    Q
How much Trimec Classic do I use per gal. of water?
Mix of creeping fescue and tall fescue. I have a lot of plantin, chickweed, and other pre-emergents that I need spray.
    A

Per the Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide product label for broadleaf weed control on cool season grass you would use 1.2 to 1.5 oz. per 0.5 to 6 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft.

    Steps in Calibration:

    1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet, or 25 by 40 feet).

    2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in thespray tank.

    3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage.  Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.

    4. Determine the application rate (fl oz/1000 sq ft) for the product from the “General Application” section of the label.

    5. To each volume of water used, as measured in step 3, add the amount of product determined in step 4.

    Example:

If the sprayer used 2 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired application rate of product 1.5 fluid oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 1.5 fluid ounces to every 2 gallons of water to be used.

  • Asked by Beverly from Neshanic, New Jersey
    07/19/2015
    Q
What is the recommended rate per 1 gallon for Trimec Classic?
I am in New Jersey and want to spot spray clover, dandelions, etc on perennial rye, bluegrass, fescue blend. Will use a hand-held 2 gallon spray tank. I have used Trimec Plus in the past, but I don't see that available anymore. Can you recommend rate of Trimec Classic for 1 gallon?
    A

When treating with Trimec Classic the amount of water can vary between 0.5 to 6 gallons per 1000 sq. ft. Using between 0.75 to 1.5 of Trimec Classic per 1000 sq. ft. is the most important measurement to worry about. The steps below will allow you to estimate the amount of product and water needed for the area that you want to treat.

    Steps in Calibration:

    1. Mark an area of 1,000 square feet (i.e. 20 by 50 feet, or 25 by 40 feet).

    2. Place the sprayer on a level surface and add water noting the final level of water in the

    spray tank.

    3. Spray the marked area with a sufficient volume of water to provide uniform coverage.

Refill the sprayer to the same level as before measuring the amount of water added. The

measured water added to the sprayer is the volume needed to cover 1,000 square feet.

    4. Determine the application rate (fl oz/1000 sq ft) for the product from the “Approved Uses” section of this label.

    5. To each volume of water used, as measured in step 3, add the amount of product

    determined in step 4.

    Example:

If the sprayer used 2 gallons of water to cover 1,000 square feet and the desired

application rate of product is 3 fluid oz/1,000 square feet, then you would add 3 fluid

ounces to every 2 gallons of water to be used.

  • Asked by Marcus from Mount Juliet
    03/13/2016
    Q
Can I use dish washing liquid in place of surfactant to enhance weed absorption when using Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide??
    A

It is not recommended to use any type of dish soap in place of an actual surfactant when applying a product such as Gordons Trimec Classic Broadleaf Herbicide.  This is because dish soaps can be ionic which can react with the chemical in herbicides, it also can leave a sticky residue, and most soaps have a degreaser in them that can burn your grass.  Also according to the product label, a surfactant is not listed as needed when using this product.
