QHow much Lontrel do you use per gallon of water in hand held sprayer?
AThe first thing you need to know when using an herbicide such as Lontrel Herbicide is that the exact amount of water you dilute it with is not important. It is only important to make sure you are using the correct amount of product per 1,000 sq ft of lawn. Use too much and you risk damaging your lawn, use too little and you will not get adequate results. You did not indicate what type of weeds you are treating or what type of turf the weeds are growing in. You can find the application rates per 1,000 sq ft located on pages 4-5 of the Lontrel product label. To decide how much water you want to use, you should mark a 1,000 sq ft area, fill your sprayer with water ONLY, and start walking and spraying just as if you were doing the actual application of herbicide. When you are done walking and spraying the 1,000 sq ft area note how much water it took you to spray that area. That is the amount you will want to mix the specified amount of product with for each 1,000 sq ft area that needs to be treated.

QWhat is the best selective herbicide to kill thistle in VA
Thistle plants have invaded my front flower bed that contains mature azaleas. I have thistle plants growing up in the azaleas and they have spread like wildfire in the bed in front of the azaleas. I have pulled them out by hand; I have used a hoe: I have used a vinegar solution; I tried to smother them with landscaping fabric and mulch. Nothing has worked. Hope you have something for me. I certainly appreciate the product, Talstar that I bought from you for our invasion of stink bugs... the product was incredible!
AYou can use a round up type product like eraser as a spot treatment, but if you want to get rid of the thistle selectively you can use Lontrel. You can apply Lontrel over your flowers, shrubs, etc and it will only kill the grassy weeds, like thistle.
