Safety Products

Please be sure to read the product label of any insecticide you choose to use to get information on the personal protective safety gear you will need. In most situations, it is recommended that you wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes with socks, chemical resistant gloves, and goggles. In areas where ventilation is poor, a manufacturer may recommend you wear a mask or a respirator. We have put together two different safety kits that will make selecting the correct safety gear easier for you.

Getting Rid of Starlings

By DoMyOwn staff

Why Starling Control?

Starlings are generally a beautiful and enjoyable part of our environment. The purpose of starling control is not to destroy starlings, but simply to prevent them from nesting or roosting in or on venues of business. Once they have found a favorite nesting or roosting place they will continue to return in droves. A large number of starlings, if not properly controlled, will soon result in a large amount of droppings. Not only are droppings messy and unsightly, but they can cause slippery walking conditions, and may also transmit potentially fatal diseases. It is also very expensive to clean up the mess that starlings leave behind.

How do I begin a Starling Control program?

There are 3 basic steps to any bird control program. To successfully get rid of

starlings, you should follow these steps:

  1. Evaluate the problem. Take note of as many details as you can, including flight patterns and time, entry and exit ways, feeding, nesting, and roosting habits. Try to determine why birds find your property attractive.

  2. Sanitation. Before installing or applying products for starling control, clean the area of all nests, garbage, droppings, and unsealed food. This helps to remove any incentives that starlings or other birds may have to stay on your property and creates a solid foundation for control.

  3. Choose appropriate starling repellent products and solutions.   There are many products to choose from for effective bird and starling control. Try to choose the most fitting solution for your specific problem, goals, and environment. Remember that a combination of methods is always more effective than using just one method alone.
