  • Asked by Mike from Denham Springs, La
    08/09/2014
    Q
Can this product be applied directly over shrubs in existing flower beds?
I would like to treat my well established flower beds with this product. The directions only discuss treating soil prior to planting and not established beds. To treat the entire area, is the product sprayed directly on existing plants and surrounding areas?
    A
Yes, Vegetable and Ornamental Weeder can be used on vegetable gardens, trees, shrubs, flowers, roses, rock gardens and groundcovers. It is a pre-emergent so this will not kill the weeds that are already there. This is normally used during  the fall when it is cooler outdoors to prevent the emergence of weeds in the spring.

    Q
Can I use Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder on planted onion sets and onion plants after planting?
    A

Unfortunately Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder is not labeled to be used on or around onions.  You will need to wait at least 4 months before planting onions after this product has been applied to a given area.  If weeds are already an issue around edibles not listed on the label, we would recommend a glyphosate based product like RoundUp QuikPro to spot treat any weeds.

    Q
My vegetables are growing already. Can I still use Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder to kill weed?
    A

Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder will not kill existing weeds as it is a pre-emergent herbicide that helps to control grasses and broadleaf weeds prior to germination.  Avenger Weed Killer or RoundUp would be products that you could use for weeds actively growing.  You would want to be sure to not apply it to any of the vegetables as it will kill anything that is sprayed with it.

  • Asked by Micky from Lebanon, Tennessee
    04/23/2018
    Q
Should I till my garden before or after applying Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder?
Usually I till my garden real good before I plant. I would like to try this product this year but I am not sure when to apply it. Before tilling and then wait how long until tilling? Or after tilling and than wait how long until planting. Also, how long do i have to wait before i plant my cucumber seeds, squash, zucchini, etc?
    A

It's better to till the soil before you make an application of Monterey Vegetable & Ornamental Weeder, that way you don't disturb the treated area afterwards causing inconsistent control. There's no wait time after tilling to make the application but you will need to wait at least 4 months before planting seeds after the treatment.
