Gnats

We just bought a newly built home in March. After about 2 weeks we notice gnats in the bathrooms. (Both are on the same side of the house). We have been working with a company to no avail. No one can determine where they are coming from. They have sprayed inside and outside. For a few days we will see a lot of dead bugs, but then they are flying around again. While they were building the house it rained the majority of time.

Answer:

Based on your description it sounds like drain flies. If you contact your local Extension Office and speak with the Entomologist on duty, they would be able to help positively I.D. this pest. If indeed they are drain flies, you want to first look around and check there are no water leaks. Please check out our article "Get Rid Of Drain Flies". You also want to use a Drain Gel that contains active enzymes that will eat away the organic materials allowing the drain flies to continue to thrive.
