but not limited to: Apartment buildings, bakeries, bottling facilities, breweries, boiler rooms, cafeterias, candy plants, grocery stores, day care centers, hospitals, residential homes, hotels/motels, office buildings, kitchens, laboratories, cereal processing facilities, manufacturing plants, mausoleums, meat and produce canneries, nursing homes, restaurants, schools, locker rooms, stores, taverns, warehouses, pet stores, as well as various modes of transportation, such as aircraft, buses, trucks, trailers, rail cars, and marine vessels; food and non-food areas of food handling establishments
FOR BEDBUG Treatments:
GENTROL AEROSOL contains GENTROL Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). The IGR disrupts the normal development of bedbugs. Bedbugs exposed to GENTROL AEROSOL will become adults incapable of reproducing, thus ending the cycle of an infestation. Use GENTROL AEROSOL in areas such as, but not limited to: apartment buildings, hospitals, residential homes, hotels/motels, nursing homes, and marine vessels.
Spot or Crack and Crevice Applications:
Apply GENTROL AEROSOL as a crack and crevice application using the supplied extension tube. Apply directly to areas such as: wall voids, pipe chases, crevices, and false ceilings. Apply spot treatments to areas such as: storage areas, closets, furniture and beds. To treat bedbugs, apply to harborage points mentioned above; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage. Retreat at 14 days for heavy infestations.
For Control of Drain Flies and Fruit Flies: Apply GENTROL AEROSOL to areas of fly breeding. For drains, apply product into and around the downspout and catch basin area. Coat these areas thoroughly as fly larva develop in the scum buildup on the sides of drain pipes. Repeat applications at 2 to 4 week intervals depending upon the severity of infestation.
Pantry/Cabinets, Small Food Storage Areas: Apply as a surface spray, crack and crevice spray, or spot treatment to pantry and cupboard shelves or other areas where food is stored. Prior to spraying, remove all food containers and foodstuffs. Do not replace food containers or foodstuffs until spray has dried. Dispose of any infested food packages or materials.
Gentrol IGR is not intended for outdoor use.

We used Gentrol IGR aerosol to attack a really horrendous roach problem in our house. Nothing else had had the slightest effect on this infestation, including two different visits by professional exterminators. Gentrol really worked, though it took several weeks to collapse the population. The present order of concentrate is to take care of a few stragglers, and keep our protection up.

German Cockroaches Completely Gone
By Conrad in Las Vegas, NV on December 13, 2010
I had a huge problem with German Cockroaches. I tried raid, sticky traps, and even resorted to baking soda. Nothing worked and they kept showing up in my kitchen sink. I finally searched online and came across the Gentrol Aerosol. I sprayed every crack known to man and within days they were gone. I started seeing a bunch of dead cockroaches and knew this product did the trick. Highly recommend against German Cockroaches.

Gentrol for Drain flies
By Lee in Muskogee, Ok on June 10, 2010
We had an infestation of drain flies after a busted pipe was repaired under our kitchen slab. The plumbing company sprayed our drains and cleaned them by flushing them with hot water. They charged us $165. However, three weeks later, we still had them in the hundreds. I ordered Gentrol from DoMyOwnPestControl, and am very happy with the results. We are only seeing one or two on occasion and with another application or two we should be rid of them entirely. This company has excellent products and service. The shipping was fast and the product well packaged. Love the free shipping. I will definitely purchase from them again.

Zaps roaches better than professional services!
By Beachy in Fort Smith, AR on July 1, 2011
We own several rental properties and the worst thing is to have roaches take over a place. After spending lots of money on professional pest services we took things into our own hands several years ago, and started using Gentrol with whatever bait sounded best and the glue traps to pick up the stragglers. Have been able to totally eradicate roach infestations 100% of the time. Rarely requires retreatment.

This product works. I've been trying to determine the source of our phorid fly infestation for almost a year. We do not have any plumbing leaks. We fogged the house and used the sticky bug lights which kept the problem under control but never eliminated the flies. After treating all the obvious sources of infestation with drain foams, I finally realized I may never find every potential breeding location. I sprayed all the baseboards, cracks and crevices over my entire house with this product and within two days I noticed a significant decline. Within a week, we only have two new flies on the bug lights. I will be treating again in another week as directed on the instructions. In summary, I believe our year long nightmare is finally coming to an end.

