Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide)

Compare to Select 2EC and Arrow 2EC Herbicide. With Grass Out Max you get the same active ingredient for less expense.  It is highly recommended that you use a surfactant with this product.

Grass Out Max is a selective post-emergent herbicide used to control annual and perennial grasses. It is labeled for most landscape, home and garden, ornamental, agricultural and non-crop uses. The unique feature of Grass Out Max is that it will ONLY kill grasses and NOT effect flowers, shrubs, broadleaf crops or other broadleaf plants. Grass Out Max contains 25.4% Celthodim Herbicide and effectively kills more than 50 different grasses.

Ground Application

Use a minimum of 5 gallons and maximum of 40 gallons of spray solution per acre. Use of sufficient spray volumes and pressure is essential to ensure complete coverage.

Under the following conditions a minimum of 10 gallons per acre is required: narrow row soybeans, broadleaf herbicide tank mixes, perennial grasses, volunteer corn, drought or stress conditions heavy grass pressure or when grasses are at or near maximum height. Failure to use a minimum of 10 gallons per acre under these conditions can result in poor coverage and reduced grass control requiring repeat applications. Spray pressures should reflect a minimum of 30 psi and a maximum of 60 psi at the nozzle. Do not use flood nozzles.

Applications to onions (dry bulbs and green), garlic, and shallots (dry blubs and green) should be made in a minimum of 20 gallons of spray solution per acre.

By Happy in Utah on 09/29/2012

We have about 12000 square feet of lawn with curbing and beds throughout. Kentucky bluegrass creeping into the groundcover of the beds used to be a real problem. Then my neighbor introduced me to to Grass Out Max. He had used it the previous fall and his beds look great. He said it took about a month for it to work. I tried it and it and for the first couple of weeks didn't see much difference, but after a month it did the trick. Now just an occasional touch up application keeps the beds looking good.

4 of 5 stars  Good grass killer
By Joseph in Saint Johns on 08/04/2014
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this product to use on my food plots. It arrived timely, and I mixed the product with 2.5 oz per gallon of water. I mixed in some sticker as indicated, and used a backpack sprayer to apply. I didn't see any immediate action (first couple of days) but finally noticed that it was working. It took out the crab grass in my clover field without harm to the clover. My plots are about 1/3 acre; I would suggest that you map out a route to insure complete coverage if you use hand sprayer like I did, as I missed a few spots do to walking deviations. I recommend this product for use in food plots.

I don't think the product works. I have applied it twice and at this point no action. unless it kills the grass soon it was wasted money.

    Expert Response   Expert response:
What kind of plants are you trying to kill, and around which desirable plants? This product should be used with a surfactant, so you will only see limited results if you have applied it without adding a surfactant/spreader sticker to your diluted solution. You may also see limited or slower results during this time of year since the grass should be actively growing in order to absorb the herbicide. We would be happy to troubleshoot with you via email or via telephone at 866-581-7378 9a-5p EST.

By Clay in New Salisbury, IN on 08/25/2016

I was a slight bit biased on purchasing Grass Out Max when comparing the price to the other big names out there. I thought it was worth a shot for controlling the grass takeover in my strawberry bed. One application on a dry hot day was all it took! Less than a week and the color turned and all the grass was dead.

5 of 5 stars  Worked great on Wildflower Garden
By Steve in Bristol, Michigan on 06/02/2016

I have two large wildflower gardens that were getting overrun by grasses of all kinds. I was real close to tilling everything in and starting over. I am so glad I tried Grass Out Max first. It takes a while but most of the grass is dying out and my wildflowers are winning. Worth every penny. I used a fifty gallon pto sprayer on my compact tractor. Also used extra in flower beds around the house. I am now my wife's hero if I wasn't already.

QWhat is the mixing ratio of Grass Out to water for spraying flower beds?
I'm using Grass Out Max in a gallon sprayer for flower beds. In reading the labels, I can't find what amounts of grass max/water to use for that size container. Could you please give me that information?

AYou will need to use 0.2-0.4 fl oz of Grass Out per 1,000 sq ft area. Like most other herbicides the exact amount of water you use is not important, it is just important to make sure you get the specified amount of product over a 1,000 sq ft area. For ease of mixing/measuring you can add the specified amount of product to 1 gallon of water to apply to a 1,000 sq ft area.

QCan Grass Out Max be used on sweet corn?

AGrass Out is not labeled for use on corn because corn is from the grass family and it could injure the corn. We recommend consulting with your local department of agriculture for the best product to use for weed control around sweet corn.

QWill Grass Out Max kill my rose bushes?
Annual blue grass is invading my rose bush planters.

A

Grass Out Max (Clethodim Herbicide) is a great choice for killing annual blue grass (poa annua) in ornamental beds as long as the non-target plants are well established. Per the product label, be sure to use a non-ionic surfactant with at least 80% active ingredient, although crop oil surfactants are not recommended around flowers to prevent sensitivity. Please review the product label before application. †If you are only experiencing problems in planters, then you may need to examine whether weeds are coming up from the ground below them, in which case you should move and/or add a barrier under or inside the planters. Transplanting or changing the potting soil would also ensure no new growth of unwanted plants.

QWill Grass Out Max also kill the sod where I am trying to kill annual blue grass invading my lawn?
would like to kill the blue grass invading my sod grass

A

While you did not state what kind of grass is in the sod that you have down, the Grass Out Max is specifically designed to kill any and all grasses it is sprayed on and ONLY kill grasses. This would not be a product you would want to use over a sod lawn and instead you would want to go with a product that is selective in either a pre or post emergent form. If you let us know what kind of lawn/sod you have, we can find a product that would better suit your needs.

QWhat's the difference in these two Clethodim grass killing products?
"Grass Out Max" has active ingredient Clethodim at 25.4%. You also carry Select "Source PS Clethodim Herbicide" which shows 26.4% and specifically lists Bermudagrass BUT is not for sale in several states. What is the difference in these two? Does that extra percent qualify PS as prohibited? It's also nearly twice as expensive.

AGrass Out Max and PS Clethodim are basically the same product with a very small variation of active ingredient percentage. However, this variation in the percentage of Clethodim does not determine eligibility for sale and/or shipping to certain states. Each state has a registration process for herbicides and in this case the manufacturer of PS Clethodim which is Prime Source has not registered their product in several states. Therefore, when a product is not registered with the state it may not be shipped or sold there.

QWill Grass Out Max work to eliminate grass from a baseball infield? And will it kill weeds to?

AGrass Out Maxx is only labeled to control grassy weeds.  It will not kill flowers, shrubs, broadleaf crops or other broadleaf plants.  Agrisels Gly Pho-Sel Pro with 41% Glyphosate would be a better product to use, just be sure to only apply to the weeds/grasses you are wanting to kill as it can kill anything that it is applied to.
