Application Timing

Apply to actively growing weeds. Extreme growing conditions such as drought or near freezing temperatures prior to, at, or following application may reduce weed control and increase the risk of crop injury at all stages of growth. Only weeds that have emerged at the time of application will be affected. Wet foliage at the time of application may decrease control. Applications of Lontrel Turf and Ornamental are rainfast within 2 hours after application.

Use of Adjuvants

Addition of surfactants, crop oils, or other adjuvants is not usually necessary when using this product. Adding a surfactant to the spray mixture may increase effectiveness on weeds but may reduce selectivity to the crop, particularly under conditions of plant stress. If an adjuvant is added to the spray solution, follow all manufacturer use guidelines.

Spray Coverage

Use sufficient spray volume to provide thorough coverage and a uniform spray pattern. For best results and to minimize spray drift, apply in a spray volume of 20 gallons or more per acre. As vegetative canopy and weed density increase, spray volume should be increased to obtain equivalent weed control. Use only nozzle types and spray equipment designed for herbicide application. To reduce spray drift, follow precautions under Avoiding Injury to Non-Target Plants.

Cool-Season Grasses:

Bentgrass (including Bentgrass Fairways), Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue (Chewing), Fescue (Creeping Red), Fescue (Sheeps), Tall Fescue, Ryegrass, (Perennial)

Warm-Season Grasses:

Bahiagrass, Bermudagrass (including bermudagrass fairways), Buffalograss, Centipedegrass, Fescue, Tall (growing in Warm-Season areas), Kikuyugrass, Seashore Paspalum, Zoysiagrass, and St. Augustinegrass

    Lontrel Turf and Ornamental Herbicide

    By Dennis on 12/09/2011

Atrazine is cheaper and works better. Treated 1/2 acre of St. Augustine with 1 oz. per 1,000 feet and got little to no dollarweed control after 10 days.

Q
How to get rid of Vetch in flower beds?

what should i use to get rid of crown vetch in my flower beds. It has deep long tendrel roots like carrots . Other than tearing up and starting over what should I use?? should I use ERASER?

A
You can use a round up type product like eraser as a spot treatment, but if you want to get rid of the Vetch selectively you can use Lontrel.  You can apply Lontrel over your flowers and it will only kill the grassy weeds, like vetch.

What can I use to kill Dichondra in a St Augustine/Bermuda lawn?

Will it also kill the grasses?

A

Southern Ag Atrazine Weed Killer for St. Augustine Grass would be a good option as it is labeled to control dichondra and it can safely be applied to St. Augustine turf.

Q
How much Lontrel do you use per gallon of water in hand held sprayer?
A
The first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Lontrel Herbicide is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You did not indicate what type of weeds you are treating or what type of turf the weeds are growing in. You can find the application rates per 1,000 sq ft located on pages 4-5 of the Lontrel product label. To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area. That is the amount you will want to mix the specified amount of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated.

Q
What is the best product(s) recommendations to completely eliminate thistle?

I am battling an invasion of thistle trying to take over the entire yard. I believe it is too late this year in Colorado for pre emergents as I see small thistle plants actively sprouting throughout the grass and rockbeds. The product needs to be safe for children and pets within a few hours after application.

A
You can use Lontrel to treat grassy weeds like Thistle. Lontrel is a pre-emergent that works great in treating thistle. Please read the product label to make sure you can apply this product your lawn.

Q
What is the best selective herbicide to kill thistle in VA

Thistle plants have invaded my front flower bed that contains mature azaleas. I have thistle plants growing up in the azaleas and they have spread like wildfire in the bed in front of the azaleas. I have pulled them out by hand; I have used a hoe: I have used a vinegar solution; I tried to smother them with landscaping fabric and mulch. Nothing has worked. Hope you have something for me. I certainly appreciate the product, Talstar that I bought from you for our invasion of stink bugs... the product was incredible!

A
You can use a round up type product like eraser as a spot treatment, but if you want to get rid of the thistle selectively you can use Lontrel.  You can apply Lontrel over your flowers, shrubs, etc and it will only kill the grassy weeds, like thistle.
