Gentrol Point Source is a special Roach control device that contains the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) hydroprene for 90-day control of roaches and other stored product pests. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic, adhesive-back device. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging adult roaches and preventing them from reproducing. 20 units per box. Gentrol Point Source should never be used to eliminate a roach population by itself. Gentrol will not kill roaches...it only prevents them from reproducing. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet. That way, pre-adult stored product pests never need to come in contact with the device. One to two weeks after application, you will begin to see roaches with crinkled wings, showing the initial effects of the IGR. These roaches cannot reproduce. Great product!
By E.k. on April 9, 2008Gentrol Point Source has worked effectively for me for years. When I start seeing roaches I check the date and three months have passed. It isn't easy to control roaches in Florida. Great product.

Repeat user!
By Cici on December 18, 2011I have rescue birds and fish so I can not use harsh chemicals. Construction on a new addition on an old building shook some critters out. This is safe for my birds and you can see the difference when the wings crinkle up on the bugs and no new ones emerge.

Gentrol Point Source is Very effective!
By Debbie on November 3, 2010

I have been battling pantry pests (Indian Meal Moths) for what feels like forever. Since they were in the pantry, we were hesitant to use pesticides in there. These are perfect - no pesticides - you just put them in a few places and that's it. A week or so after putting them out, I started seeing moths that were either flying funny, or seemed unable to fly at all. It has been 2 weeks now and I'm seeing far less moths and the ones I'm seeing have definitely been affected. The only drawback is that they don't die rapidly. But the only alternative is to use pesticide and we didn't want that around stored food for obvious reasons.

Best Product Ever!
By Stephanie on May 30, 2012I probably had thousands of roaches inside my walls. I put these on the walls near the hiding spots (behind pictures, around electrical outlets, near cabinets), around electrical appliances, under the fridge and stove, and in the inside of the cabinet doors in the kitchen and the bathroom. Three months later, and I very rarely see a roach. If I do, I know that I missed a hiding spot. I like that this can be used in the kitchen where the majority of roaches probably hang out. I also have cats which seem to have been unaffected. I used a very small amount of bait too, but I only saw a few dead roaches near the bait. I think that it was the Gentrol that did it. You just need the patience to wait the 3 months (average life span of a roach).

part of German successful cockroach treatment
By Relaxtoday on March 10, 2013

There had been German cockroaches for 15 years. Treatment included monthly Demon WP spray, Advion bait, Delta Dust inside the walls and appliances, and these disks. The roaches are gone after a year, but we continue to treat for 2 years because of the eggs inside the walls. It was a long haul, but worth it. These discs are the easiest part of the treatment.

Great Effective Products

I live in a apartment that when I first moved into had a German Roach Problem. When I went on a massive detail house cleaning, first I found that previous tenant, well.. were'nt the cleanest of people. After getting all cleaned I DID have professional come in to help start the getting rid of the problem. Once I saw them slowing up , I dicided to do MY OWN Pest Control. I found this site and ordered my own home defense. I ordered the Advion Roach Bait and the Gentrol Point Source. AMAZING!!.... It was like the bugs just disappeared completely. I would see one every once in a while but it would be just barely alive. I like that I am able to control where baits and gentrols are placed since I have a small pet and I can be secure in knowing he does not have access. I HIGHLY recommend these products to anyone, products work fantastic, they are easy to use, totally worth purchasing. I Have ZERO bugs since using this product.

Patience

I was inpatient, b/c I had been dealing with roaches for so long, and they appeared inspite of the Green Dragon Roach Kill. After 2 wks of waiting for the Gentrol order, in which USPS gave to someone else, the new order shipped to me. After about 5 days of the combination of the Green Dragon Roach Kill (2.5wks now), and the Gentrol, I saw a lower incidence of the insects, & that was with the last 3 days in which the temperatures almost hit a record high for January. If 1 has a bad roach infestation, they need both a non resistant bait, & an IGR.