Gentrol Aerosol is not the cure for sewer flies
By John in NJ on September 2, 2014
I have purchased this product as well as others from this site to eliminate sewer flies. None of them worked. The truth is that sewer flies are caused by a break in a sewer or waste line and these products may seem to work at first, BUT they will not eliminate the need for fixing a pipe or dealing with a plumbing problem. Do yourself a favor -- I spent over $100 on products from this company including Gentrol. They do NOT eliminate sewer flies

Gentrol Aerosol IGR-16
By Catherine in Bushnell, Florida on January 13, 2014
My original order was for DF 5000 drain gel and the Gentrol Aerosol IGR. I used both for about 4 weeks and finally things began to turn around for me with the phorid fly infestation. I ordered two more cans of the Gentrol Aerosol IGR to have on hand for maintenance. As of today I have not seen any flies for a week now and hope I have seen the end of them. Before I used these products I tried so many other products for weeks but they did not work. These did..

It took a few months but we finally got rid of a drain flies infestation which we have had for about a year. We believe it was the Gentrol that did it, although we've used a variety of products in our jacuzzi tub where the largest number of flies were present.

I like this product. I had a tenant that no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of the roaches. When I applied the Gentrol Aerosol and starting treating the cracks and crevices the roaches begin to fade in numbers. It took several treatments ans it indicates on the product label, but by following the instructions I was able to control and now begin to rid the unit of pest. I would certainly recommend this to any landlord that is trying to control cost and maintain a pest free building.
By Ron in westchester,il on December 14, 2012
have been spraying on a regular basis - the flies are still present will continue to use spray and hopefully they will be gone

I don' t usually review products but this stuff works. I have a very mild roach problem where I would see maybe one or two german roaches a day. I used gentrol along with the invict gold roach bait. Now the only roaches I see (if I see any) are dead roaches. I bought 2 cans for follow up treatment in another 3-4 months.

February 25, 2010Kent asked:
QCan Gentrol aerosol be used directly on pets or animals? Is Gentrol aerosol safe to use around humans?
ANo, Gentrol aerosol cannot be used directly on pets or humans, but it is safe to use it in environments where they live. All people and pets should be removed from the treatment area prior to the application of Gentrol aerosol, and they may return when the application is dry. Please read the Gentrol Product Label for specific application instructions.
July 22, 2010Michael asked:
QCan I spray Gentrol Aerosol IGR along with Phantom.
I have a serious bed bug infestation, and I would like to know if I can use both products at the same in the same crevices and baseboards.
July 23, 2010Louise asked:
QHow does Gentrol Aerosol IGR differ from BedLam? Should I use both at once?
Is this product sold in stores? If so, which? If not, why?
AGentrol IGR is an insect growth regulator which means it does not kill any bed bugs at all, or any pest for that matter. An IGR disrupts the insects reproduction cycle and prevents it from maturing and reproducing thereby slowing down the life cycle and allowing you to kill an infestation quicker because they are not laying new eggs while you are treating the problem. Bedlam is strictly an insecticide and does the killing. You can spray them both in the same places at once and they will not harm each other or react with each other. They both do different things. None of our products are found in stores because we sell only professional products that are not sold over the counter. We sell the same products the professional companies use.
October 10, 2010April asked:
QWhich would you recommend more for fruit flies and drain flies, 565 PLUS XLO or Gentrol Aerosol IGR?
Also, can I spray directly into a drain with DF 5000 drain gel?
AGentrol Aerosol and 565 Plus XLO are two completely different products that are not comparable. Gentrol Aerosol is an insect growth regulator that helps break the breeding cycle of listed insects, but it does not kill them. 565 Plus XLO is a pyrethrin product that offers a fast kill of listed insects but no residual control. These products are usually used together to help control an infestation of drain flies. You would use the DF5000 in the drain to help remove the organic matter that the drain flies breed and develop in. The Gentrol Aerosol should also be applied to the drain. The 565 Plus XLO should be used to help knockdown the active flying adults around the infested room.

QI bought Phantom Aerosol and Gentrol Aerosol to kill the colonies of drain flies and fruit flies.
I was told to spray one in the drains and the other in cracks on counters. Which one do I use for what?
A You definitely want to spray the Gentrol Aerosol down the drains. This product will control the growth and reproduction of the flies - keeping them from multiplying. The Phantom Aerosol is a crack and crevice treatment. This product will kill the flies that are flying out and about that land on a treated area. You may also want to consider DF 5000. This product is a gel designed specifically for drain flies. Pour 4 oz of the product down each infested drain each night for 7-14 days.

