    Q
What hazards are there for persons entering an attic area after using InTice Bait?
I am a homeowner . I apparently have "white footed" ants in the attic that are coming down into the house . My pest control contractor want to use "Intice granular bait" to broadcast in the attic . My air handler for my AC unit is in the attic over the garage with also a platform to for storage . "Question: What hazards would there be for persons entering the attic area after application ? for how long ? What postings if any are required ? What precautions /actions should workman or persons take while or after working up in the attic? The platform where the air handler and storage area are , can they be accessed without concern ? Thanks for any info you can provide !
    A

Intice Fine Granular Bait contains the active ingedient Orthoboric Acid, a natural insecticide that works when the insect ingests it. Please take a few minutes and read the product label. It does seem as though your pest control operator is using the product according to the manufacturer's instructions. According to the product label "In attics, be sure to get bait near the eaves and vent pipes where insects often first enter, as well as around any pipes or potential access points between the attic and the main structure. Attics should have proper ventilation to insure that no food odor from the bait seeps into the living area, particularly in hot weather. If in doubt, apply the product in a manner such that itcan be easily removed." The label further states that applicators and people coming into contact with the product should wear Long-sleeved shirt and long pants: chemical resistant or waterproof gloves: and shoes plus socksand they should wash their hands before eating, drinking or using the toilet. For more information please call the manufacturer Rockwell Labs 866-788-4101.

    Q
Why was this product replaced with intice 10? Intice 10 is not labeled for use against carpenter ants.
Is there an alternative bait that works against carpenter ants?
    A

The bait matrix or the food based ingredients that attract the ants are different and may not be as attractive to that particular ant species.  The Intice 10 has a higher percentage of boric acid.  If you would like to know more you can contact the manufacturer directly here

We do carry the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait here.

    Q
Is the InTice Fine Granular Bait safe for pets? There is conflicting information saying safe for pets and then to use in areas inaccessible to pets and children, .
    A

The InTice Fine Granular Bait is practically non-toxic if ingested, though deliberate ingestion of quantities could cause digestive disturbance. For Outdoor applications as a perimeter band or around plants, bushes, shrubs, sprinkling on the ground would be acceptable. For indoor applications, it does recommend to apply bait only in areas inaccessible to children and pets, or in tamper-resistant bait stations to keep them out of the bait as this would be localized more in one area for indoor applications as opposed to sprinkled for outdoor applications. You can view the full MSDS Sheet HERE for toxicity information.