I love this stuff because it solves the second problem of roach infestation....the roaches breeeding and coming back. I got rid of the roaches in my apt with the Advion bait gel and then used these little 'birth control for roaches' disks all around the house to keep them from being able to make babies which would infest us again. You can tell when it's working because you'll start seeing the dead bodies from the bait and the live roaches you do see will be a little funny looking. They look as if they are sick and they are always very immature looking. So I have to say I love this product and Im glad I finally got rid of these roaches for good.

Gentrol Point Source
By Pam on July 15, 2012I'm giving 5 stars for benefit of the doubt, because I used these in conjunction with Advion bait gel in one apartment, and with Maxforce gel in another. Both units had German cockroaches, and neither has them now. Even if the gel's doing the job, I like to think the Gentrol is working toward prevention of further infestation. I'd better call my new tenants and make sure they don't throw them away.

Great Stuff!
By Marie on May 25, 2012I live in Florida where roaches can be a real problem. I was infested with German Cockroaches. After a deep cleaning (roach feces is nymph food) and placing Max force gel bait to kill the adults, I place Gentrol around my house where the roaches seemed to be vacationing. It's been 1 month now and I can say I think I have won the war of the roaches, I highly recommend this product.

I live in an old part of town. When we first moved into our rental, the roaches were (no kidding) about two inches in length and they would just hang out with you like it wasn't a big deal. I put this out about two weeks ago. I've only seen a couple of roaches and their wings looks smaller than usual. So far so good, but I am using the bait and the barrier treatment recommended by domyownpestcontrol.com. I can easily see myself saving so much more money using this plan than having an exterminator come out and charge 200.00 to 300.00 per visit.

