How Gentrol IGR Concentrate Works
Gentrol IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) Concentrate travels deep into wall cavities, cracks and crevices, reaching the stored product pests, drain and fruit flies, and fleas, that other treatments miss. Hydroprene, the active ingredient, prevents pest larvae from progressing to the pupal stage of development, so the larvae die before they become breeding adults – and future infestations. Cockroaches and bedbugs exposed to Gentrol will become adults incapable of reproducing.
Stored product pests encounter hydroprene the same way they encounter insecticides – traveling on or rubbing against a treated surface. Gentrol IGR Concentrate spreads out from its point of application, creating a much larger treated surface than conventional insecticides. Gentrol Concentrate should always be diluted with water when applying with a sprayer. Because Gentrol is an insect growth regulator and not an adulticide, it should not be used as the sole protection for target pests.
Roaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bed bugs, stored product pests
PESTS CONTROLLED WITH GENTROL IGR CONCENTRATE: Cockroaches, drain flies, fruit flies, bed bugs, stored product pests (including Indian meal moths, rice moths, tobacco moths, red flour beetles, confused flour beetles, lesser grain borers, merchant grain beetles, sawtooth grain beetles, warehouse beetles, cigarette beetles, and Dermestid beetles)
GENTROL, an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), is a synthetic juvenile hormone "look-alike" which disrupts the normal growth development of bedbugs and roaches. Bedbugs and roaches exposed to the GENTROL IGR Concentrate will become adults incapable of reproducing, thus ending the cycle of an infestation. Use GENTROL IGR Concentrate in apartment buildings, hospitals, hotels/motels, residential homes, nursing homes, and marine vessels. Because of its broad labeling, Gentrol can be used in many sensitive areas where other sprays cannot. Gentrol is an excellent accompaniment to baiting programs for cockroaches, and it can be tank mixed with insecticides for treating bed bugs, roaches, or other listed pests.
Whether it’s used as a fogging agent or general surface spray, the long-term control of Gentrol IGR Concentrate is ideal for these sites:
- Food Handling Establishments
- Nursing Homes
- Aircraft, Ships, Trains, Trucks
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: S-Hydroprene 9.0%
Gentrol IGR Concentrate Application Instructions
Use Gentrol as a general surface spray, fogging, spot, or crack and crevice application. Mix Gentrol Concentrate with diluent and apply with spray or hand application equipment, such hand-pressurized or power-operated sprayers capable of delivering general surface spray, fogging (space spray/mist), spot, crack and crevice spray applications, or with a paint brush, roller, or similar device.
Mix GENTROL IGR Concentrate with water and apply with spray or hand application equipment, such as hand pressurized or power-operated sprayers capable of delivering spot or crack and crevice spray applications.
For spot and crack and crevice preparations:
Use 1 ounce of GENTROL IGR Concentrate to 1 gallon of water. Partially fill the mixing container with water, add the GENTROL IGR Concentrate, shake or stir, and fill to final volume. Use diluted solution within 48 hours of mixing. Shake or stir before each use.
Spot and Crack and Crevice Applications:
