    How many Bags of Milky Spore Spreader mix is needed for one acre?
    How much granular milky spore do I need for a one acre parcel? Is it safe to use by grass on the edge of a lake?

    Each 20 lb bag of Milky Spore Spreader Mix will cover 7000 square feet. An acre has 43,560 sq ft so you will need 7 bags. You can safely apply Milky Spore to grassy areas near bodies of water.

    I need a grub control product that would not harm my outdoor cats. I cannot keep them off of the area.
    Need to kill grubs & have outdoor cats that it would be hard to keep off the treated area.

    Milky Spore would be the best product for you to use if you cannot keep your cats of of the treated areas. Milky Spore does not require you to remove animals as it is not a chemical poison. Milky Spore contains Milky Spore disease bacterium (Bacillus popillae) that kills grubs in a way that is environmentally safe and highly recommended by professional and organic gardeners.

    we have existing grubs from last summer/fall. grubx did not work. many areas of brown dead or no grass.

    Can I use the Milky Spore Granules in one application then the powder the next application?

    The Milky Spore Spreader Mix should be applied at least 3 times a year for 2 years. The main difference is that in using the six part spreader mix program you are essentially spreading the spore over an entire lawn rather than in concentrated areas using the powder. In doing this the number of spores in any one location is significantly less than the concentrated spot method.
    Grubs become infected by swallowing a spore and this occurs by happenstance when feeding on grass roots. The more spores in a given area, the greater chance for infection. Each infected grub dies and releases 3 billion new spores into the soil.

    Would it be better to wait until Spring for the first application?
    Just purchased this product and was told by a store clerk that I could apply it for the first time in the Fall.

    Milky Spore should be applied three times a year for two consecutive years in a row. The best time should be in the spring (May), summer (July) and fall (September). It would be too late in the year to apply this product now. We would recommend waiting until the Spring to apply.

    Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix  does not affect pets, beneficial insects, fish, bees, birds, other animals, plants, or man. It is not a poison.

     Milky Spore Spreader Mix is too light to be used with a broadcast spreader. It must be placed in concentrated areas on the lawn and that is why it must be used with a drop spreader over every square foot of grass.  It requires six applications usually Spring and Fall for two years to build the number of spores in any one area to millions of spores.

    Can I mix the milky spore along with lime and spread it that way?

    It is not recommened to mix granules in your spreader and apply both products at the same time as this process may cause an uneven application which could lead to undesirable results. We recommend performing 2 separate applications.

    Can you apply too much milky spore? Can I switch to powder for next application?
    1) I just discovered I should not have used a broadcast spreader to apply the Milky Spore mix. I put about 2 1/3 bags on 10,000 square feet--This was my first application. 2) Can I switch to powder next application?

    Per St. Gabriel the manufacturer, you can never put too much down. You can switch to the Milky Spore Powder. you want to apply 1 tsp every 4 feet.

    Are Natural Guard products pet and child safe?
    I need a product that is for grub control. I need something completely pet safe and child safe. What product do you recommend? Is the Natural Guard grub control product safe? Why are there warnings on the label? Thanks

    Every pesticide has some level of toxicity, even the natural and organic products. Natural Guard is a "lower risk" product meaning that while there is some amount of toxicity it is very low. Every pesticide, natural or synthetic will have some warnings on the product label as there will be some level of toxicity and safety precautions will need to made.  As long as you follow the product label instructions and keep your children and pets out of the area while the application is being made and until the area is dry you should not have any issues.  As for using a Natural Guard product for grub control, that may not be possible as none of them are labeled for grubs. We do carry Milky Spore which is labeled for grubs and is one of the "lower risk" products. We should have Milky Spore back in stock shortly.

    The 20lb bag of Milky Spore Lawn Spreader mix will cover 7000 square feet. You should apply Milky Spore grub control granules with a drop spreader in the Spring, Summer, and Fall for 2 years to create the long term residual.

    Are Milky Spores affected by weed killer?
    I used weed and feed a week or two before applying the milky spores. Just wanted to be sure there is not adverse affect that might kill the spores from the weed control.

    No  Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix is not affected by pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. They may be applied at the same time.

    It is raining lightly. Can I put Milky Spore down now and let rain soak it in the grass?

    Milky Spore can be applied and should be lightly watered in. However, if the rain picks up and a heavy rain occurs it may wash away newly applied Spore dust necessitating retreatment.

    Can I put Grub X down now and follow-up with Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix in May?
    I have a terrible mole/vole/grub problem. Nematode application this past spring did little. Want to try your product next spring (already had a freeze here). Can I try putting down grub x now, follow through with your product Memorial Day, then July 4 and Labor Day? Also how do I put your product in my extensive perennial beds (can't use a spreader there!)? Thanks

    If you have already had a frost, then it is very unlikely there are still any grubs actively feeding close enough to the surface to be killed by curative insecticides. You should apply Milky Spore Lawn Spreader Mix in the Spring, Summer, and Fall for 2 consecutive years for best results. If there are areas where it is difficult to apply with a spreader, then you can wear gloves and use your hands to disperse the product. Be sure to remove any groundcover such as pine straw, wood chips, etc. so that the spores will actually get into the soil. Be sure to read the FAQs on the product page and the product info sheet for more information.

    Can I apply Milky Spore on Soil with no grass
    I just cleared out my backyard and have no grass. Can I apply Milky spore on top of soil with no grass. I have lots of moles who are feeding on grubs and other underground insects and want to use Milky Spore to eliminate them.

    Milky Spore can be applied to areas with no grass but please be aware that this is a long term project and will take years to fully protect the area.   Also Milky Spore will only harm Japanese Beetle Grubs and will have no effort on any other insects.
