Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait

Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait Granular is for the control of imported fire ants. Fire ant mounds can go as deep as 15 feet below the surface, and have numerous queens. Drenching the mound with an insecticide in most cases will not be sufficient to eradicate the colony. Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait is meant for the worker ants to carry the product back to the colony and feed it to the other ants. Its delayed-action kill ensures that the fire ant bait is spread throughout the colony before it takes effect, eliminating the infestation.

USE INSTRUCTIONS:

Broadcast Treatment: Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait can applied in a broadcast treatment to turfgrass to control existing active imported fire ant populations. We recommend using an Earthway spreader for broadcasting the bait uniformly over lawn areas. The bait should be applied when fire ants are actively looking for food, typically in the morning or evening. Do not apply the bait immediately after irrigation or rain. Fire ants will begin to die from a proper treatment within 14 days. Do not reapply for 3-6 weeks. Do not exceed 4 applications per year.

Mound Treatment: Shake the granules uniformly around the mound, but do not disturb the mound. Broadcast the granules in a circle about 4 to 5 feet in diameter with the mound being in the center of the circle. Apply when ants are actively looking for food, typically in the morning or evening. Do not apply the bait immediately after irrigation or rain. Fire ants will begin to die from a proper treatment within 14 days. Do not reapply for 3-6 weeks. Do not exceed 4 applications per year.

5 of 5 stars  A secret about using Maxforce!
By Sterling in Avon Park, FL on 11/18/2011
    Verified Purchase

Ants are smart! The secret to using Maxforce is to NEVER touch the bait with your hands. We used to scoop out a handful & spread generously until a certified pest control man told us to lightly sprinkle the bait & never touch it with human hands. Voila! Total success! Human touch on the bait turns ants away. Also, if used too generously ants 'know' it's not 'found food' but poison! Don't laugh; its what the pest control man said! So we did as he said & have NO FIRE ANTS! Lasts longer too. One word of caution: remember that your neighbors & friends that don't use Maxforce the correct way probably still have ants. I keep forgetting that & tend to get bitten when I go visiting because I've gotten so used to never worrying about fire ants anymore at our home. Great product from an honest company with commendable fast service.

I had several mounds before ordering this product, so I applied it right away. I have not seen a fire ant since. I also have a very small dog, and he was not affected the bait.  So it is pet safe as the product states

5 of 5 stars  MAXFORCE FIRE ANT BAIT
By Henry in S/E Texas on 07/23/2011

I recently purchased and tried Maxforce Fire ant Controlled. I followed the directions on the container, and I have no more ants . I located and treated the beds in the yard. P.S. I don't know if it matters, but I waited to apply until a dry spell. It set for 5 days without rain. I would reccommend this product to remove fire ants.

1 of 5 stars  Tougher and smarter than normal ants
By Stalemate in Dallas, TX on 06/17/2011

I guess my ants are tough smart hombres. I used this around some mounds and even noticed some (very few) ants pick the bait up. A short while later the ants were moving their nest. My guess is that they test this stuff in the lab with the ants in a glass case and no other source of food and no escape routes. In general I have to say that my experience with fire ant baits is that the ants move but you do not kill off the queen. My best luck has been with Deltamethrin which does not kill the nest but makes life uncomfortable by killing any unlucky enough to walk in it and they move. It also acts as a killer/barrier for most insects.

I was told by a local pest control guy that this is really good fire ant control. After some recent heavy rains, ant mounds were popping up everywhere. I'd used Maxforce Fire Ant Bait before and it worked great then and now.

By Elaine in California on 07/07/2015

The ants grab this Bari and take it down into their nest within an hour usually. The entire colony is gone within a week. It does take time, but then the entire colony is gone. I got some for my mother. In the 2 pound jug, but now that has been discontinued. Please bring this back in the 2 pound jug. You don't even have it in the 10 pound bag, but since you recommend that it be used within six months, the smaller 2 pound jug is much more convenient. I love this product. We have other ants that also take this bait and it kills their colony as well. It is not just for fire ants. Bring it back!!!!

Thank you for your response! We understand that it is frustrating when a convenient size of a product is discontinued. There are other fire ant baits available in smaller quantities. One very popular choice is Advion Fire Ant Bait: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/advion-fire-ant-bait-p-364.html.

1 of 5 stars  My Incorrect Diagnosis
By George in Punta Gorda, Florida on 08/22/2014

Thought I had Crazy Ants. Ordered Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait with Fipronel which would have been effective. Infestation was out of control quickly so I called exterminator. He said I had White-Footed ants which do not carry control agents back to nests which results in colony extermination. Make sure what you're treating for is what you have!

By Tom in edisto island, sc on 04/16/2013

Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait is worthless in eradicating fire ant mounds. Having used Amdro to effectively control fire ants in my low country South Carolina lawn for years, I changed to Maxforce and the fire ants seem to love it. The mounds only seem to get larger, despite repeated applications, over the past month.

QIs the Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait safe to use around dogs?

AThe Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait is a safe product to use around pets when applied correctly.  Of course, you want to keep the container with all of the product in it out of reach of children and pets as you would any other pest control or cleaning product.  This product is meant to be applied in small quantities by either broadcasting it in your yard or placing a small amount around existing ant mounds.  This quantity is not enough for a pet to get sick, it is only enough to effect small ants.  Many professional pest control companies use this product often on their pest control accounts with children and pets.

QI think I have fire ants, but I am not sure. Will Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait work on other ants?
Maxforce Hydramethylnon fire ant killer has worked well in the past. It has been discontinued and this is its replacement. Does the new product have the same spectrum of activity against various ants?

AMaxforce FC Fire Ant Bait is only labeled for the red imported fire ant. While other ants may take the bait, this product was either not tested for them or the success rate was not high enough for the manufacturer to include them on the label. We do have a product called Maxforce Complete Granular Bait that is labeled for most ants including fire ants and it contains hydramethylnon which has worked well for you in the past.

QHow does Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait compare to Top Choice?

A

Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait and Top Choice both contain the same active ingredient. Top Choice fire ant bait is applied by licensed pest operators only. Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait can be applied by homeowners outside in the lawn for fire ant control. I have included our article on Fire Ant Control below for more information.

QWhen will the 2 pound jug of Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait be back in stock?
I bought this in a 2 lb. jug and love it. The ants take I underground and the colony dies in about a week. Now you don't have eithe the two lb. or 10 lb. in stock. When will it come back? Is this a protein based or sugar based bait?

A

Unfortunately the 2 lb jug of Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait has been discontinued by the manufacturer and we are not sure if they will make the 2 lb jugs in the future. We do carry the 10 lb bags of Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait. If you are not interested in a 10 lb bag please consider the Maxforce Complete Granular BaitMaxforce Complete Granular Bait contains a unique formula with a mixture of proteins, simple sugars, fats and complex carbohydrates in a food-based granular structure that is irresistable to insects. The great combo of food-based ingredients accomodates the chaning food preferences of ant colonies and other insects, delivering superior bait acceptance and control throughout the year.

If you have anymore questions about treating for fire ants please look over our guide on How to Get Rid of & Kill Fire Ants.

QDoes Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait work on tawny ants?
I have two acres and want to control them in my yard.

A

Unfortnately, Maxforce FC Fire Ant Bait is not labeled for tawny ants. We would recommended Invict Blitz Any Granules instead which is labeled for tawny ants.