Apply GENTROL IGR Concentrate diluted spray solution using either a pressurized spray system capable of delivering a pinpoint or variable spray pattern or a device capable of coating evenly. Make crack and crevice applications directly to areas such as crevices, baseboards, floors, ceilings, or walls. Make spot treatments to areas such as storage areas, closets, doors, and behind and under furniture and beds. To treat bedbugs, apply to harborage points mentioned above; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage.
Gentrol Concentrate may be tank mixed with an adulticide currently registered for use, unless the product label prohibits such use.
Gentrol Concentrate may also be converted to a foam. For best results, use the higher amount of the foaming agent rate range.
Always read the product label completely before use.
Each 1 oz. bottle yields 1 gallon of finished solution. Each 16 oz. bottle yields 16 gallons of finished solution. 1 gallon of finished solution covers 1,500 square feet of surface area.
Standard Application Dilution rates / Mixing Ratios for Gentrol IGR Concentrate
- 1 fl. oz. (30 mL)/gal. of water – surface, spot, or crack and crevice applications
- 1 fl. oz. (30 mL) per 12,000 cubic feet – fogging applications
Gentrol IGR Concentrate is for use in the following areas:
Apartment buildings, bakeries, bottling facilities, breweries, boiler rooms, cafeterias, candy plants, grocery stores, day care centers, hospitals, residential homes, hotel/motels, office buildings, kitchens, laboratories, cereal processing facilities, manufacturing plants, mausoleums, meat and produce canneries, nursing homes, restaurants, schools, locker rooms, stores, taverns, warehouses, as well as various modes of transportation such as aircraft, buses, trucks, trailers, rail cars, and marine vessels; food and non-food areas of food-handling establishments.
Fogging Application: Apply Gentrol Concentrate as a fog or an ultra-low volume (ULV) mist with equipment such as ULV, mechanical misting sprayers, aerosol generators, or thermal foggers to achieve uniform coverage. Apply at a rate of 1 ounce Gentrol per 12,000 cubic feet. Use water or oil as diluent, depending on the type of equipment used. Fogging applications are best for larger facilities including warehouses. Close room or warehouse and shut off all ventilation systems. Apply the product in the air and direct mist toward all areas that may harbor target pests. After treatment, leave the room closed for 30 minutes or longer as recommended by the equipment manufacturer or the labels of other products applied in tank mixing. Do not remain in treated area; ventilate before reentry.
Bed Bugs: Apply to harborage points mentioned above; in addition, under beds, bottom side of box springs (do not treat linens and mattresses), under and behind night stands, to points where carpet and wall meet, cracks in cove base, molding, and other areas where bedbugs harborage. Retreat at 14 days for heavy infestations. Gentrol cannot be used as the sole treatment for bed bugs.
Drain Flies, Fruit Flies: Apply Gentrol to areas of fly breeding. For drains, apply product into and around the downspout and catch basin area. Coat these areas thoroughly as fly larvae develop in the scum buildup on the sides of drain pipes. Repeat applications at 2 to 4 week intervals depending upon the severity of infestation.
Pantry/Cabinets, Small Food Storage Areas: Apply as a surface spray, crack and crevice spray, or spot treatment to pantry and cupboard shelves or other areas where food is stored. Prior to spraying, remove all food containers and foodstuffs. Do not replace food containers or foodstuffs until spray has dried. Do not store food in open containers in treated pantries. Destroy any infested food packages to ensure proper control.
Gentrol IGR Concentrate is not intended for outdoor use because it is not photostable (the product breaks down quickly in direct sunlight).

