Directions For Preparation And Use:

Weigh the kitten. Prepare enough Just Born milk replacer, with the enclosed measuring scoop, for use within a 24 hour period. Kittens should be fed at least 1/2 ounce of prepared liquid Just Born milk replacer for every 2 ounces of body weight, daily. Kittens should be allowed to consume as much formula as they want. The table at right gives minimum feeding amounts for a 24 hour period. Mix 1 tablespoon powder into 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon water. Use tap or bottled water. Stir until smooth. Pour liquid into an appropriate sized, clean nursing bottle or feeding syringe. Heat liquid by placing bottle or feeding syringe in a pan of tepid water. Test temperature on nyour wrist. It should feel slightly warm. Do not microwave. Store Just Born milk replacer in the refrigerator. Refrigerate unused reconstituted liquid up to 24 hours. After feeding, hold the kitten’s head on your shoulder and rub his back gently until he burps.

Orphaned kittens:

If possible, kittens should nurse from their mother for the first 2 days of their lives to receive nutrient rich colostrum. Mother’s colostrum provides temporary protection from numerous diseases and contains growth factors believed to stimulate protein synthesis, improve fat utilization, and promote cell growth. While mother’s milk is always preferable, Just Born milk replacer contains nutrient rich milk powder harvested at USDA inspected facilities. It is extremely important to weigh kittens frequently (every day) to ensure they are receiving adequate amounts of supplement. If a kitten loses weight after 48 hours, consult your veterinarian. Feed weak or small kittens every 4 hours; feed at 8 hour intervals if strong and active. Kittens’ needs will vary and the time and amount may have to be increased or decreased, depending on the breed, growth rate and activity of the kitten. Make water readily available after kittens are 2 weeks old. Orphan kittens must be kept warm for proper digestion to occur. Also, use a warm, moist washcloth and gently wipe the kitten’s bottom until it wets and has a bowel movement, several times daily, to imitate a mother’s care. This is required for young kitten survival.

Weaning kittens:

Healthy kittens may be weaned when they are about 25 days old or when they can lap formula from a bowl. At this age, blend a high quality dry kitten food with warm Just Born milk replacer formula prepared as directed to make a paste. Feed the mixture 3-4 times a day for the first week. Each week, increase the amount of dry food in the mixture so that after 6-7 weeks the kitten is fully on dry food.

Pregnant and lactating queens:

Mix 1 tablespoon of prepared Just Born milk replacer per 5 pounds of body weight into the pregnant queen’s daily ration. Continue until the kittens are weaned.

Supplementation:

If a supplement is desired for a growing kitten, show cat, large litter, geriatric or convalescing cat, simply mix 1 tablespoon of prepared Just Born milk replacer per 5 pounds of body weight into the cat’s daily ration of food. Just Born milk replacer is also available in a ready-to-use liquid.
