    Invassive brush

    By Scott on 06/18/2017

Using this as basal spray on acres of tough invasive autumn olive brush. At 10% (13 oz) with gallon of diesel it works well on this, up to 4" trunk dia. On the really large, old bushes with thick bark I recommend "hack and squirt" cutting a wedge in the trunk with a boys axe and squirting into the cut. On brush up to 3-4 ft., mixing w/ water and MSO and foliar spraying also effective for small brush.

    Black Locust

    By Rich on 07/17/2017

Same result as Scott - Basal bark spray with 10% solution of this product and diesel fuel I was able to spray about 80 black locust saplings up to 5" in diameter with the 1/2 gallon jug. Sprayed on Memorial Day weekend and when I went back to check on July 4th weekend I had a 100% kill. I'll be using this method from now on to kill black locust. If you try cutting/pulling black locust out before they are dead it only seems to agitate them and make the problem worse.

Q
What is the mixing rate of Hi-Yield Range and Pasture Triclopyr 4 to control broadleaf weeds in a bermuda pasture?
A

Per the product labelHi-Yield Range and Pasture Triclopyr 4 may injure certain turfgrass species. Do not apply to bahiagrass, bentgrass, bermudagrass, centipedegrass, St. Augustine grass, or zoysiagrass, unless turf injury can be tolerated.  It can actually be used to suppress bermuda and would not be recommended on it.

AmTide MSM 60 DF Herbicide might be a better option for you.  Please refer to the product label for weeds controled and rates.

Q
Which herbicide do you recommend to control Brazilian pepper trees?

Hi Yield, Crossbow or Martin's Clear Pasture or another product. Thank you

A

Control of Brazilian Pepper Tree can be tricky, and which herbicide is best will depend on the time of year and method that you are using. Something like RoundUp QuikPro (glyphosate and diquat) will likely only work on seedlings, and may take several weeks to kill the young plants:

Crossbow Specialty Herbicide can be used for basal bark treatments in general, however the product label does not specifically list Brazilian pepper tree as a plant that it controls.

This article from your Florida State Extension offers the most detailed recommendations for treating this invasive plant:

They recommend using Triclopyr Ester for basal bark treatments, which we carry in Hi-Yield Turflon Ester Ultra or Garlon 4 Herbicide in a pasture. Usually direct stump treatments offer the fastest control, however this is best done when the trees are not fruiting since seeds may be scattered and start new plants.
