a house was sprayed inside with malathion several years ago and has sat vacant since.

Since this is labeled to be used on edibles in a garden the residual of the product is not that long. If the house has sat vacant for several years there would be nothing left behind at this point. You could wash the area/areas with soap and water for your own peace of mind if need be since that is all that is needed when eating things out of a garden once this product is used on them.