This product works! Thank Goodness!
By Eve in Cocoa Florida on 05/16/2010
My sons roommate picked up an old sofa-bed for his room. It had bedbugs! My sons house became infected before anyone knew what happened. No one in our family had ANY experience with these horrible creatures! He ordered from your company and was pleased. Then, the little buggers found their way into MY house, probably because while he was treating his house, we kept our granddaughter with us, of course bringing along some clothes and toys! They really got after my husband because he has a very warm body. We ordered your product and are very pleased! We haven't seen any bugs in 3 weeks, I have one more spraying to do. You should spray at least 3 times, 10 days apart. The odor was affordable, the directions good, and best of all, IT WORKS!

It's just works!
By Kahina in Brooklyn,Ny on 10/22/2010
This stuff works! I'm soooo glad to have found your website and to have found something that actually works immediately. I just moved into an apartment the 1st of this month where it unfortunately had roaches. I couldn't sleep when I noticed the apartment had them; I'd never lived with these ungodly creatures before. I purchased this product along with the Drione and they did the trick! I think my landlord is amazed but he won't let on. He's been paying an exterminator to visit twice a month. This stuff works, the exterminator is a waste of his money. It's been three weeks and I'm more than happy to say that I can rest peacefully.

I used this stuff to get rid of bedbugs -- it's the only thing that really worked because it's a genetic disruptor and breaks their life cycle. It had the added bonus of breaking the life cycle of every other insect also -- so I haven't seen a roach or a fly ever since I used it. What an awesome product.

A few years back our Queens, NY apartment became infested with bed bugs. The landlord called an exterminator, who treated our apartment about four times. One of the exterminators (then sent a different one each time) told me that the bug spray mix wasn't really meant to get rid of bed bugs permanently, just put them into temporary hiding. After the four or so treatments, we still had the bedbugs. I decided on this product after reading the literature that was available then. It turned out to work. After one treatment of this, the bed bugs slowed down, and after two they disappeared. I think I did this for a total of three times, and we never saw the bugs again. I had purchased the whole box and had most of it left after treating my apartment three times. Needless to say, the entire box of the Gentrol IGR cost less than a single visit from a NYC exterminator. As an added benefit, Gentrol IGR also fubars roaches. I now use it on my own commercial property for roach control, and for me, it is more effective (by killing the bugs and by cost) than hiring the bug company.

Gentrol IGR Genetic Warfare for Roaches :)
By Tim in Clute, TX on 05/02/2012
I sprayed this down by itself a few days before performing my German Roach Normandy beach mission and I felt like I was on a secret mission to disrupt the worldwide roach population. This Gentrol with MaxForce FC Magnum bait and some Demon WP completely decimated a 20 year German roach problem in South Texas. All three totally killed every bug in the house, haven't seen or heard a peep for over two weeks and for the first time ever, I can say that they are gone with absolute certainty. Still got a spray bottle left in reserve just in case they ever try a counterattack. Thanks for an amazing product and very fast shipping.

Birth Control For Roaches
By Happy in Wilmington on 12/17/2016
I've used this product with the product Advion Gel Bait. Its only been a couple of weeks, still I haven't seen any roaches. Since I just started using the products I will continue to use it every month instead of every 3 months which is what most pest control company. I also bought my 1st gel bait from diamond chemical and the salesman give it a good review. Told me that he used it also and no more roaches. With the gel bait and the Gentrol IGR you can't go wrong. The IGR is fantastic because it kills the growth of Multiplying. Killing them is one thing but keeping them from multiplying is one of the main reason we can't get rid of them. Yes we kill them with the gel bait they eat it and go back to their colony and die and then the other roaches eat them and die which is needed but the ones when they come of age they can't produce more baby roaches. So problem solved. I was told this verbally with the repersenative on the phone in customer service. She was very nicely mannerd and I was able to understand excactly what she was explaining to me. She was very though and took her time to explain the product to me. So in my opinion buying it would be in your roaches worst intrest. Go For It. The price is right. A whole gallon for $7.98 for 1oz. OK but it works in my opinion. Once you mix it you have to use it within 48hours. Thats enough. I hope I helped. Excause my spelling. Didn't feel like looking up words(smile).
Does not work.
By Misty in Heber Springs, AR on 12/17/2016
I bought it to get rid of the roaches. Did the not work. Cleaned neighbors house after they moved. Sprayed furniture beca use they and bed bugs. Didn't not kill them. The only thing I found to kill bed bugs on contact is awesome cleaner with bleach. So I am very disappointed. With this product.
Thank you for your comments! Gentrol IGR is just an insect growth regulator; it is not an insecticide, so it will not kill bed bugs or other listed insects on contact. You will still need to use insecticides along with Gentrol when treating any listed insects, such as bed bugs or roaches. Ask a Question
QCan Gentrol IGR concentrate be diluted with other insecticides?
AYes, Gentrol IGR concentrate can either be applied by itself in a gallon of water, or you can mix it directly with any other insecticide you happen to be spraying with. The Gentrol IGR comes in 1 ounce vials, which is the exact amount you need to mix with each gallon of water or gallon of other insecticide. 1 ounce or 1 vial of Gentrol IGR per gallon of water.
QIf bed bugs walk over dried Gentrol IGR, does it work? Or does it have to be sprayed on a live bedbug?
Does it work with all roaches? If yes, which ones?
AGentrol IGR does not have to be applied directly to bed bugs or roaches to work. It has a residual that can last up to 4 months, so it can be picked up by bed bugs, roaches, drain flies and pantry pests long after it dries. It will work on all species of roaches.
11/20/2012 Joel from Sunnyside,ny
Qcan I spray gentrol on all the walls and ceilings in my apartment?
I have small kids and am worried once the Gentrol dries if the residual is bad for them if they touch the walls? Also I have pets, what happens if I spray the floors, will the residual affect my dogs?
AYou should apply the Gentrol IGR as directed on the product label, directly into cracks and crevices around door frames, window frames, baseboards and under appliances. There is no need to spray the entire wall, ceiling or floor. All children should be out of the area during the application and they can safely return to the treated as soon as it has dried. The dried residual will not have any effect on people or pets even if they touch it. Also, by applying the product directly to cracks, crevices, voids and other inaccessible areas you will be limiting anyone's exposure to the product.
QCan you mix Gentrol IGR Concentrate with Phantom Insecticide?
AYes. Gentrol can be mixed with most insecticides with no problem.
QCan you mix Gentrol IGR Concentrate with Temprid SC?
AYes. Gentrol can be mixed with most insecticides with no problem.

