HandyGreen II Spreader

$23.95
We are no longer stocking the HandyGreen II Spreader due to the fact that because it is plastic, the insecticide granules eat at the moving parts over time and cause the spreader to break down.  We are now recommending a much better, long lasting, high quality commercial grade spreader.  Please see the Earthway 2750 Spreader.

How do I use the Scott's Handy Spreader II?

Adjust rate control to obtain desired amount of product. (Rate usage is usually found on insecticide product label) Do not pull trigger while filling hopper. Always fill the spreader on sidewalk or driveway (never on the lawn) and move to the starting point on lawn. Start spreader in motion by rotating crank clockwise and pulling trigger. Release trigger to stop spreader. To avoid misses or heavily covered strips, make each pass. (4 ft.) from the previous one.

Operate the spreader the longest direction of the lawn. First apply two header strips across each end to provide turning space. Go back and forth between the ends (see package instructions). Shut off spreader when approaching the header or trees. Turn off the spreader before coming to a complete stop. Keep the spreader off while backing or turning to avoid waste and possible lawn injury from over-application. Shut off the spreader just before getting to the trunk of a tree, start the spreader in motion on the other side, then turn and continue with the spreading pattern.

NOTE***For best results use spreader for only 1 product.***

1 of 5 Stars  Small granules dont work
By Ken on March 31, 2009
My experience with this spreader has been less than likeable. I am in the pest control business and I use Talstar PL (which is a very fine granulated product). The problem I have had with the spreader is some of the Talstar gets in and around the stirring rod and stops it from turning, rendering it useless. I have gone through 3 of these spreaders with less than satisfactory results.

Can the Bifen Granules be applied in a dispenser like Miracle grow that goes on the end of a garden hose?
I have gone through 2 of these HandyGreen II Spreaders trying to spread out the bags of granules I purchased. Can the Bifen Granules be applied in a dispenser like Miracle grow that goes on the end of a garden hose? I am using the granules for flea control and it states to water the granules immediately after applying. If so, what would the mixture then be for 1000 sq ft. If not, what else can be used to spread these granules?

A Bifen granules cannot be used in a hose end sprayer.  They do require watering after application so they can begin to release the pesticide, but they do not dissolve in water completely right away so that is why you cannot use them in a hose end sprayer.  They release and dissolve over time.  That being said the HandyGreen II Spreader does degrade over time when applying granules.  We now carry a new spreader that is made to withstand the abrasive qualities of insecticidal granules.  It is called the Earthway Spreader and is made of metal instead of plastic.  It will last for years and is worth the investment.