QCan Gentrol IGR Aerosol be used to help disrupt the life cycle of carpet beetles?
Can I use this product to disrupt the life cycle of carpet beetles? I have carpet beetle larvae coming out of baseboards and under carpets. These larvae are 2nd-generation from an adult carpet beetle infestation I had several months ago. So I want to make sure I break their life cycle. Also, could I combine Gentrol with other products such as Tri-Die, Cy-Kick, or D-Force?
AGentrol IGR Aerosol is labeled dermestid beetles and carpet beetles are a type of dermestid. You can and should use Gentrol IGR aerosol with an insecticide spray to help eliminate the infestation. When dealing with carpet beetles it is very important to find and remove the source of the beetles to get rid of them for good. To learn more about carpet beetle elimination please take a few minutes to read our article : Carpet Beetle Pest Control
September 16, 2011Doreen from 02180 asked:
QI think drain flies are breeding inside my home window casing. Could this be possible? Recommendations?
I tried taping over drains and had no success. Also, we have an unused toilet that we keep clean. We also taped this up but found no drain flies on tape. Can they live in water? If so, how do I go about killing them inside a toilet?
AIt is possible to have drain flies develop in places other than drains. It is also possible that you are dealing with fungus gnats which do favor places where there has been a water leak or other moisture issue that could cause fungus to grow providing them with a proper food source. We recommend that you use glueboards in areas where the insects are active so that you may get a sample of the insect. You should then get a professional identification of the insect. You can do this by contacting your local cooperative extension office and requesting to speak to the entomologist or by taking the sample to a well respected pest control operator in your area or by taking a well focused picture and emailing it to us. Once you have the insects identified you can follow the treatment directions in our article How to Get Rid of Fungus Gnats or How to Get Rid of Drainflies.

QIs the Gentrol Aerosol IGR safe to use on septic system plumbing?
AThe Gentrol Aerosol can be applied to the sides of drain pipes where scum collects and provides an area for insects like drain flies to breed. We dont see any harm in it being using in the pipes of a septic plumbing system but if you are still unsure that you can use it, you can contact Zoecon the manufacturer for further information. Had a problem 7 years ago when a pipe broke underground in our mobile home park. I tried the tape over the drains but didnt see any and felt they were coming in through the screens from outside. Had ordered some bio gel from another company at the time which took care of the problem. This year our leach field broke down and it was quite a few months before the owner came in and fixed the problem. Once he fixed it, now I have seen the moths again. But again, I notice them outside. I just ordered the 2 cans of the Gentrol Aerosol IGR after reading the high rated reviews on your website. I would like to know if I can spray this outside by the area where the leach field is? I believe that standing water and matter from the past months were not fully cleaned up.
AGentrol IGR is an indoor only product because it is not photo-stable and will rapidly breakdown when exposed to sunlight. You can continue to use the Gentrol IGR indoors to help limit the growth and breeding cycles of the drain flies.

QDoes Gentrol work well against German Roaches?
Can Gentrol Aerosol IGR be sprayed behind and under refrigerators to control German Roaches, I'm also using Suspend sc concentrate. And if so is there a residual with Gentrol.
AYes, Gentrol IGR Aerosol can be sprayed behind and under the refrigerator to control German Roaches. For roach control, you should repeat applications every 4 months.

QI purchased Gentrol Aerosol to try and solve my pest problem but I still see adult flies.

September 3, 2013B from Fort Wayne, In asked:
QWhich IGR product works best mixed with Suspend for the control of drain flies/fruit flies infestation?
I'm using the drain product but need to control a problem that has expanded to beyond the drain into the space under the floor and in the attic. thanks.
AWe recommend using Gentrol Aerosol to aid in treating Drain Flies. We like it because it comes with an applicator straw that eases application to hard to reach areas in and around sinks, toilets, etc. You can also use Gentrol Igr Concentrate, mixed with Suspend to treat areas such as your attic and crawlspace. Please make sure that there are no further water leaks, that could condusive to Drain Flies.
December 9, 2011Laura from Chatham, On, Ca asked:
QCan Gentrol Aerosol be used for flea control?
I need a product that works for fleas.
AGentrol Aerosol is not labeled for fleas. We recommend using Ultracide. Ultracide Spray contains Permethrin and Phenothrin to kill adult fleas fast. It also contains Methoprene (an insect growth regulator) to prevent reinfestation for up to seven months. It is our recommendation and industry standard that you vacuum immediately before the application of Ultracide and every day or every other day after the application for the next two weeks. Most folks need to do a follow up application after two weeks to get rid of any stragglers. You should also treat all pets that may have fleas with a product that is labeled for use on animals.