QWill Gentrol IGR work with Advion roach gel bait?
I have a severe German Roach infestation. I've been researching Albion, and it looks very promising. I'm just wondering if it would make a difference if I used them together.
A Gentrol IGR would be an excellent option for use with Advion Roach Bait Gel. Remember that Gentrol IGR is just a growth regulator so it is very important to use an insecticide with this product as well, such as Temprid SC. The insecticide will kill the insects that come in contact with it. The Gentrol IGR will act as a birth control for the roaches. Advion Roach Bait Gel will be used inside of cabinets and drawers where you cannot spray. Be sure not to spray the bait because it will contaminate it and the roaches will not consume it. Please check out our Roach Guide for tips on how to treat and prevent roaches.

QWhat is the reason why we need to use the mixed Gentrol solution within 48 hours?
Will the chemical not work any more after 48 hours in the sprayer?
A Gentrol (along with most other liquid concentrates) should be used or discarded within 24-48 hours at most after mixing.† This is because the active ingredient will start to break down after this point and cause the solution to become less effective.

QI want to mix Gentrol and Demon WP; how much of each do I mix?
I want to mix Gentrol and Demon WP how much do I use each in a sprayer
A The mixing ratio for Demon WP is one to two packets per gallon of water. The mixing ratio for Gentrol IGR is 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water. You will fill the tank up halfway, put the products in, fill the tank up the rest of the way and agitate. Be sure not to leave chemicals inside your sprayer for more than 24 hours because it will decrease the effectiveness of the product.

QHow long does Gentrol IGR concentrate keep it's potency?
If I purchase a 16 oz bottle of IGR concentrate & use 1 oz every four months, the last of the concentrate will have been stored for 5 years before use. Is it reasonable to expect the concentrate to still be potent this long?
A Gentrol IGR Concentrate†has a shelf life of about 3-5 years if kept out of extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. †It can be applied more often then ever 4 months depending on the pest you are trying to control so it should still be effective in that time.

QDoes Gentrol IGR work on bedbugs or not?
I was wanting to know due to one of your answers regarding gentrol not being in your bedbug kits because you would rather see customers money spent on products that are effective.
A The Gentrol IGR is the only birth control that has been shown to actually work on bed bugs, however since is not 100% guaranteed to work every single time in every home we do not state†you must purchase it but instead leave it up to the customers discretion on whether they would like to use or not.