QWhat if my cats walk on areas where Gentrol Point Source may have landed then groom themselves?
I am using Gentrol with bait stations for an Oriental roach issue we are having. One of the places they have been seen is an area where my cats have their litter box. If my cats walk on the formula the Gentrol point disk emits, and then lick their paws, is this harmful? I don't see this addressed in the enclosed information.
AThe tiny minute amounts of Gentrol the cats would pick up on their paws would not cause any issue whatsoever. According to the MSDS "Due to the unique nature of the product form, acute toxicity hazards are not anticipated". This means that unless the cats actually get a hold of the disc and eat the vial inside before it is crushed, there would be no concern that they would ingest enough product to cause any type of toxicity issues.
January 24, 2010Tony asked:
QIs Gentrol effective on bedbugs or are they just trying to get my money?
I have a PCO who wants to use Gentrol Point Source to treat bedbugs. I read on here that it says its for roaches. Is this product effective on bedbugs or are they just trying to get my money?
AGentrol Point Source is not labeled for treatment of bed bugs, it is only labeled to treat roaches and pantry pests. However, we do sell the Gentrol IGR in the liquid form in all of our bed bug kits and the liquid IGR is labeled for treatment of bed bugs.
March 15, 2010Michael asked:
QWhere can Gentrol Point Source be used? How about animal shelters and zoos?
AYou can use Gentrol Point Source almost anywhere, especially sensitive accounts, such as food handling establishments, animal shelters and zoos. It is also commonly used around sensitive electrical equipment such as computers and case registers. Please refer to the label for additional application sites.
April 12, 2010Carroll asked:
QIs Gentrol Point Source good for carpet beetles?
AYes. According to the manufacturer Gentrol Point Source is effective for carpet beetles. The disc contains the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) hydroprene for 90-day control of roaches and other stored product pests, like carpet beetles. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic disc. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging pests and preventing them from reproducing.
August 30, 2010Loni asked:
QOur bathroom and kitchen share a wall so they are close. Should we use a Gentrol Point Source in both places?
Also, you are supposed to keep them at least 3ft away from food. Our kitchen is small so where can we place one? How long should we wait to come back in the house? Can we use one in the car for carpet beetles or will it be too concentrated? When you press it, does it immediately release into the air you breathe? I'm pregnant, so we really want to be safe.
AYou should place a Gentrol Point Source disc in each room. For the kitchen area, you can use the sticky tabs included in the package and place the disc on the side or behind the fridge or place it to the side of the cabinets or pantry. You only need to keep the disc away from food prep areas not from stored food product. According to the manufacturer, there is almost no hazard from inhalation. There is no need to leave the house when using the Gentrol Point Source discs. Gentrol Point Source is labeled to be used in modes of transportation, but we have not heard of any one using it in a car. To get rid of the beetles in your car you should be able to thoroughly vacuum and spot spray a pyrethrin product such as 565 Plus into cracks and crevices.
August 1, 2011Grace asked:
QWhat is the difference between using Gentrol Point Source and Gentrol Concentrate?
I have a residence and problem with roaches. The liquid is a better price and seems to be able to cover more areas-- but is it not as strong as the point source?
AThe Gentrol Point Source and the Gentrol IGR concentrate are going to provide the same results for roach control. The Gentrol Point Source are great for situations when spraying is not allowed and this formulation is also very convenient as there is no mixing or spraying required. The Gentrol Concentrate on the other hand is definitely more economical.
December 15, 2010T. asked:
QHow does Gentrol Point Source move up to 75 sq. ft? Why is it not listed for bed bugs?
Can I try it for no see-ums that are biting me?
AFirst, you must properly identify the insect you are trying to get rid of to know for sure if Gentrol will work for it. You can get a sample of the insect and go to your local cooperative extension office to request an insect identification. Gentrol Point Source has an active ingredient that is slightly more dense than air and actually is carried a small distance on the air because of this density. After the insect you are dealing with is properly identified, you must also make sure you are using the correct formulation of Gentrol (also available in a concentrated liquid and an aerosol)as the Point source is only labeled for select insects. Gentrol will not give you immediate relief. Gentrol works gradually over time to interrupt the insects breeding cycle.
January 20, 2011J.p. asked:
QDoes Gentrol Point Source work for clothes moths?
My pest control company has been using Gentrol for my cloth moth infestation. I decided to cut out the middle man and save some money and buy Gentrol myself. Now I can't find anywhere on the label that Gentrol will work for clothes moths.
AAccording to the manufacturer, Gentrol Point Source will not work for cloth moth infestations. We do understand how there could have been some confusion. Clothes moths do in some cases fall under the "stored product pest" category and Gentrol is indeed labeled for stored product pests, but in this case the manufacturer did not include clothes moths in this category.
March 11, 2011Darnell asked:
QWill Gentrol Point Source make crickets non-consumable for my pet reptile?
I have Gentrol Point Source but I also have a reptile that eats crickets and I wanted to keep a supply of them on hand. Will the IGR make them non consumable for my pet since the IGR doesn't need to come in direct contact with insect to affect them?
I have the one that looks like a birth control pill holder.
AGentrol Point Source contains a juvenile growth hormone mimic that retards the growth of certain insects. Gentrol Point Source does not contain any type of poison and should not have any effect on your reptile.
March 7, 2013Robert from Louisiana asked:
QCan Gentrol Point Source be mixed with orthane pco pellets?
AGentrol Point Source cannot be mixed with anything because it comes ready to use. You can use the discs in the same areas where you are applying the insecticide.
March 26, 2013Tammie from Lusby, Maryland asked:
QDoes the Gentrol Point Source affect Carpet Beetle Adults or Larvae or both?
We are at the point in trying to get ahold of our infestation where adult beetles are emerging from prior larvae and soem adults have laid eggs and tiny larvae are emerging. Since these work for 90 days, I need to know WHEN to put them out. If they only work for the adult beetles, I may be too late.
AYes. According to the manufacturer Gentrol Point Source is effective for carpet beetle larvae. The active ingredient is a juvenile growth hormone mimic and more or less stunts the proper growth of the larvae. Activating Gentrol Point Source is as simple as squeezing the raised end of the plastic disc. This releases Gentrol IGR onto a filter paper. From there, it moves up to 75 square feet, damaging pests and preventing them from reproducing.
